I don't have children. I've really never wanted children. But I have to say, I love photographing children. They're so natural in front of the camera and always have such open hearts. I met this enchanting group in Uganda at the Déo Elephant Trench (more on that in another post). And yes, I made sure to ask their parents' permission first. #uganda #kids #friends #childrenphotography #travelphotography #travelphotos🌎 #intrepidtravel #lovelyday

Welcome to one of the most dangerous places in Iceland: Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach!! While being one of Iceland's most popular tourist sites (photos in front of its basalt stacks made famous by Instagram 🤦🏼‍♀️), it is also a place where an over-abundance of caution is necessary. The South Coast of Iceland lies along the Atlantic Ocean, and is at the mercy of its power. This beach, and others along Iceland's coastline, are subject to Sneaker Waves. These are huge coastal waves that can suddenly appear in a train of smaller waves. The sneaker waves are larger and faster than those in between and reach way further. Many tourists have been swept out into the ocean, where there is a deep drop off, and drowned in the icy water. There is a traffic-light system before stepping onto the beach, which highlights where it is safe to go to, and the rules of the beach: - Don't go anywhere near where the waves are landing. Note that sneaker waves can form even when the weather is calm. - Don't go bathing or surfing there, being a strong swimmer won't save you. - Never turn your back to the ocean (that selfie isn't worth dying for). - Don't follow others like sheep, make your own judgments of the danger you may be in. - Don't put yourself at risk by helping others. That could result in a more complex rescue mission for emergency response teams. #cassventured #Iceland #fireandice #reynisfjara #blacksandbeach #sneakerwaves #dumbwaystodie #responsibletourism #intrepid #intrepidtravel #goodtripsonly #icelanddiscovery #seetheworld #travelgirl #girltravels #travel #worldtravel #worldtraveller #travelwide #travelconsultant #flightcentre #flightie #flightielife #experienceourexperience #beentherewithfc #fortravellersbytravellers

For years I wanted to go gorilla tracking, and I finally had the opportunity in Uganda. What an extraordinary experience it was. The guides, porters, and trackers, couldn't have been more helpful in ensuring we were safe and loving the adventure. It was mindblowing how little the gorillas cared about our presence. They'd look at us straight in the eyes. We might as well have been a tree. A giant (and I mean huge) silverback walked past me, brushing my leg. It was absolutely thrilling. The first photo is a large female, and the second is the silverback. #gorilla #silverbackgorilla #uganda #wildlife #wildlifephotography #wildlıfeplanet #bwindiimpenetrableforest #travel #travelphotography #travelphotographer #intrepidtravel #exciting #adventuretravel #sustainability

Stop #7: Jaipur, the Pink city. It's the capital of the Rajasthan state and its biggest city. Jaipur is known as the Pink City, as in 1876 Queen Victoria’s son, Albert Edward (who become King Edward VII) visited India and, at the time, pink was the symbolic colour of hospitality. This is why Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh I had the whole city painted pink to welcome the royals Jaipur is also known as a world capital of gemstones (my bank account knows something about this...). #jaipur #rajasthan #intrepidtravel #northindiarevealed

Tastes of Cambodia. No, I did not eat a spider. I did eat a... mealworm? I dunno. Some sort of worm. It was weird. That was enough. This is a popular stop on the way between Phnom Pehn and Siem Reap. I was happy to walk away with candied fruits instead of insects, but you can buy an assortment of prepared invertebrates for your snacking pleasure at this spot. . . #asia #cambodia #arachnids #spiders #tarantula #snacks #hangry #beintrepid #intrepidtravel #potd #southeastasia #travelphoto

Abu Simbel defies belief! Abu Simbel is a historic site comprising two massive rock-cut temples in the village of Abu Simbel (Arabic: أبو سمبل), Aswan Governorate, Upper Egypt, near the border with Sudan. It is located on the western bank of Lake Nasser. The twin temples were originally carved out of the mountainside in the 13th century BC, during the 19th Dynasty reign of the Pharaoh Ramesses II. Their huge external rock relief figures of Ramesses II have become iconic. His wife, Nefertari, and children can be seen in smaller figures by his feet. Sculptures inside the Great Temple commemorate Ramesses II's heroic leadership at the Battle of Kadesh. #abusimbel #touringegypt #egypt #travellife #sabbatical #intrepidtravel

Last of the Siem Reap photo dumps. I was delighted to be greeted by an enormous shiny golden Brahma at the airport - one last Brahma encounter as I farewelled Kampuchea. Obviously the trip was incredible. I’m beyond glad I went. All those cliches about travel are legit. I relished shedding some skins from back home and I hope I keep them shed! It was such a treat to meet the amazing single women on this tour. They entered my life exactly when I needed them. This trip and these women, these gods and these temples - they shone light into my life and lit up sun dust-covered corners I’d forgotten. May I always remember 🙏 #kampuchea #cambodia #siemreap #intrepidtravel #photodump

Royal Palace. Phnom Pehn, Cambodia. The exterior of the palace is really lovely. The exterior was rebuilt but the historic design of the original wooden structure was maintained. There's not a lot of access to the building interiors. Lack of interior access is worth noting because it's hot as balls in southeast Asia right now. 😋 The remainder of the day focused on genocide. I'm not sure how to post about that at the moment. Or maybe the best way to post about it is to not post about it? Part 2 - Day of 3 hiking. A had good part of our hike was spent treking through the water in gorgeous gorges (ha ha)... For 3 nights, we stayed in very rustic gites or guesthouses which a totally new experience for me! On the plus side, it was a great way to experience the local culture. Our “rescue“ dog made it to the guesthouse by mule kids and upon arrival the kids from the village came to meet her. Sadly, dogs are not generally kept as pets in Moroccan families. #morocco #middleatlasmountains #intrepidtravel

Siem Reap day 2 - Local Village & Sala Baï Hotel School 26.04.24 After the floating village, Bong Fila took us to the village where his cousin lives. Such a different perspective to how people live in the city of Siem Reap. And eating sun cooked snails! I wasn't brave enough to try one. Then off to Sala Baï Hotel School, where selected under privelledged young adults are sponsored to learn a trade in tourism: cooking, front of house, wait staff, spa & beauty or housekeeping. As with our southbound Drake Passage crossing I spent almost all my time out on deck mainly looking for Albatross. Thankfully for our northbound crossing it was far more ‘Drake Lake’ than our southbound ‘Drake Shake’! @alittleofftrack was certainly happy. … Some Albatross are easier to photograph than others! And with this Albatross(the one I most wanted to see) it was all about patience. I literally spent hours on the freezing deck waiting for it. Exploring the wonders of 🇪🇬 with a great travel group and wonderful guide. The Great Pyramid is the largest Egyptian pyramid and served as the tomb of pharaoh Khufu, who ruled during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom. Built c. 2600 BC,over a period of about 27 years, the pyramid is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The Sphinx is the oldest known monumental sculpture in Egypt and one of the most recognizable statues in the world. The archaeological evidence suggests that it was created by ancient Egyptians of the Old Kingdom during the reign of Khafre (c. 2558–2532 BC). A wonderful experience! If ever in Egypt, our guide Mina Kromel is the best. From Cusco to Machu Picchu to the warm smiles and floating reed islands of Lake Titicaca my first trip to Peru leaves me with countless touching memories. @intrepidtravel #intrepidtravel #peru #travelwriting #southamerica #onassignment #internationaltraveller #laketiticaca #cusco #puno

One of the many highlights of our trip to India was our visit to the town of Suroth in Karauli. We were greeted with such a warm welcome and friendly smiles from all the local people 😊 This lady was enjoying her afternoon out with her friends and their children, and they were very proud to show us their beauty parlour ❤️ More photos to come.. #suroth #karauli #rajasthan #india #ruralindia #village #photographer #photography #colour #red #fashion #lifestyle #indianfashion #clothes #beauty #smile #gold #travelphotography #intrepidtravel #lovetotravel #travellife #instagood #instafashion

Siem Reap day 1 - Bayon Temple - 25.04.24 The temple of the smiling faces. Using the leftover stone from Angkor Wat (waste not, want not!) to build a Buddhist temple. Angkor Wat was built as Hindu originally. Met some Monks inside & learned alot about their journey. Whenever a parent dies, males will become a Monk for 3 days to guide their spirit, and some decide to stay at it. We met two 17 y/os, a 15 y/o and a 10 y/o. The younger monks didn't lose anyone, but they didn't want their parents to worry about them as they got older. Also learned that you can decide to stop being a monk at any time, and that the men who leave the monastery are highly desired by parents to marry their daughters! #bayontemple #siemreapcambodia #cambodia #intrepidtravel #templehopping #placetoourselves #sweatyselfies

Our last stop in India was Pushkar! This city was on a beautiful lake! We explored the city then had dinner with a local family! Harshita surprised us with fireworks! We then had a slow morning before heading back to Delhi! India is such an amazing place and I want to come back to explore it more! Next up: Greece! #india #pushkar #rajasthan #intrepidtravel
