On episode 31 of Really Weird Stuff: A Twin Peaks Podcast, we’re diving headlong into the 1992 cinematic prequel, “Fire Walk With Me”, written by Robert Engels and David Lynch, and directed by David Lynch. It was released to theaters August 28th, 1992 and flopped HARD. It had premiered at Cannes earlier that year, to the bafflement of audiences and most critics. A handful of European critics were pioneers of understanding the film for the masterpiece it is. Sheryl Lee and Ray Wise give everything they have to tell the story of Laura’s final days. We also learn a little about Teresa Banks and the agents who mysteriously disappeared whilst investigating cases with the top secret designation: Blue Rose. We did a tremendous amount of prep for this episode, including studying the lore of the Lodge Entities, providing foot notes from The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer, and doing our best to understand The Coop Loop. Predictably, the discussion gets fairly heavy at times. TRIGGER WARNINGS: for discussing Sexual Assault, Drug Abuse, and Incest. But we also manage to have a little fun mining the moments of levity, heaping love onto some favorite characters (including Bobby and Carl), and reminiscing about when we first got to know Laura Palmer. As Amy overheard from some teenage girls in the bathroom of the Westfield New Jersey Mall Cinema in 1992, “there are some movies you just have to be an adult to understand”. Been a good week for sharply-dressed troubadours. Have been a #chrisisaak fan since seeing him on The Word in the UK in early 1991 (alongside #reevesandmortimer Quite the combo!) Next day got the last two tickets to see him at the #townandcountry club (filmed by the BBC). Brilliant show, and he's definitely still got it 30+ years later. Last night, support act our own #melparsons was great too and is doing a gig at #qtheatre in June. And Saturday saw #delaneydavidson live for the first time. Now an instant fan.

I missed out on Chris Isaak’s “Beyond The Sun” when it was first released in 2011. The original 2LP pressing had 25 tracks. To celebrate its 10th anniversary, a 12-track pressing was released on RSD Black Friday in 2021, and included “I Hear You Knockin’”, which was not featured on the original album. This 2024 RSD saw the release of “The Complete Collection”, featuring 29 tracks. As is the case of the original pressing (but not the 2021 pressing) the lacquers were cut by Chris Bellman, and the album sounds fantastic. Most importantly, this is a truly fun spin. It’s clear that Chris has a real love for these classic songs. Zu dem trüb, kalten Aprilwetter lege ich mich mal diese wunderbare Compilation von Chris Isaak auf. Zum ersten Mal entdeckt habe ich deine Musik wohl wie so viele durch den Soundtrack von David Lynch's Wild at Heart. Aber der Song Wicked Game ist nur die Spitze des Eisbergs, Isaak hat eine ganz tolle Stimme und vermitteln damit und auch mit seiner Attitüde den Vibe der späten 50er Jahre. Eine tolle Mischung aus Blues Rock, etwas Rockabilly und eingängigen Pop Melodien.
