⁣ ⁣ The famous “Pizote (Coati)” as it is known in Guatemala (Nasua narica being its scientific name). An animal that we have probably all seen if we have visited the Mayan jungle. They are social animals that are normally in groups. I really liked the first photo because I managed to capture it inside the jungle plants, the other two photos... I hate them. Because they show us how in the deepest part of the jungle the human impact is always present. A group of coatis feeding on human waste, which can lead to disease problems, accustom them, affect other species...⁣ ⁣ #guatemala #wildlife #nature #coatu #contamination #photjournalism #human #iucn #tropical #canon #naturephotography #natgeolatam #wildtropics #viral #everydayextinction #momentonatgeo #EarthOfficial #BBCearth #wildlife #canonphotography #animal #nature #earthcapture @bbcearth #yourshotphotographer #keepitwild #instagood #picoftheday

As a nation made up of over 17,000 islands, Indonesia is clearly a nation that relies heavily on the seas and the life within them. During my time visiting Jakarta in 2013, I photographed in the port area to the north of the city and discovered many marine species being processed after being brought ashore by local fishing boats. This included collections of shark fins. According to Mongabay, "Indonesia is home to more than a quarter of the world’s 400 known shark species; a fifth of all shark species are endangered....Most of the sharks and rays caught in Indonesian waters are shipped to Surabaya, Indonesia’s second-largest city and a gateway to export markets including China, the United States, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore and South Korea." 📸 Learn more about my work on environmental issues by visiting the links in my bio. #asia #indonesia #jakarta #sealevelrise #flooding #pollution #naturaldisaster #climate #climatechange #climatecrisis #photography #photojournalism #photoessay #photojournalist #extinction #everydayextinction #shark #sharks #biodiversity #sharkfin #sharkfinning #sharkfinsoup

Les dejo algunas ranas que he visto por el mundo para que aprecien formas, colores, tamaños…💚🐸⁣ ⁣ Today is World Frog Day. Without a doubt, one of the organisms that I most like to see and take photos. This day is to promote the conservation of this important group of organisms. In image 1, Shao Jian Feng, 26, holds a Yangtze Alligator (Alligator sinensis) in his home on the outskirts of Beijing. Listed by the Chinese government as a "first-class protected animal" in 1972, this species is all but extinct in the wild and is listed as "critically endangered" by the IUCN Red List. In 2017, I covered the story of Exotic Pet Trade in China and decided to use environmental portraits as part of the story. I felt this approach worked for the story, as I wanted to show the normality of the surroundings with the presence of these exotic animals. "Some of this trade is legal", according to National Geographic, "but many times animals are captured from the wild illegally to supply demand for exotic pets. The illicit sales of live animals comprises a major part of the overall illegal wildlife trade, a multibillion-dollar global black market." Upon completion, the photo-essay was featured online by both the Guardian and National Geographic. To learn more about how to make environmental portraits like this, click the link in my bio to watch my latest YouTube video on the subject. Image 2 - Liu Zhaobei, 25, lies in his bedroom with an alligator snapping turtle (Macrochelys temminckii ). Listed by the IUCN as 'vulnerable' in the wild. Image 3 - Lu Tingting, 32, owns and runs a pet store in central Beijing where she keeps her 3 month old pet raccoon (Procyon lotor), an animal that is native to North America. Image 4 - Du Ruofei, 4, stands with two newly purchased budgerigar (Melopsittacus undulatus) from Beijing's Shilihe pet market. A young boy squats next to the head of a fish that has washed onshore in Tuvalu, located in the south-west Pacific Ocean. According to Conservation International, "Increased demand for coastal fish species in the Pacific Islands fuels overfishing, which in turn threatens local food security, livelihoods and ecosystems. Climate change is compounding the problem by lowering harvests from coral reef fisheries. The warming ocean is also changing the distribution of tuna, threatening island economies." In image 3, fishing boats are spotted off the coast of Tuvalu where overfishing has become an increasing problem. Countries including Japan, China, the U.S., Indonesia and South Korea have been named as the main contributors to overfishing in the Pacific. #pacific #pacificocean #pacificocean #climate #climatecrisis #climatechange #climatechangeisreal #climatechangeawareness #tuvalu #tuvaluan #funafuti #fongafale #everydayclimatechange #cop #cop28 #cop27 #cop26 #fishing #overfishing #everydayextinction

Most commonly seen in morphs of yellow to orange, this light blue morph of the Splash-backed Poison Frog photographed by 📸@walterwandering is truly a sight to behold… Little gems of the Amazon Splash-backed poison frog (Adelphobates galactonotus) from the lowland forests of Pará. The species is widely distributed in the Eastern Amazon, south of the Amazon River, and it displays a highly variable coloration. Some rarer morphs have very restricted ranges and the status of their populations is unknown. They’re threatened by collection, habitat loss and flooding caused by dams. Encountering this frog was one of the highlights of our Brazilian Amazon expedition with @mexotico73 That blue morph is truly spectacular 💙 __________________________________ #wildlifephotography #nb_nature_brilliance #nature_of_our_world #wildlife_perfection #splendid_animals #macro_brilliance #macrogrammers #frogsofinstagram #amazonrainforest #amazonia #brazil #earthcapture #everydayextinction #adelphobates #galactonotus #adelphobatesgalactonotus #splashbackedpoisonfrog #poisonfrogs #savethefrogs

#herpetology #panamá #anfibios #espadaranaprosoblepon #espadarana #herpetologylove #fauna #frog #tropical #guatemala #herping #nikonphotography #nikod5600 #naturephotography #natgeolatam #ourplanetdaily #wildtropics #viral #everydayextinction #momentonatgeo #EarthOfficial #BBCearth #wildlife #animal #nature #macrophotography #earthcapture #herpingtheglobe #yourshotphotographer #instagood

. . . During the past month, I had the opportunity to visit the Wisirare Biopark in  Casanare, Colombia and tour the Palmarito reserve with @audubonamericas fondoaccion and @fundacionpalmarito. The plains caiman or Orinoco caiman (Crocodylus intermedius) is a critically endangered species of extinction, since in the first half of the last century it was the victim of an intense period of hunting with the intention of selling its skin at high prices in the United States, Europe and Japan. This considerably decimated its population. In the Wisirare Biopark these caimans are bred in order to reintegrate them into nature and increase the numbers of this species again. #everydaylatinamerica #everydayeverywhere #everydayextinction #everydayeverywhere #conservation #colombia #caimandelorinoco #natgeoyourshot
