In search of the aurora borealis on night 2 came up empty. This was taken at the Admiralty Head Lighthouse at Fort Casey - it was windy and cold, but had a fun time hunting for the auroras! Fort Casey State Park has so much to see. It looks like they are trying to restore the structures with fresh paint on some of it. The big guns were fired the first time in 1901 and at one time was the 4th largest military post in Washington. The fort was decommissioned in the 1950's. Seattle Pacific university took ownership of parts of the fort and has renovated some of the buildings. Admiralty Head Lighthouse is located at Fort Casey State Park. The current lighthouse was built in 1903 but has not been active since 1922. It was closed when I visited so missed out on all the historic information as well as the view from the top. What a difference a couple of days makes as far as the weather goes. I enjoyed soaking up the sun, walking along the beach, and watching the sea lions on Thursday. It poured down rain and the wind picked up last night. We are now living with our slides in. Today I pushed against the 30+ mph winds to take some beautiful pictures and enjoyed watching the waves crash on the beach. We left Birch Bay this morning and went to Fort Casey State Park on Whidbey Island via the Deception Pass Bridge. It's in the high 40° here. We're right on the water of the Admiralty Inlet.
