But when you decide to move away from a regular pay cheque and start your own business, cutting down your outgoings is key. ๐ท . . . I've had to be really prudent with my spending, and I no longer have a car after driving for 20 years... although that hasn't been too tough because of course, we ain't going nowhere(!) - for now. Necessary sacrifices have been made but I see them as short term tactics in order to achieve my long term goals. The sacrifices haven't been in vain and I'm over the moon to have secured a couple of clients, partnerships and am also working on a number of other exciting things in the pipeline. ๐คฉ . . . I've been genuinely shocked at the opportunities that have come my way. ๐ณ . . I was worried when COVID-19 hit and still am if truth be told because more turmoil may be around the corner with the uncertainty surrounding the economy. . . . โฐ I got a little reminder today..... This time last year I was at the biggest tech event in Central Africa - @tegcampus in Equatorial Guinea.๐ฉ๐พโ๐ป Organised by telecoms company @gitge_guinea_ecuatorial TegCampusโ mission is to gather fans of computer science, innovation, science, creativity, entrepreneurship and digital leisure. With a particular focus on young people, it opens the technological spectrum outside the usual as it includes a training objective and talent discovery. I was part of a โWomen in Techโ panel with some amazing talent and I also ran a social media workshop for young people during this week long event. Equatorial Guineaโs relationship with tech has historically been a bit rocky with affordability being an issue as well as intermittent blackouts. Initiatives like @tegcampus help to push the tech agenda forward and sponsors GITGE have been at the helm of huge progress that has been made this past year including: - Introduction of free wifi in public schools - Refurbished and donated computer labs in schools - Improved connectivity - Plans for an innovation hub to foster STEM projects All steps in the right direction to making technology more accessible for the young people of the country FUN FACT: Equatorial Guinea is the only Spanish speaking country on the continent โ I (tried) and spoke in both Spanish and English on the panel๐ฌ๐ง๐ช๐ธ FUN FACT No 2: My flight was delayed and I landed just an hour before I was due on stage๐๐พโโ๏ธ

Itโs officialโฆ. Iโve finally done itโฆ I've hit โlockdown fatigueโ Iโve really tried to put the right things in place to get me through this. Iโveย thrown myself into work โ learning, networking, planning and collaborating to build my business Iโve been getting my 1 hour exercise in on most days I've stayed away from watching too much news Iโve donated to a couple of charities Iโve supported aย couple of small businesses โ (facemask courtesy of @gitasportal) I worked with some friends and submitted a funding bid for a COVID-19 tech idea I even had a great Zoom party to celebrate my birthday last week But despite all of this, I still feel a bitย โmehโ. It seems that Iโm not alone, data storytelling experts @chartrdaily reported that fatigue has well and truly arrived. Traffic to the Wikipedia 'c word' page has fallen by 70%. Google searches on the pandemic have also fallen. Despite this we are still consumingย news of some sort at a rampant rate โ the problem is, all news is still pandemic focused so there is no getting away from it. I realise that this is a bit of a moan. I am grateful to be alive and well โ but Iโm not pretending that this is plain sailing โ Iย really am up and down.
