(trail details below!) 📍 Hats off to this 2 year old who just hiked up one thousand feet on the Royal Arch Trail 🤙 This post is all yours. I couldn't be more impressed. Show them how to do it & they'll do it even better. I put him in my pack at the end when it got icy!🧡 You're my perfect crunchy grom. Royal Arch Trail - 3.3 miles & 1,400 ft. It's all elevation gain so be prepared for a heavy workout. 💪 Pretty steady & even incline on the Bluebell Road Trail from Chautauqua. Once you get to the Royal Arch Trail it gets to be a rockier incline. Pretty good rocky step-ups the entire way up the switchbacks. Once you get up the river running down the rocks everything is slush & ice right now (bring micro spikes). Most of the ice is in the shaded areas that the sun doesn't get to. Should be melting in a few weeks. After the waterfall climb up you're almost to the end & that's where you'll find incredible views & the arch! It's a busier trail especially on weekends so not the best if you'd like some of solitude. It's a fun one. The springs for spring as a solo parent trip! 🌊❄️🧡 we hiked Garden of the Gods & went to Cheyenne Mountain resort. I highly recommend this getaway! We hiked Palmer, Buckskin, Niobrara, and Bretag trail loop! An easy 4.1 mile loop that starts out on paved trails through the main section and then makes its way around the outskirts of the park! The boys stopped a lot to climb on the rocks & we all enjoyed climbing & the views. We stayed at the park for many many hours! Lots of hikers & horses. Be ready for mud & sunshine without shade! Such a good hike to see many parts of the park. We swam, hiked, ate & played - I'd say it was a good time with my buds! ✨ * Gotta love the nose pick on the 4th photo. The joy of watching children grow are these moments! 🧡 Shep's been in the carrier for hundreds of miles & he's watched every experience with joy. Devils Backbone Nature Trail - Loveland, CO.📍45 mins north of Boulder. We felt like getting out of our bubble today to explore more. ☺️ This one was fun! I took the longer few loops after Wild Loop & it was 4.5 miles w/ around 600ft elevation gain. If you'd like to just see the keyhole you can take the Keyhole via the Wild Loop Trail. This trail is an excellent easy flat kiddo trail. 2.4 miles & 250 elevation gain. If you'd like to continue on from there - the extended route goes on & on through the open space. I plan to come back for a longer trek in the future! Be aware that this trail has no trees at all! It also gets very busy on the weekends! My oldest first hard hike/climb today! Pretty good for a San Diego native. This 9 year old is a naturally strong hiker. 💛 So crazy proud of him for going up 1,500 ft to the first & second flatiron in Boulder. One day they're a baby & the next they're showing you their confidence! He has absolutely no fear & is powered by his awesome personality that works hard & has a great attitude. I couldn't be happier to have this hiking partner! 🧡 The first & second flatiron hike is around 2.8 miles, 1,500 feet & a hard hike. Scrambling is required to get over the last part & a bit hard to get back down as well. Most of the trail has snow so bring microspikes even if it's just slushy in some areas. The last bit of the hike has a lot of ice & some exposure. Enjoy the ride! Goshawk Ridge and Fowler Loop 💎 a complete gem near Boulder & Eldorado Canyon. Underrated, beautiful, & easy parking at the trailhead. There are loads of trail lengths and difficulties to choose from. And ya really can’t go wrong! I’ve solo hiked every trail here and always feel safe (safety is relative, please always listen to your gut). Here are some trail options: 🪨 Fowler trail: 4 miles. Easy & family friendly 🪨: Rattlesnake Gulch: 3 miles. Moderate elevation gain with amazing views 🪨: Eldorado Canyon Trail: 6.5 miles. Moderate/hard but usually very peaceful with vast views. Please look up trail conditions and length before heading out. Microspikes are a good idea in winter. And the snakes are out in summer so be aware! We had fun hiking in it. ❄️ The way it sparkles in the sun is magical & the air is so crisp & perfect. ✨ ✨ Trail Deets - Green Mountain West Ridge Trail 📍 3.8 miles, 680 elevation gain Microspikes are nice but not needed right now Gorgeous moderate hike up to Green Mountain from the west. Keep in mind most of the elevation gain is at the very end for a good leg workout up rocks. It's going to be in the 50's/60's this week 🤤 plenty of time for another hike or two! The Loch via Glacier Gulch 📍 RMNP. Park at the Glacier Gulch parking lot - moderate 5.6 miles, around 1k elevation, out & back. The snow is packed down right now! This trail is a good workout & the views are incredible! Each turn is even more beautiful. I wanted to make it to Sky Pond but my phone was low on power (I didn't get many photos) & a frigid windy cold front came in & I didn't want to freeze Shep! Be ready for changing weather & cold cold wind - bring lots of layers. Shanahan ridge trail 📍 Boulder. HOW have I not hiked this one yet - it's absolutely gorgeous. Moderate 4.5 mile loop w/ around 800ft elevation gain surrounded by lush beautiful trees & views. The fresh snow, quiet forest & a happy little guy completely made my day happy & peaceful. A lot of trails merge up with this one & if you have more energy & time you can head up Bear Peak or connect to NCAR. This is now on my top hikes list in boulder. 🏔️❄️🤍 Get out there. A lovely day for a cow hike. 🐄 These cuties walked w/ us for quite a ways. 😊 Sheppy loved them! Flatiron Vista trail is around 4 miles & around 300 elevation gain. A perfect flat hike for a more relaxed hiking day or for the kids! & It's a loop! I've been waiting to do this one until the winter since half of it is super open to the sun. You would bake pretty well in the summer. About 2 miles of no shade. A really good winter hike though! I wore crampons for some icy parts but could probably get away w/ out them - I'm just extra cautious carrying my kiddo! Suns shining & everything is drying out.
