I hadn't seen my childhood dolls for years, until I was recently at my mom and dad's helping them clean up and there they were. I smiled as I was flooded with memories and the reminder of the lessons I shared in GML, which serve me well to this day. When we don't get what we want right away, it may be that there is a growth opportunity or something better waiting for us. When we have made Jesus the Lord over our schedules, when our plans or dreams don't work out as we think they should we are not worried because we know God holds our futures and He is directing our steps and this is the peace of God that surpasses all understanding. When those plans don't work out, it's just redirection. Anxiety is an increasingly common experience in our world. If the devil can cause us anxiety then he will because anxiety keeps our thoughts off of God and on our circumstances and also off of what God can do in and through our circumstances. If we are not careful we can be swept into a spiral of over thinking and worry. But God tells us to come to Him with everything. To submit something to Him, to bring it to Him in prayer is to recognize that He is Creator and Director and He is above all things, yes even that thing that you are worried about. He alone has the power to protect and direct your life. Even in the most anxious of times when the world says we should be in a panic, we can be assured that God is with us, and He is more powerful than our anxiety. When we give our circumstances over to God, we are moving out of the way to allow Him to step in and handle whatever we face. Because whenever we try to take control, we often worsen the spiral of anxiety and worry and therefore the circumstance. We all have been there but we don't have to stay there. Yesterday was my oldest son’s birthday. Because we didn’t love some things about public school and chose a hybrid homeschool that was a better fit and have flexibility to do his work when it works for us, because my husband no longer HAS to work and chose not to yesterday, and because I have a job that doesn’t just pay all our bills to allow for those first two things to happen but gives me flexibility to work when I want, we were able to take him to a play place in the middle of the day when our 2 littles were in school to get some 2:1 time with him. We ran around, we laughed, we played, we were drenched in sweat when we left, and it felt so good to be able to do that fully focused on just him. The more kids you have, the harder it gets to spend 1:1 or 2:1 time with them, so this was a gift for all of us. And I can’t tell you how much it meant when Shawn said “This was a really great idea dear, you’re doing such a good job at so many things” or when Caleb prayed last night and thanked God for such a great birthday and most of all our time at Catch Air together. When Caleb was born, none of this was the case. We were drowning in debt, living paycheck to paycheck, he was gone every night, holiday, weekend and special occasion leaving me feeling like a single mom, and we couldn’t easily afford taking our kids on dates let alone a pricey private hybrid school. But I decided to stop complaining about my life, pray God would lead me to solutions and when he placed an opportunity in front of me that could change everything, I got to work. Here’s how my dog got really good at catching a frisbee. Four years of almost daily practice. Thousands of missed opportunities. Learning to track by chasing tennis balls. A good diet. Proper rest. Grit and determination to keep trying. And after all this time she still misses opportunities. She has even scraped her nose on the ground going for low flyers. And for her, the journey is the destination. She has no thoughts about if I could be the best dog catching a frisbee or how many catches until I make it big?
