I totally get it... I've asked this question too. 🫣 You may be in a hard season, but your children will be okay. You may not feel like you're making progress. But I'm here to tell you that you can do this! Let me tell you my secret. 🤫 Writing a mission statement completely revitalized my homeschooling. I want to help you craft your own mission statement and experience the clarity it brings. I'd love to connect with you via DM. Encouragement is just a message away. ❤️ #mynameismama #educationmatters #6monthsold #10monthsold #boymomproblems #autismkids #nonverbalautism #t21 #nothingdownaboutit #childdevelopment #consciousparenting #18monthsold #12monthsold #babytalk #smartkid #smartkids #autismspectrum #specialeducation #specialneedsparenting #remotelearning #autismadvocate #abilitynotdisability #nonverbal #sensoryprocessingdisorder #childhooddevelopment #parentgoals #mommyneedsabreak #medicallycomplex

A common question I’m asked is: How do I improve my child’s focus? When I ask follow up questions, parents tell me that when doing certain assignments or a specific subject, their unique homeschoolers become easily distracted and struggle to focus. I know it doesn’t seem like it, but the lack of focus is a form of resistance. Think about all of the things your child likes to do that they will focus on for extended periods of time. If your child doesn’t want to focus or concentrate on an assignment or activity, it’s because your homeschooler feels it isn’t right for them. You can either modify it or change it altogether. Trying to get your child to focus on something that they aren’t able to do isn’t going to improve their ability to focus. ❤️ Providing your child with engaging and meaningful learning experiences is a wonderful way to give your homeschooler opportunities to focus and improve their concentration skills. What does this mean and how are you supposed to do this? No one expects you to figure it out on your own. And you don’t have to. 💖💖 I’ve created the MLC Group Coaching Program so you can have the support, community, and framework you need to feel empowered as you navigate the homeschooling challenges that come your way. 💖 Send me a DM or schedule a consultation and let's chat about what you’re experiencing and if the group coaching program is a good fit for you. This is a candid moment I captured in 2017, as she was playing outside in the breeze. Some of the best pictures of her have been snapped outside in nature. Being outside calms her body, mind, and spirit. She is looking straight through my soul in this picture. She was born with the most mesmerizing eyes. Big, deep, brown eyes. When she looks at me, it's as if she has the answers to the world's most complex questions, yet she doesn't have any words to tell them to me. When she connects with you on this level, it is an extraordinary experience because no words are actually spoken. You get caught in her gaze, and you can feel her emotions just as strongly as if she were screaming them out to you. I wish for just one day I could hear her thoughts about life. What would she tell me if she had the words? For now, her thoughts are a mystery. Yet she speaks volumes with those dark, alluring eyes. #fcvblogsquad #autism #autismfamily #asdmom #autismparents #autismacceptance #autismawareness #autismmom #autismlove #sensoryprocessingdisorder #sensoryprocessing #sensory #sensoryfriendly #sensorylearning #specialneeds #specialneedsmom #specialneedsfamily #specialneedsparenting

🌟 Morning Realities: Finding Joy in the Simple Moments 🌟 Our unicorn started his day singing like a cute little bird in his bed, after a solid night of sleep. One of the most heartwarming moments on the planet is opening the door to his room and finding him sitting in bed, engaged in a full “conversation” with his teddies, followed by the sweetest hug for us. But let’s paint a different picture: Jules is 6 and non-verbal. So, when he wakes up, it’s still with cries, reminiscent of a toddler, to call us. Our morning routine involves carrying him out of bed, changing diapers, dressing him, and carrying him downstairs—tasks long mastered by kids his age. Breakfast is usually a sweet moment. Today, Jules showered me with kisses and cuddles while happily munching on his peanut butter toast and sipping milk. Yet, meal times, or any food-related activities, have long been a struggle. Even as things got easier, I couldn’t help but focus on what we didn’t have—what we were “supposed” to have with a “regular” child. I’m convinced we can savor these happy moments even more. We also take our time to soak it all in, even if it means showing up 5 minutes late at school! Our morning routines with Jules are usually filled with love, smiles, laughter, and kisses. And pride—for all the battles we’ve fought to get here. 👉 #ParentingJourney #SpecialNeedsParenting #MorningMagic #FindingJoy #LoveWithoutWords #SpecialMoments #CherishingEveryMoment #Gratitude #raredisease #specialkids #specialneeds #parentingdisability #parentingdisabledkids #parentingdisabledchildren #neurodivergent #specialneedsfamily #disabledkids #medicalparents #youhooverfong #youhooverfongsyndrome #youhooverfonglooksgreatonthiskid

This month we've been sharing about our amazing team 🙌🏽✨️ Let us introduce you to the one and only Desiree.... Desiree is a proud mother of two amazing children. She found her passion for advocacy while facing struggles with her own child. Finally finding the appropriate setting and services for her son and then watching him thrive was a life changing moment for her. That's when everything clicked and she decided to take a new path in life. She attended the special education law and advocacy series and became certified through the University of San Diego school of law. After being certified in special education advocacy, she began working with parents to help achieve an appropriate IEP. Desiree works hard and feels success from assisting other parents through a journey that seems so lonely. Her bubbly personality, loving soul and knowledge of parents' rights is what brings a valuable asset to the Sanford Autism Advocacy Group. In her free time, Desiree enjoys cooking, baking, and literally long walks at the beach ⛱️ 😍

Today is National Honesty Day! 🫶🏼 As caregivers, advocates, and champions for our loved ones with special needs, complex medical conditions, rare diseases, and chronic illnesses, honesty is at the heart of everything we do. Let’s take a moment to celebrate the power of truthfulness in our journey: 1. **Transparent Communication:** Honesty forms the foundation of effective communication with healthcare providers, educators, and support networks. It enables us to convey our loved one’s needs accurately and advocate for the best possible care. 2. **Authentic Connections:** Being honest about the challenges we face fosters genuine connections within our communities. Sharing our experiences openly helps others feel less alone and strengthens our collective support network. 3. **Advocacy and Empowerment:** Honesty empowers us to speak up for the rights and needs of our loved ones. Whether it’s navigating complex medical systems or fighting for inclusive education, honesty fuels our advocacy efforts and drives positive change. 4. **Self-Care and Resilience:** Embracing honesty allows us to acknowledge our own limitations and prioritize self-care. It’s okay to ask for help and take time for ourselves amidst the demands of caregiving. On this National Honesty Day, let’s continue to champion truthfulness, transparency, and authenticity in our caregiving journey. Together, we’re making a difference one honest conversation at a time. 🫶🏼 #NationalHonestyDay #CaregiverCommunity #AdvocacyMatters #RareDiseaseAwareness #specialneedsparenting #medicalmom #ChronicIllnessSupport #patientadvocate #patientadvocacy

𝐀𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐬® 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬? Even though the Tomatis® Method is effective in many circumstances, there are certain conditions that may facilitate or impede the improvement that it produces. Thus, depending upon the nature of the problem, youth may be a facilitating factor; this is particularly the case when the problem is situated at the language level or the psychomotor level, or when it relates to scholastic performance. On the other hand, in the case of older individuals (adolescents and adults), personal motivation can often help overcome the difficulty associated with longstanding problems. In fact, there is no real age limit with respect to improvements that may be attained by using the Tomatis® Method; experience shows that, in the vast majority of cases, good results can be achieved by individuals of all ages, whether children, adolescents, adults or the elderly. #Tomatis #TomatisAU #TomatisAustralia #TomatisMethod #homebasedprogram #australia #sydney #children #mentalhealth #childdevelopment #voicetraining #musictraining #braindevelopment #parenting #momlife #pediatrictherapy #pediatricoccupationaltherapy #occupationaltherapy #occupationaltherapist #preschoolot #homeschoolmom #teachersofinstagram #specialneedsfamily #specialneedsparenting #freeconsultation

Kids can be so cruel. Leaving Dovecote was a huge thing for Cam, hes been very upset and felt rejected and unwanted. Today when he was picking Tey up someone from his old class went upto him and said we are all glad you left. So glad I took on the fight to get him a place in a setting suitable for him. But it breaks my heart to know that for years he was labled and mis treated by his peers, parents and staff. And to know this goes on for so many other children is just awful. #acceptanceisthekey #stopbullies #specialneedsparenting

When Olivia’s parents noticed her struggle to read people’s faces and interpret their gestures, they initially thought she was shy. 🫣 She often seemed lost in group activities at school, missing cues that her peers responded to effortlessly. ❓ Concerned, Olivia’s parents consulted her teacher, who suggested that these could be signs of Nonverbal Learning Disorder (NVLD). Nonverbal Learning Disorder (NVLD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by significant difficulties recognizing and processing nonverbal cues and challenges in visual-spatial reasoning. Ian's delicious and healthy #keto breakfast today. Today marks 14 weeks of his new #lifestyleoverhaul and he is down 37lbs but, more importantly, his color is better, his stamina for walking is better (no more clammy sweat halfway through the grocery stores), and his digestive and nocturnal health seem to be doing better. We are so proud of him for how he has readily adapted to the changes. When we go to Costco, he doesn't even slow down when walking past the croissants and pastries. Our guy heads straight for the produce, specialty meats and cheeses, and tuna. He also looks SO forward to his @target @questnutrition shopping trips. Seeing his enthusiasm over something that is helping his health is such a wonderful experience as a parent. 💙 It is also super helpful to have so many others cheering him on. I always read the comments to him. 💙 . . . #specialneedsparenting #dualdiagnosis #autism #schizophrenia #specialneedsketo #specialneedsadults #specialneedsweightloss #specialneedshealth #asd #lifestyle #love #patience #weightloss #healthjourney #ketofood

If you're a special needs mama I don't want to miss being able to tell you this: We can be so hard on ourselves as mothers. There's always someone else who seems to be doing more, doing better, and with more patience to give. Regardless of how you feel you're doing as a mom right now, I bet it's better than you think. Does she know she has been fighting her entire life? She fought to get nourishment and to breathe. She continues to fight for comfort, fight for words, and fight for peace within her own body and mind. Does she know she was born into a world that wasn’t built for her? Does she know I will move heaven and earth to find the right tools to give her so she can walk through this world as safely and peacefully as she can? Does she know that it’s okay to not be okay sometimes? Does she know how deeply she has been loved by so many in her life? Loved by certain teachers, paras, and therapists that went above and beyond to create goals for success and strategies to work through some of her hardest days and moments Love by grandparents that have learned and do as much as they can to help her feel comfortable at home. Loved by siblings fiercely and unconditionally. They stepped up to teach, advocate for, care for, and protect her at all costs. Loved by parents that would give up everything to make sure she has what she needs on a daily basis. Parents that will care for her the rest of their days. Parents that will try to have the best possible plan in place for her once they are no longer able to care for her. Parents that are so proud of the warrior she is because she works hard every single day on things others don’t even have to think about. Does she know I will continue to stand right beside her in this fight? I will advocate as hard as I can. I will advocate for her to be seen, advocate for her to be heard, advocate for assistance, advocate for her health, advocate for her dignity, and advocate for her safety. Does she know? Have I done enough? Have I done too much? Does she feel safe? Does she feel loved? Does she know she has been fighting her entire life? #fcvblogsquad #autism #autismfamily #asdmom #autismparents #autismacceptance #autismawareness #autismmom #autismlove #sensoryprocessingdisorder #sensoryprocessing #sensory #sensoryfriendly #sensorylearning #specialneeds #specialneedsmom #specialneedsfamily #specialneedsparenting #specialeducation #specialeducationclassroom

I wish I could post and share all of the milestones David accomplishes. I simply don’t have time to do it. I’ve deprioritized the pressure that social media exerts to share it all. But there is so much goodness I wish people knew about our community of individuals with intellectual & developmental disabilities. And—that would require (for me) also sharing the entire journey—the hard and grievous parts. It’s not a congruent part of my being to share only the curated and beautiful though that’s so worthy and wonderful. I have experienced enough hardship and struggle to know there’s always another side of the story—to everything. And I believe there are many people, perhaps most people, that experience the same. Hard precipitates happiness for many of us. That not-so-easy process does invite an appreciation for the otherwise ordinary. And likewise, a value and respect for the struggle and empathy for those who persist and carry on despite not having an audience or fan base or followers. (I see you.) For today, I want to share my pride and my joy from last week. Saturday night was prom. It was also Unified Special Olympics sectionals—he and his partner qualified for State. For later, the many stones which have paved the way to allow us both to get to and through these places and experiences. I’ve come to understand that happy and hard are not mutually exclusive and by accepting that have able to be more present in all of the moments. I hope you are finding joy in the hard places, too. 🪴 #downsyndrome #specialneeds #idd #specialneedsmom #specialneedsparenting #inclusion #intellectualdisabilities
