DAY16 HALDENHOF - BASELBLICKHÜTTE 26km: EN: After the summit, the long descent begins: over the next 10 kilometers, the Westweg loses more than 700 meters in altitude, passing the mystical hut at Hexenplatz and the idyllic ruins of Sausenburg Castle before reaching the town of Kandern. Here I cooled off with an ice cream and crossed the Wolfsschlucht gorge with its bizarre rock formations. I had finally arrived in the Markgräfler Land. DE: Nach dem Gipfel begann der lange Abstieg: auf den nächsten 10 Kilometern verlor der Westweg über 700 Höhenmeter und passiert dabei die mystische Hütte am #hexenplatz und die idyllische Burgruine #sausenburg , bevor der Ort #kandern erreicht wird. DAY16 HALDENHOF - BASELBLICKHÜTTE 26km: EN: The next day, the bad weather and the many clouds of the previous days had finally cleared and I started the penultimate day on the Westweg in the warm light of the September sun. Between me and the trailhead in Basel there were now a good 46km and the 1,146m high summit of the „Blauen“. The ascent was not too difficult and so at lunchtime I was able to enjoy the incredible and this time cloud-free view over the southern Black Forest. DE: Am nächsten Tag hatte sich das schlechte Wetter und die vielen Wolken der vorherigen Tage endgültig verzogen und ich startete im warmen Licht der Septembersonne in den vorletzten Tag auf dem Westweg. My favourite place in Albania? Theth! My biggest mistake in Albania? Only going to Theth for a day trip. Our original plan had been to hike over the mountain to Valbona, but everything I read suggested that it wouldn’t be possible in April. Unsure as to what kind of weather conditions we might experience in Theth we decided to play it safe and just go there for a day. I really wish we had spent at least 1 night there as the scenery was breathtaking and I would have loved to have explored more of the trails. Due to lack of time we only did two: 1. The waterfall hike - 8.4k (we added a bit extra in) and 319 m of ascent. Very straightforward and no navigation needed as you just follow the river until you see the waterfall up on the hill. It does involve crossing a creek which was easy enough to do. Then it is a short sharp climb to the base of the waterfall. 100% worth it. 2. The Blue Eye. You could walk there and back from Theth but it’s a long day. We opted to return to Theth, have a lovely lunch, and then drive to the start of the trail. From there it is 5k and 200 metres of ascent. Again, a relatively straightforward path although it branches a couple of times which caused a little bit of confusion. Turns out either path takes you to the same place. Don’t make the mistake we made!! When we got to the river crossing we thought we had reached the Blue Eye!! We actually needed to have gone 5 minutes further 🙈 An excuse to go back I guess! Madeira dag 2: en levada tur, hvor man går under vandfald og ind igennem tuneller. En lidt sjov ud og hjem tur på ca. 10 km. Turen er på kanten af levada og ender ved et kæmpe vandfald! Vi kom tideligt afsted og fik derfor det meste for os selv på udturen. Madeira dag 1: efter et lidt kort nattesøvn og en lang rejsedag tog vi ved 8 tiden afsted imod første vandretur. PR8 hedder ruten og går til det østligste af øen. Vi fik skaffet vand og en snickers på en tankstation til en meget overkommelig pris. Ruten er ca 8 km lang, fantastiske udsigter og også et par gode stigninger. En ret fin startrute på en dag hvor vi var trætte. 📍Old Town Altea, Costa Blanca, Spain 🇪🇸🌞 A pretty town with white washed buildings and narrow cobbled streets, perfectly situated between the mountains and beach 🌄 🦀 ⛪I also love popping into a Church as they are so beautiful and are usually steeped in history. The Nostra Senyora del Consol is an iconic building in the heart of Old Town Altea and looks lovely lit up at night. ✨ We stayed in the quiet Altea Mountains for a week back in March, and had some gorgeous sunny weather. First full day on the #Hadrianswallpath had me leaving the city of Newcastle for the countryside of England. I was aware of the ship-building history of NewCastle, but not it extent! The river walk out of the city along the Tyne was a reminder of its industrial history. Once you hit Newburn the landscape changed to a rolling countryside, followed by a steep climb to Heddon-on-the-wall for my first glimpse of Hadrians Wall! ¡Conociendo un poquito más de Cataluña desde las alturas! ⛰️🤩 🥾Trekking en la comarca de la Garroxta, específicamente, la Alta Garrotxa, con una tremenda diversidad y singularidad en su paisaje y no por nada, es conocida como el espacio más importante del Pre-Pirineo Oriental. 🧭 Una ruta circular de 20 kms y 800 metros de desnivel, pasando por hermosos valles como el Valle de Oix y d'Hortmoier. Llegamos al Puig de Bestracà de 1108 msnm., donde pudimos apreciar parte de la Serra del Bestracà. En el tramo previo a la cumbre, que por cierto es bastante rocoso (recordé subiendo la cumbre a La Campana 😅), se puede observar las cumbres más emblemáticas de esta comarca, como el Comanegra, Bassegoda o la Cresta del Ferran, que destaca por su geomorfología, literalmente una cresta. 🏚️ La ruta, continúa hacia San Andrés de Bestracà, donde a mitad de camino se encuentra una ermita del siglo XII, del mismo nombre, con un entorno natural de cuento y que está en muy buen estado de conservación, después de varias restauraciones. 🍃🌿 Seguimos rumbo al Valle d'Hortmoier, un paisaje húmedo y apacible, con flora nativa muy presente (roble, enebro, encina, acebo, haya común y otros). Lo más destacable son tres robles del rey, inmensos que están protegidos y otra ermita de nombre San Miguel de Hortmoier. 😌 Agradecimientos a los compañeros de ruta: Antoni Mas por la energía y compartir sus conocimientos de montes, botánica y anécdotas de montaña. Granada highlights ✨ last weekend in Granada was stunning, one of those places that’s so magically beautiful it’s hard to imagine people really live there. Here are some of the places that really blew me away and I’d recommend to anyone else visiting: Tapas bars - in Granada tapas come free with every drink purchase, and since you’re not choosing what you get the quality at some places is better than others. These were a few of my favorites: @labotelleriagranada: nice tapas variety & quality @barlosdiamantes3: lemony salty fried fish tapas @latanagranada: best wine by far Beas de Granada hike - about 40 mins away from the city by bus, this unbelievable hike takes you through olive groves, overlooks the snowy Sierra Nevada mountains, and brings you right back to the Alhambra in the center of town. Winter/early Spring was a perfect time to do it because the snow-capped mountains were especially gorgeous, and with minimal shade I’d be hesitant to try it in hotter heat. Alhambra (duh) - this is booked months in advance for good reason, even the gardens (Generalife) are incredible to walk through and look back at the main structures of the palaces plus the city at your feet. Note that you are really booking a ticket with a specific time for the Nasrid Palace, but there is about 2 hours more worth of things to see within the Alhambra complex that you can access at any time that same day. Tip: bring your own headphones, they have a free audio tour you can access on your phone (and don’t buy the more expensive tour tickets). Mirador San Nicholas: pick up a bottle of wine, get here before sunset (it gets crowded), and stake out a spot to watch the show. From here you get the full sunset view, the glow against the Alhambra, and the pink against the Sierra Nevadas. The scenic Schengen Moselle Promenade trail along the Moselle River offers hikers picturesque views of vineyards, charming villages, and historic landmarks. Highlights include the vineyard landscapes of the Moselle Valley, the historic Schengen Castle, and the opportunity to taste local wines in one of the many wineries along the way. The Alzette Valley trail follows the Alzette River through Luxembourg City, offering hikers a unique combination of urban and natural scenery. The route passes through lush forests, tranquil parks, and historic sites such as the UNESCO-listed Old Town of Luxembourg. Calanque de Sugiton, Zuid-Frankrijk. • Er zijn slechts enkele plaatsen in Europa waar m’n hart sneller van gaat slaan als ik eraan terugdenk. Ik kan ze eigenlijk op m’n handen tellen. Zo was de Costa del Sol de eerste, en wisten ook de Plitvice Meren in Kroatië m’n hart te veroveren. Maar er is 1 plek, niet zo ver van huis, waar ik nog geregeld aan terugdenk. 🇨🇿 Die Region Jihočeský kraj (Südböhmische Region) ist eine von 14 Regionen in Tschechien. Sie liegt vor allem im südlichen Teil Böhmens, umfasst aber auch einen kleinen Zipfel der historischen Landschaft Mähren. Tiefe Wälder, wunderschöne Teiche und historische Städte voller Leben, mittelalterliche Burgen und Kirchen, verträumte Renaissanceschlösser und Klöster - das ist Südböhmen. Die heutige Wanderung führt uns durch das UNESCO Welterbe Česý Krumlov. Die kleine Stadt liegt in Südböhmen, am Dreiländereck, zwischen Deutschland, Österreich und Tschechien. Krumau ist umgeben von den grünen Hügeln des Böhmerwaldes und liegt in einem Talkessel in mitten der Flusschleife der Moldau, die den Ort durchtrennt. Jede der Altstadtgassen ist gesäumt von historischen Gebäuden im Renaissance- und Barockstil. Ein Spaziergang durch die kleine südböhmische Stadt fühlt sich an, wie eine Reise in eine längst vergangene Zeit. Cesky Krumlov: Für diese Wanderung gibt es keine Beschreibung, da ihr euch einfach treiben lassen solltet von der Schönheit dieser kleinen Stadt. To complicate matters, which size fits all depends on the brand; sometimes size 13 fits, sometimes I have to go all the way up to 15.
