🍋🍋 Life hasn’t been kind to us over the past 10 months, which is why we’ve not been travelling much lately. Stress, loss, grief, and medical mysteries have collectively conspired to ensure that this last year has been the worst of our lives. We’ve felt uprooted in so many ways but while we aren’t quite sure what the future holds, we’re determined to take back control. 🤒 Since last summer, I’ve been battling a debilitating chronic neurological condition. It came completely out of the blue and still hasn’t been given a label. It totally sucks but I just need to learn to live with it and accept that life is perhaps going to be a bit different from now on. 🏔 They say nature is a great healer, and climbing not 1 but 4 peaks in the Lakes this week has felt like a bit of a game changer. There have been times in the last year when I thought I’d never walk up a hill again, let alone travel, which has frankly been terrifying to contemplate. But summiting those fells has been a huge breath of fresh air and given me the confidence to book some flights for May! I won’t say where we’re going, because until we’re on that plane, nothing is certain. We’ve had to cancel so many amazing adventures this past year (including Nicaragua, Costa Rica and the Azores) that there’s a lot riding on this next trip. 🤞🤞 ✈️ So yeah, travel is most certainly back on our agenda, and we’re excited to see where it takes us, both around the UK and abroad. Our trips are probably going to look a little different from before, with less frantic zooming around ticking off ALL the sights, and more meaningful experiences, with ‘slower travel’ being our focus. Which is no bad thing – it’s been a long time since we were in our energetic 20s and I think it’s okay for travel styles to change as we get older. It's at this point Hubbie breathes a huge sigh of relief. R A V E N C R A G • A short, but steep Wainwright Fell. 2 mile walk with a view down Thirlmere reservoir that makes it worth the effort. • Start the route just off the A591 on the west road to Thirlmere, there is a free lay-by parking for about 4 cars. • Through a gate on the right-hand side, with Thirlmere on your left, then the route is quite easy to follow up through the forest. Look out for the steep footpath to your left towards the top of the track as it’s not signposted. • Then you reach a gate at the top, turn left and make the final ascent up the wooden steps to the viewpoint at the top of the crag. • It is a continuous incline all the way up and can be steep in parts. A day breathing in sea air does wonders for the soul 💆‍♀️☀️🌊💫 … I used to come here in my childhood and I forgot how beautiful it is to wander along this quiet stretch of the beach overlooking the Cumbrian mountains! 🏔️ 📍 Sandscale Haws Nature Reserve/Roanhead Beach - a @nationaltrust site just on the outskirts of the Lake District in Cumbria. 🐾 Very dog friendly! Off leads but keep under close control as there are some wildlife ponds. 🚗 Free parking if you’re a NT member (otherwise a couple of quid for a few hours), a little wooden hut telling you all about the wildlife in the area and toilet facilities.
