As you approach the final stretch of your pregnancy, it’s not uncommon to experience surges that seem to lead nowhere. This is known as prodromal labour. It can persist for days or even weeks, leading to feelings of frustration & confusion. Unlike Braxton Hicks contractions, which are irregular & less intense, prodromal labour involves consistent but irregular contractions. True labour will become apparent as your surges gradually intensify & come closer together, persisting regardless of changes in position or activity. Here’s how to recognise if you’re experiencing prodromal labour: 🌸 You’re in the third trimester: Prodromal labour typically occurs toward the end of pregnancy. 🌸 You’re experiencing intense & uncomfortable contractions: While these contractions may be regular, they don’t follow a consistent pattern & may start & stop. 🌸 You’re not experiencing other signs of ‘true labour’, such as the loss of your mucus plug, soft stool, or nausea, along with regular contractions that become more intense & closer together. If you’ve gone through prodromal labour, how did you cope, & what strategies helped you get through it? Braxton Hicks? False labour? Prodromal labour? Whatever label is given... Each niggle, each surge, each sensation is serving a purpose. There's nothing "false" about uterus tightenings. Whilst your body may not be dilating, there are so many other important steps leading up to active labour to ensure your baby and body are ready. ⭐Your cervix needs to move, soften and thin out. This can take weeks of prep-work, or happen in the moment. ⭐Baby may be rotating, or shifting their head into a better alignment, for more effective contractions once active labour begins. ⭐Toning the muscles of your uterus. Consider these like your warm up before the gym. ⭐Giving you mental preparation and the chance to practice breathing through contractions. ⭐You may even be dilating the first few centimeters (this can happen days or weeks before labour begins, but is not necessary.) Every sensation is real. Every sensation matters. Every sensation serves a purpose. 🥰 #falselabour #braxtonhicks #prodromallabour #labour #contractions #practicelabour #stopstartlabour #birtheducation #doula #birthed

Bump tight, but not labor time? It could be Braxton Hicks! ❓❓Ever feel your bump clench up out of nowhere? Those, mamas, are your uterus doing practice runs for the big day! They're called Braxton Hicks contractions, like mini squats for your baby's future home. ❓What's the deal? They're totally normal and usually feel like period cramps or a tightening sensation. They're short (30-60 seconds) and come and go, unlike labor contractions which get stronger and closer together. ⏱️ 🤰They can help position your baby and soften your cervix for delivery. Braxton Hicks vs. Labor: Not sure if it's Braxton Hicks or the real deal? Here's the trick: 🔴 Braxton Hicks: - Erratic timing (come and go) - Stop with movement/rest - Don't increase in intensity 🔴 Labor: - Regular timing (closer together) - Don't stop with movement/rest - Increase in intensity Remember: If you're unsure, always consult your doctor! ‍⚕️ So next time you feel those practice squeezes, remember: they're your amazing body getting ready for motherhood! My most recent client experienced constant prodromal labour for approximately 14 hours. She had strong contractions that lasted a minute every five minutes, and she had to breathe or vocalize through every single one. ⏱️ I went to support her and her partner at around two hours in because the pattern and intensity seemed like it was moving toward active labour. At this point we tried to focus on rest as much as possible, even though this meant being woken up by intense contractions every five minutes. 🛏️ At about 10 hours in we tried to get more proactive. We had an in-home adjustment from @themamachiro , connected with other doulas for any positioning tips we hadn’t thought of yet, and tried to rest/hydrate as much as possible. 🥤 Although we can never know, my best guess would be that her labour began to evolve from prodromal labour into more of a true “early” labour around the 14 hour mark. We all celebrated, but exhaustion was overwhelming at this point and the thought of what was yet to come had my client beginning to question how she would find the strength to continue. 🪞 Story to be continued in my next post! ✨ #prodromallabor #prodromallabour #falselabor #falselabour #earlylabour #earlylabor #homebirth #unmedicatedbirth #physiologicalbirth #birth #labour #labor #childbirth #childbirtheducation #doulasupport #birthpartner #strongasamother #birthprep #informedbirth #birthteam #longlabor

What are Braxton Hicks? 🤔⁣ ⁣ 💙 Basically, it's when your uterus gently tightens for 30-60 seconds (but can be as long as 2 minutes!)⁣ 💙 Often described more as uncomfortable than painful⁣ 💙 Most mamas describe them as a hardening or tightening of their belly ⁣ 💙 Can happen from the top down or across your stomach⁣ 💙 Think of them as your body's way of helping prepare your uterus for labor without actually being in labor ⁣ 💙 Many believe that BHs (especially the ones that occur in the third trimester) can help encourage your cervix to soften, so they aren't a waste after all!⁣ ⁣ What can I do to alleviate BH's?⁣ 💜 Stay hydrated: Your uterus contracts much more when you are dehydrated 💜 Keep your bladder empty: I'm sure you are already peeing wayyy more than you would like but an empty bladder can help alleviate BHs⁣ 💜 Change positions: Increased activity can cause your uterus to contract more⁣ 💜 Try lying down and resting for a little bit⁣ 💜 Hot bath or warm compresses on your back: Heat can help relax your muscles and alleviate discomfort⁣ ⁣ Not helping? Starting to become more painful? It never hurts to contact your provider to check in!!⁣ . . . . . #braxtonhicks #braxtonhickscontractions #falselabour #brisbanebirths #pregnancy #birthpartner #healingbirth #birthstories #positivebirth #hypnobirthing #birthplan #birtheducation #birthtrauma #birth #labour #birthrights #positivebirthmovement #caesareanbirth #homebirth #pregnantlife #birthtips #miracleoflife #stretchandsweep #inductionoflabour #childbirth #birthpreparation #birthpartners #hypnobirthingbrisbane #naturalbirth #naturalpregnancy

🤰 Braxton Hicks or false labour are sporadic uterine contractions. They can start around 6 weeks into pregnancy but usually are not felt until the second or third trimester. They are irregular and do not increase like real contractions. Staying hydrated and resting often makes them ease. While usually painless, some women may feel cramping or tightening. The good news is that Braxton Hicks are perfectly normal and help prepare your body for the real deal! If you ever feel unsure about whether it’s Braxton Hicks or true labour, don’t hesitate to call your midwife. Timing the contractions and changing positions can also help determine if it’s the real thing. ❓️ What's been your reaction to those first flutters of tightening? Breaking all the rules… 🤦🏻‍♀️ Snacks, toys and Cebeebies in bed with PJs still on. This is what survival looks like 😅 The last few weeks of pregnancy have been the most challenging yet. ‘Prodromal Labour’ has been kicking my ass (yes I had to google it too).. it’s basically false labour. And it’s not fun. It’s been pretty relentless as well, so lots of sleepless nights and the pain is just getting worse by the day… yet labour hasn’t progressed 😖 without sounding too melodramatic, it’s torture. Add into the mix a very energetic toddler (who’s nursery has closed today 🫠), reduced movements and extra hospital appointments for monitoring and scans (we’re all okay btw).. oh and the final few weeks of work on top, it’s fair to say it’s been a tough slog recently. So all of this has got me thinking.. is VBAC really the best decision? Or should I just book in for an ELCS at 39w to make life easier. I think this is the best option given the current circumstances. But it feels like such a dilemma… like I’m giving up on VBAC. Any mummas out there with any survival tips for prodromal labour? Or positive VBAC / ELCS stories? Please share away 🙏🏼 #VBAC #ELCS #37weekspregnant #fullterm #pregnancy #pregnant #prodromallabor #falselabour #falselaborsucks

They say, no two births are the same. This is what I'm living. Almost as if by muscle memory, my body went into false labour, an experience I didn't even know was possible. The contractions began to crescendo, my cervix dilated, and then after four hours, it all stopped. Stopped to nothing. Nada. I woke up the next morning as if it had never happened, and yet I felt like I had been purged of all my energy. It's now been four days of recovery, both for my body and my mind. What trickery was that? I was ready to meet her. We were all ready... except that she wasn't. And now we wait. Every morning I ask, will this be the day? But the surge has passed and instead, I'm left in limbo. It's messing with me, challenging me, contorting me. How much longer do I need to stay in this underworld of confusion and shadows? I am reminded that every birth brings its own lessons. I just never expected lessons like this: I am not in control and I never was.

Clinical uses of “CAULOPHYLLUM” in Labour Pains The main idea of this remedy is atonic uterus - a very weak uterus. ✅ineffectual labor ✅false labor ✅premature labor ✅threatened miscarriage The symptoms during labor are fairly common: 👇👇👇👇👇 A full feeling, bearing down with a rigid os (the cervix will not dilate), severe labor pains accompanied by severe exhaustion. A woman may go into very heavy labor for four to six hours and it is ineffectual, then she gets exhausted and the labor becomes weak. This is a strong indication for Caulophyllum. ✅Menstrual cramps, and the keynote with the menstrual cramps is severe fatigue and exhaustion - that's Caulophyllum. #caulophyllum #homeopathicremedieswork #homeopathicmedicines #homeopathictherapeutics #labourpains #falselabour #miscarriages #threatenedmiscarriage #menstrualcrampsrelief #laborpains #fatigueinlabour #homoeopathyby_driqra🩺 #bhmsmedicos #easychildbirth #childbirthwithoutpain #vaginaldeliverywithouttears #painfullabour

Prodromal (false) labour is real labour… and here is what I mean by that. The body is so wise. The body doesn’t expel energy when it doesn’t need to. The body has a reason for every single thing that it does. When we tell a woman that they are experiencing “false labour”, it insinuates that something isn’t real… and it not only denies them of what their body is doing for them in that moment - it is wrong! Prodromal labour is signalling to the uterus to start preparing for bringing a baby earthbound. It is your baby speaking to your body and letting you know that their appearance is approaching🥹 (whether that be days or weeks - it’s up to them!) Prodromal labour is like the practice before a marathon… you do not simply attempt a marathon without training… well your body is doing the same exact thing. The body recognizes that birth is a marathon, so it preps through prodromal labour! So while prodromal labour doesn’t create any shifts in the cervix necessarily, they are still very important for the body to experience and you are still experiencing REAL contractions. When prodromal labour begins, the biggest recommendation is to try to ignore it for as long as possible. Do things you love and keep yourself busy. I suggest making a list of 10 things for you to do in your early labour days, whether that’s go for a nice long walk, play board games, have a bath, whatever your heart desires. 🤍 #doula #canadiandoula #albertandoula #canmoredoula #banffdoula #lakelouisedoula #calgarydoula #prodromallabour #falselabour #thematronadoulatraining #pregnantwomen #pregnantmom #pregnancyprep #birth #birthprep #empoweredbirth #empoweredpregnancy #motherhood #mothers #women #labour #birthwork #birthwitness

Hiring a Doula is SUCH an important decision for your pregnancy, labor and postpartum journey. And it might just not be the right choice for you! As a Doula it is my job to give you the knowledge and resources YOU need to make informed decisions that is best for you and baby. It is then my job to advocate for you and prepare those around you to respect and accept the loving decisions you made. My goal is to create a warm and inviting space and experience that is a cherishable memory - wherever you feel most taken care of. If you are already a mom that has all the answers and a large support team, then you might not want a Doula and that is totally okay! But even some 4x moms love and look forward to the care and undivided attention that a Doula can bring to each experience. ‌ Let me know - are you thinking of a Doula for your next pregnancy or have you chosen one in your past? ✨ I would love to hear your stories!🤗 . . . #pregnancyjourney #doulasofinstagram #pregnancyisbeautiful #pregnancycare #pregnancysupport #falselabour #labourtips #childbirthwithoutfear #naturalchildbirth #doulasupport #doulaatlanta #atlantadoula #virtualdoula #theinformedbirth #childbirtheducation #childbirthed #childbirthprep #childbirtheducation #birthpreparation

BEVALVERHAAL. 🙅🏼‍♀️ Binnenkort deel 2! ❤️ #bevalverhaal #thuisbevalling #falselabour #badbevalling #weeën #uitgerekendedatum #mamaplaats

Braxton Hicks Contractions | common in late pregnancy and are called "practice" contractions or "false labour”. You may be ready for baby to arrive already, but these practice contractions are your body’s way of prepping for the very REAL labour that awaits you both. *It just doesn’t mean birth is around the corner* True labour contractions are going to come consistently, at regular intervals and increase in both frequency and intensity. They also aren’t going away as you change positions or activity. Braxton Hicks contractions on the other hand, show up without that same predictable schedule. They will not become more progressive, frequent or intense…and they usually stop if you change what you’re doing or the way you’re sitting/lying. Rest + Hydration can go a LONG way when it comes to Braxton Hicks contractions so give that a try if they start up and you’re trying to figure out what’s going on. As always, if you’re not sure or have any questions or concerns about your symptoms, that’s what your prenatal care provider and doula is there for so use them and ask them. Feeling confident and informed in your pregnancy is how you will go on to feel empowered in birth and postpartum! #braxtonhicks #practicecontractions #falselabour #labourprep #birthprep

🤍 Prodromal labour 🤍 I've never experienced it myself, but I can imagine it would be a real mind game! Have you had prodromal labour? Share your experience 👇 What is it? Sometimes known as prelabour or "false labour" (though I dislike that term), it is simply your body getting ready for labour and starting to get things going. Usually you will experience some tightenings towards the afternoon and evening, they can get quite painful and feel like early labour, they'll have you thinking "maybe this is it! Tonight could be the night!" and you might even call your doula to come over... But they will usually fizzle out during the night and start all over again the next afternoon. This can happen over and over, every day, for a few days in a row or even for weeks! It can be very exhausting, especially if it's happening at night and you can't sleep through the surges. Check in with your doula regularly, especially if you're starting to feel discouraged. BUT... Progress is always progress, and this is your body beginning to work to get your baby out. You're likely dilating very slowly, and your uterine muscles are practicing! Also, this is NORMAL. There is nothing wrong with your body doing this. Women who experience prodromal labour often have a faster true labour too, because their body has already done a lot of the work! #doula #birthsupport #birthdoula #sunshinecoast #holisticdoula #freebirth #naturalbirth #homebirth #birthphotography #hospitalbirth #prodromallabour #falselabour #midwife #obstetrician

And old wives tale that I’m sure every mama has encountered… “if you have some castor oil you’ll go into labour!!!” Totally untrue! All it will give you is a date with the toilet! Along with severe cramps, dehydration along with other side effects! If someone you know took castor oil and then went into labour, it’s safe to say she was ready to go anyway! There are no studies that show us the effectiveness of castor oil inducing labour - so PLEASE do yourself and your body a favour and PUT IT DOWN! 🤰🏻 #pregnancymyth #mythbusted #falselabour #fullterm #induction

Braxton Hicks contractions are often thought to be the start of labour, or a sign that labour is near. However, they are not linked to labour at all 🫣 Braxton Hicks contractions start during the second trimester, and happen over 30 times a day! They aren’t always felt, and don’t always feel the same from one contraction to the next. Some may feel very weak and short, others can stop you in your tracks and last several minutes 😳 You know it’s a BH contraction vs a real labour contraction through a few factors: 💥 BH occurs over your entire uterus, compared to true contractions that radiate up and down 💥 BH feels like a tightening and compressing, whereas true contractions are cramps 💥 BH lasts 30 seconds to 2 minutes, with no rhythm or pattern, true contractions start shorter and get longer over time, up to about a minute, and have an established pattern 💥 BH will stop if you move (if you’re walking, sit down; if you’re sitting, stand up etc), true contractions won’t change no matter what #doula #doulalife #doulasupport #doulawisdom #townsville #townsvilleuniversityhospital #braxtonhicks #braxtonhickscontractions #contractions #labour #truelabour #falselabour #practicelabour

Here’s ALL you need to know about “prodromal labour” - which is just the fancy term for start/stop surges that just won’t turn into “the real deal!” 🤣 Girl - I see you, I know just how frustrating it can be when labour doesn’t go full steam ahead from the very first twinge BUT… repeat after time… - this is normal - this is part of the process and it most definitely - IS NOT NOTHING!!! Prodromal labour is the precursor to early labour. Yay! Your body is doing beautifully! We know 2 things for sure: 1. Your baby will be born 2. The placenta will be born I encourage you to take your focus AWAY from time, days, and stop trying to fit birth into ‘a box’ with stages, and time restraints!!! THIS is more likely to tire yourself out mentally and physically while feeling like a watched pot. This is how I see it … you have 2 options in prodromal labour: 1. Stay at home and make yourself comfortable, take a bath, and go on with your day. 💛Trust 💛Patience 💛Surrender THESE 👆🏻👆🏻 are a must for physiological birth. 2. Go to the hospital for medical pain management - which increases the risks greatly, and especially in early labour. Ultimately YOU get to decide what’s best for you and your baby in that moment💛 Do you know about prodromal labour? Have you experienced it? ADDISON’S BIRTH STORY pt1 💗 Let’s catch up from the very beginning. 38+1 appt - stretch and sweep. 39+1 appt - stretch and sweep. 40+1 appt - stretch and sweep. At this appointment a date was also locked in to have my waters broken. We were given the options of Monday (23rd), Tuesday (24th) or Wednesday (25th) so I let Jamie make the call, and he went with the Monday. So there it was. At 41+1, or 40+8 I would be induced by the breaking of my waters. It’s not something I wanted, but something my OB was recommending. The braxton hicks had begun to show their face at 39 weeks. Inconsistent. Not painful. I really did think I would go early 😅 but no. 2 weeks of braxton hicks and questioning ‘is this it?’ or ‘am I overthinking it?’. The torture! Wednesday (40+3) came around and they were becoming quite consistent. Every 9-10 minutes for 2 hours, but they weren’t making me feel uncomfortable or stopping me from what I was doing. I didn’t think it was labour, but I was also scared of overlooking it and missing the queue to drive. 😂 We decided to make the 2 hour drive to the hospital to be checked, along the way they got closer and closer, being every 3-4 minutes by the time we got to the hospital. In the hospital I was hooked up to the ctg monitor and they could see the contractions on the screen, but again inconsistently. We were admitted for the possibility of waiting it out and staying the night, but 2 hours passed and all I wanted to do was go home. I felt uneasy being away from my own bed and the boys when I more than likely wasn’t going into active labour that night. I wanted to go home, so I did. We were both thinking that we would get home, 11.30pm and be knackered and have to turn around and go back 😂 but that didn’t happen. 2 more days passed. 2 more days of people asking if I’ve had any signs of things starting yet. Oh those days spent overdue seem to drag even more with the ‘friendly check ins’ that you get. Which now makes it Sunday. 41 weeks pregnant. Officially the most pregnant I’ve ever been. So much for going early this time. Tomorrow was my induction date. I was in a low mood, because I really did NOT want it. This is where it all just takes off…

The infamous “I think I’m going through labour” pains 😅 Braxton Hicks contractions are a normal part of pregnancy. They may be uncomfortable, but are rarely painful. Women describe them as mild menstrual cramps or tightening of a specific area of the abdomen that comes & goes. Braxton Hicks: 🧡 Irregular in duration & intensity 🧡Occur infrequently, non-rhythmic & unpredictable 🧡More uncomfortable than painful 🧡 Do not increase in frequency, duration or intensity 🧡Lessen then disappear to only reappear in the future Don’t worry should you feel Braxton Hicks, contact your midwife/doula/gynae to be safe. Time them. Relax & breathe. #braxtonhickscontractions #falselabour #bodyprep #pregnancy #labour #abdominalpain #labourprep #relax #breathe #midwife #doula

Prodromal labour can be killing. “Prodromal” comes from a Greek word meaning “precursor.” This is a great explanation for this type of labour since it typically comes hours, days, or weeks before active labour begins. Prodromal labour often starts and stops before fully active labour begins. It’s often called “false labour,” (or in dutch latente fase) but this feels anything but false and disregards what the mother is experiencing. The contractions are real, regular and painful but they come and go and labour may not progress. Prodromal labour contractions will often come and go at the same time each day or at regular intervals. Many mothers, even experienced ones, end up calling their birth team or going to the hospital, thinking labour has started. Typically each contraction will last just shy of one minute and often stay around the 5-10 minutes interval. These contractions are preparatory. They may help encourage the baby into a suitable birthing position, prepare the muscles, ligaments, and pelvis for active labour. They can be exhausting and are particularly tough when they do actually turn into labour and days of contractions have gone before. Alternating activity and rest is important. Support from a doula is invaluable and a nice relaxing massage can help with rest. - - #prodromallabor #latentefase #labourtime #falselabour #readyforbaby #birthprep #doulasupport #doula #birthteam #doulalove #massage #relax #doulamassage

*4 1 W E E K S P R E G N A N T* #TBT If you’re thinking I look tired then you’d be right…more exhausted than I thought possible. Not only physically from the 38 degree Madrid heat and carrying an enormous baby, but emotionally from night after night of false labour, insomnia and anxiety. If you’re currently going through pregnancy insomnia/are overdue/experiencing false labour, you have ALL my sympathy and I am sending you so much love and strength because it’s honestly psychological torture! And if someone says “just you wait til the baby gets here”…I mean WTF? 🤬 You can tell them that at least with a newborn, lack of sleep is expected, you have a clear purpose for being awake at 4am and you have the “prize” of staring at that gorgeous face whilst changing nappies in the darkness. I’d take newborn lack of sleep over pregnancy insomnia any day!! Just know that however little you’re sleeping that you WILL be strong enough to give birth and that although it feels like it you WON’T be pregnant forever! 👊🏼🤰🏼 #overdue #41weekspregnant #pregnantforever #3rdtrimesterproblems #pregnancyinsomnia #pregnancyanxiety #falselabour #summerpregnancy #youvegotthis

Before the onset of labour, you might experience false labour contractions, also called Braxton Hicks contractions. These infrequent uterine contractions are nothing to worry about and are perfectly normal. You might start feeling them in your second trimester, and they happen when the uterus tightens and relaxes. ❌ FALSE LABOUR👉🏼 EARLY LABOUR Let’s unpack the term false labour a bit. False labour is an outdated term used for start and stop contractions or waves of braxton hicks. It’s a term you won’t hear me use because not only is it discouraging but we know that the sensations you are feeling are not false. It means your body is working and preparing for the arrival of your baby. Nothing false about it. In fact it really is more like early labour. We often are led to believe that you aren’t in labour or that there is no cervical change until you are in labour. Or that cervical change only occurs with effective contractions. Here’s what we know👇🏼 🌿 The body can begin to prepare for the arrival of baby weeks before you even go into labour in various ways. 🌿 Early labour can take on many different patterns and sensations. It can start and stop, linger for days, be very sporadic, it can feel like cramping, aching or pressure, waves of tightening sensations or uncomfortable contractions. 🌿 Just because the tightening sensations do not hurt, doesn’t mean there isn’t cervical change happening. Labour doesn’t have to be painful for cervical change to occur. 🌿 The sensations you are feeling have purpose. Sometimes the cervix is moving into more of an anterior position, sometimes the body is trying to get baby into the most optimal position, sometimes baby’s head can be tilted funny in the pelvis and those contraction like sensations you are feeling that start and stop are trying to help rotate baby into a better position. Sometimes the cervix is softening or dilating. 🌿 It is possible to be dilated but not in labour. From my experience stop and start contractions for the most part cause some kind of cervical change. It’s not impossible to be walking around with an open cervix and not be in labour. It’s possible to be 2-3 cm dilated, 3-4cm, 5-6cm, even 8cm and not be in labour. I have seen it myself. The body is wild! 🌿Any preparation or sensations before you go into labour is not false labour. Do not be discouraged. Your body knows exactly what it’s doing. #birtheducation #falselabour #braxtonhicks #earlylabour #labour #birth #contractions

〰️Practice Contractions VS Labour〰️ How will you know when REAL labour begins? False labour signs (Braxton Hicks/Practice Contractions) are a tightening sensation in your belly and uterus that come and go. Alongside your abdomen muscles going ‘hard’ you may feel some period-like cramping as well. Practice contractions are our bodies way to help prepare the uterus for labour but they do not cause labour. They are typically irregular, infrequent and will usually stop if you change positions. Real labour contractions will typically last longer than 30 seconds, become very regular/close together, and stronger as time progresses. You will need to stop and breeeeathe through them. Did you experience practice contractions?

Braxton Hicks Contractions and False Labor Braxton Hicks contractions are a bit like a dress rehearsal: Your uterine muscles are flexing in preparation for the big job they'll have to do in the near future. Keep in mind that while they can be hard to distinguish from the real thing, they're not efficient enough to push your baby out the way actual labor contractions are. Braxton Hicks contractions can begin any time after week 20 of pregnancy in the second trimester, though they're more noticeable in later months, in the third trimester. They'll increase starting around week 32 all the way until real labor starts.  #braxtonhicks #falselabour #pregnancy #birth #beyond #askvicki #midwife

Save the post !!! Dangers of drinking castor oil during pregnancy. Castor oil is a strong Laxative. It will cause diarrhea to mother and severe dehydration. It will cause false labour pains and won’t help in dilating the cervix. After hours of labour the baby might go in to distress and his/her heart rate starts falling. Baby can pass meconium (1st poop) due to distress and castor oil. The meconium stays in the water bag and will be ingested via mouth or nose of baby. It will lead to emergency C-Section. Baby have to stay in to NICU or can die during this whole process. Not worth it at all, if someone wants to induce labour then they should go to their gynecologist. If she sees the cervix dilating she will start the labour via drips or suppositories. Oh we love to swing . What we dont love is 30 hours of contractions for mummy that stay 8-10 mins apart, and are progressing in terms of pain but not dilation (no loss of mucas plug or waters) . Honestly thought baby 2 was trying to make his debut early but thankfully they stopped eventually. And we avoided a hospital visit as movements remained consistent and i felt nothing was imminent or that concerning without the loss of the mucas plug. . #falselabour

* Descansar. * Comer bien pero ligero. * Meditación y Respiración profunda. * Disfrutar.
Tu ¿Cómo viviste la pre-labor y cuanto tiempo duró?

HOW TO DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN FALSE AND TRUE LABOUR PAINS One may experience FALSE LABOUR PAINS which are also called BRAXTON HICKS contractions. They can happen anytime after 24 weeks of pregnancy. Some juicy tips here 👉 swipe to see them all. Labour is a marathon, not a sprint and some labours do take longer than others. There is a natural ebb and flow to labours, they may feel very intense for a while and then let up for a bit. Society has led us to believe that this is a bad thing, but in reality, it’s normally just Mother Nature giving you some well earned rest! There are a few things that can impede the progress of labour, including paracetamol. Paracetamol inhibits the production of prostaglandin (one of your body’s natural hormones that is so important at the start of labour, it is used in induction of labours). I’ll be talking about this more in my stories today, so pop up and tell me what you think. And don’t forget to tag a birth partner who might need to remind someone of any of these things during labour #earlylabour #startstoplabour #falselabour #restandbethankful #babypositioning #spinningbabies #oxytocin #latentlabour

Don’t discount the work your body is doing in Pre/Early Labour! . I really hate the term “false labour”. Tbh I’m not sure that even exists! Even the earliest stages, when a healthcare provider doesn’t yet consider you to be in labour, are important and working towards bringing baby earth side! . It can be so frustrating to feel like active labour is imminent only to wait... and wait... and wait... sometimes for days! . Here are some things to remember in those early stages to help you keep calm and open to this very normal part of the process: . 1. Even those tiny or inconsistent contractions are working! As your cervix softens and thins (which has to happen BEFORE dilation), you might start to notice more “practice” contractions. They also help your body release endorphines that are naturally pain relieving building up your tolerance! . 2. Distraction is key. Been meaning to start that Harry Potter marathon? Pre/early labour is a great time for that! Keeping your mind off the “Is this it?!” Can help you stay relaxed, avoid frustration/disappointment, and avoid heading to the hospital too soon. . 3. Sleep and eat! Conserving your energy and fuelling your body for the rest of the labour process can help you avoid exhaustion. . How did you cope before it was “time”? . . . . . Brixton Hicks - did you feel them? I had them on/off from around week 22. They became so strong in the last few weeks that I was admitted to hospital at 33 and 36 weeks as they were mimicking real contractions. I was even on the Labour ward for 48 hours with NICU prepped for a premature birth! But no, she didn’t make an appearance until 39 weeks! Some people feel them, some don’t. The difference being that Brixton hicks don’t move your baby down, or ripen the cervix. But they are still doing a job! Working that uterine muscle, building oxytocin receptors and preparing your body for labour! Maybe that’s why my labour was so quick! My body was more than prepared!

Braxton Hicks ✨⁣ Braxton Hicks is the name given to the 'practice contractions' you might feel during pregnancy, when your womb contracts and relaxes without opening your cervix. Braxton hicks are usually felt in the 3rd trimester, although not all women are aware of them. Braxton Hicks are completely normal. They might be uncomfortable, but they shouldn't be painful. Labour contractions steadily become more frequent, last longer and become more intense, but Braxton Hicks will always vary in length and strength, and have no rhythm/pattern. If you are unsure if you're experiencing Braxton Hicks or labour contractions, or if your Braxton Hicks are uncomfy or irritating and you want them to settle, try: ⭐ Changing position ⭐ Lying down if you’ve been very active ⭐ Going for a walk if you’ve been sitting down for a long time ⭐ Relaxing, try a warm bath, massage, or a nap ⭐ Drinking some water to rehydrate Always contact your midwife or maternity unit for advice if you are not sure whether you are having Braxton Hicks or labour contractions. 📸 Another gorgeous illustration by @o_trocatintas ✍🏻 Words by The Mindful Midwife ✨ #birthpreparation #birthpreparationclasses #antenatalclasses #antenatalclassesmanchester #hypnobirthingmanchester #hypnobirthinghale #hypnobirthingcheshire #hypnobirthingaltrincham #midwifery #themindfulmidwife #antenatal #1sttrimester #2ndtrimester #3rdtrimester #hypnobirthing #positivebirth #positivebirthpreparation #braxtonhicks #contractions #tightenings #falselabour #earlylabour #surges #pregnant #duein2022 #braxtonhickscontractions #falsecontractions

Yes, your uterus is amazing and does incredible things during pregnancy. Including practicing for labour. Here's how to know the difference between practice contractions / braxton hicks and actual contractions: Labour contractions usually come at regular intervals and get closer together as labour progresses. Practice contractions don’t have a clear pattern. Labour contractions will continue if you rest, move around or change positions. Practice contractions stop when you rest and hydrate. Labour contractions are usually more intense and get stronger as labour progresses. Practice contractions tend to be more uncomfortable than painful (although they can be painful) and don’t get stronger over time. last friday, we thought i was going into labour 🙃 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ i woke up feeling contraction-like pain that affected my belly/abdomen and also continued to my lower back. i’ve felt this sensation before - was it finally time to meet baby girl?! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ it was painful and i couldn’t move, so i re-downloaded my “contractions” app and started timing! sure, i had been here before, but a lot can happen in a year, and sometimes your memory can get cloudy (hellooooo mommy brain!) 🧠 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ as i timed these contractions, i kept getting mixed signals from my app: at first it said to prepare to head to the hospital, then it told me to stay put 😂 i did the latter, because something told me it wasn’t time yet! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ the contractions eventually eased up, and after a nice, long shower, they completely disappeared! i continued my kick counts for the next few days and even whipped out my doppler for good measure! at my ob appointment today, the nurse and doctor reassured that baby was a-o-k and that i was likely to go into labour soon 🤞🏼 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ anyway, the moral of the story is that even if it’s *not* your first time going through a pregnancy (🙋🏼‍♀️), it’s ok to feel confused and uncertain. if you’re ever in doubt, you can reach out to your healthcare provider or the triage unit of your hospital (if you go that route) for more guidance. there are no silly questions! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ swipe through for some quick info about false labour. did you experience braxton hicks contractions? do you remember when they began? #alongcamemama ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ — ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #motherhood #momlife #torontomoms #mama #firsttimemom #momsofinstagram #mommystatus #mommylife #mommyblogger #newmom #ohheymama #parenthood #mamahoodinsquares #motherhoodinsquares #mamahood #momlifebelike #momlife #motherhoodintheraw #pregnancyjourney #newmama #parentingtips #labourpains #laborpains #39weeks #39weekspregnant #thirdtrimester #braxtonhicks #falselabour #falselabor
