Kate Bush photos for 'The Dreaming,' 1982🌙🤎⛓🌿 'The Dreaming' is Kate Bush's fourth album. When it first came out the critics were much less kind than they were compared to her first three albums and infact she jokingly referred to it as her 'she's gone mad' album. Whereas other people, mainly her listeners, new listeners and other musicians see it as an incredible innovative, different album. This was Kate's first album that she produced entirely on her own and the sound is so incredible. She experimented with different production techniques and synthesizers and took inspiration from loads of different bands and artists at the time such as Public Image Ltd., Killing Joke, Planxty, Siouxie and the Banchees, Peter Gabriel and The Cheiftans (some of whom she has worked with or her engineers have). Not only is the sound brilliant with different vibes, so is the song messages ranging from feeling frustrated with the search for knowledge, Harry Houdini, The Shining, The Vietnam War, funding God or spiritual experiences, robbery, Aborigines of Australia and more. She uses sound with flutes, folk, traditional Australian instruments and Irish instruments, synths, vocal loops and many, many more making it sound so different to the other albums. Though it was ranked a lot less than her other albums at the time, the videos for 'The Dreaming,' 'Sat In Your Lap' and 'Suspended In Gaffa' was recieved well. The people on this album include Paddy and John Carder Bush, Del Palmer, Stuart Elliot, Danny Thompson, Alan Murphy, Rolf Harris, Liam O'Flynn, Dónal Lunny, David Gilmour and Percy Edwards. The most known tracks from this album are 'Sat In Your Lap,' 'There Goes a Tenner,' 'Suspended In Gaffa,' 'The Dreaming' and 'Night of the Swallow.' This is one of the best albums by Kate in my opinion, because of the creative freedom in both sound and topics. The feeling and intensity going through this album is so otherworldly and it's always a large pleasure to listen too. 'The Dreaming,' 1982 🌿🗡☁️

I'm delighted to have my portrait "An Ceoltóir, portrait of Donal Lunny" in @eskerartscentre Offaly Artists Show. Patrick T Murphy, Director of the Royal Hibernian Academy, the curator of the show will officially open the exhibition on Saturday 4th November in Esker Arts Centre at 4pm. Donal Lunny is one of the most influential people on the Irish traditional music scene. He has been a member of many groundbreaking Irish groups, Planxty, The Bothy Band and Moving Hearts. He has written scores for a number of films. He is also a sought after producer and musical director. I asked Donal if I could paint his portrait, not only to celebrate his talent and love of Irish music but also because he is from Tullamore, like myself! I met Donal in Dublin. We chatted over coffee. “Welcome here kind stranger” - Paul Brady Mulligan Music (1978) Paul Brady has been a fixture on the Irish music scene for well over 50 years now. A singer and guitarist of no small ability, his interpretations of traditional ballads and tunes have, in many cases, become the definitive versions of those songs. Dylan himself based his 1992 recording of the Irish ballad “Arthur McBride” wholly on Brady’s version, recorded for the peerless 1976 album “Andy Irvine & Paul Brady”. This album feels like a companion piece to its predecessor and also features Irvine on several tracks. It would be Brady’s solo debut and his last hurrah as a folk artist before broadening his horizons, pursuing a lengthy and successful career as a singer songwriter that continues to this day. I picked up this original copy today in Dublin’s @freebirdrecords and it’s in immaculate condition for a 45 year old record. A real find. It’s also a nigh on flawless recording, featuring beautifully crafted and heartfelt versions of songs like “The Lakes of Pontchartrain” and “Paddy’s Green Shamrock Shore”. Produced by Donal Lunny (Planxty and The Bothy Band) the album is a fine example of what for me is Irish folk’s Golden Era. In fact, it pretty much bookends that glorious ten year run that began with the emergence of Sweeney’s Men in 1968. Irish trad and folk is once again experiencing something of a golden age right now with the likes of @yevagabonds @lisaoneillmusic and @lankumdublin really hitting their stride, picking up the baton from those that went before them and running with it. All are doing something interesting with the form and proving that tradition, in the right hands, can continue to speak to a modern audience. ヴァンさんの1985年作。 わりとマイナーな作品。 なぜ、枯葉の中から？という疑問がまず浮かびます。 そして、わりと見落とされがちな点として、実はヴァンさん、ビミョーに笑ってます（写真2枚めのアップ参照）。 1968年のデビュー作「アルトラル・ウィークス」から2023時点の最新作「ムーヴィング・オン・スキッフル」まで、オモテジャケットで笑ってるのは、この作品だけです。 貴重ですね。 サウンドも、なんか1曲めから、カラッと明るめ。 音づくりも、エコー深めの…なんというか、わりとダサ明るいカンジ。 前スタジオ・アルバム「時の流れに（1983年）」発売前に引退情報が流れ、日本盤では帯に「偉大なる20年の音楽活動に終止符を打つ問題作」と銘打たれたのは、前々ポストにて触れたとおり。 そして、前ポストのライヴ「グランド・オペラ・ハウス」発売時にも、まだ引退と思われており、日本盤の帯には「最後の作品と噂されるアルバムは、故郷のベルファーストで収録した意味深いライブ！」とうたわれてたようです。 これ、ハッシュタグから辿った津田沼のミュージックバーT’s Lounge @tslounge.music さんの過去ポストで確認できました😃 勝手にメンションしてすみません！ よい盤、お持ちですね！ そんな中、何事もなかったように発売されたこの新作。 ヴァンさんは、「そんなこと、言ってないずら〜」とトボケてたそうですが、レコード会社は2作続けて、引退！引退！と連呼してしまったので、正式にお詫びしたそうです😅（写真3枚め、レコードコレクターズ1991年3月号から転載）。 ま、そんなカンジで発売されたこの作品。 あまり特筆すべきことがないからか、ウィキペディアも、レコードコレクターズも、伝記本もだいたい似たようなコメント。 ・宗教色が薄れた ・新進気鋭のアイリッシュバンド、ムーヴィング・ハーツ（ドーナル・ラニーがいたバンド）が2曲で参加（曲名に*がついてる曲） ・W.Bイエーツの詩にメロディをつけた曲が収録されていたが、財団からクレームがつき、急遽差し替えたため、発売が遅れた（差替え前のこの曲が収められたテスト盤が超レア化） 以上。 みたいなカンジです。 重度ヴァン信奉者向け。 適した時間帯：秋の午後〜夕方 聴くシチュエーション：軽めのヴァンさんを味わいたい時 ヴィンテージ：1985年 甘口/辛口：無味 ボディ：ライトボディ 人気度：★☆☆☆☆ 1点 総合評価：★☆☆☆☆ 1点 A Sense of Wonder is the fifteenth studio album by Van Morrison released in 1985. On 6 March 1972, Planxty played their first gig under that name, at ‘The Mugs Gig’ in Slattery's Bar (@slatterysbar) on Capel Street. They had previously played there under the name CLAD, which derived from the first initial of all four band members ('C' for Christy Moore, 'L' for Liam Óg O'Flynn, 'A' for Andy Irvine and 'D' for Dónal Lunny). The mugs gig was a weekly club held at Slattery’s (initially downstairs, later upstairs), started by Andy Irvine and Dónal Lunny, which had Ronnie Drew as its first guest. Planxty went on to have a weekly residency here, as did Mellow Candle. The Traditional Club ran here weekly for twenty years, which was where Christy Moore first heard Seamus Ennis play, Moore later recalling that “His mastery of the Uileann Pipes was spellbinding.” Slattery’s also had weekly blues sessions, a very rare occurrence for Dublin of the 1960’s. Phil Lynott and Gary Moore regularly joined these sessions. Lynott also performed at spoken word gigs here, as well as playing with his pre Thin Lizzy band ‘Orphanage’. Paul Brady, Tommy Peoples, Mary Black, and Ed Deane are just some of the other Irish musicians that have performed at Slattery’s over the years. Slattery’s has been a licensed premises since 1821. The pub has a full menu and an early license, which Anthony Bourdain availed of when he spent St Patrick’s Day in Dublin for ‘The Layover’.
