This mornings biometric screening results. I am satisfied with the numbers but I want to get that HDL (Good Cholesterol) number higher and that LDL (bad cholesterol) lower, and I know what I need to do. Be sure to get your checkups so you know what you need to do to improve and to see how much wiggle room you have. Dont have "cheat days" if your numbers arent right. Today, I visit one of our local Farmacies. I had the honor to visit the collective of farmers at the Urban Farm Incubator at Watkins Park. It's so important that we know our local Farmacist (know who grows your food). This farm sits on a former slave plantation and is located directly across the street from my church. I'm embarrassed to say that I had no idea they were there. The #1 prayer in black churches are for something health related. Many black churches are in food deserts. People dont have access to the organic foods that heal, but for my church, the answer to many people's prayers is directly across the street. I toured the farm, sampled crops and sat down to talk to the farmers to see how we can work together and help each other. All the medicine that my church needs to reverse disease is sitting right there across the street. Years ago, I had a dream that every church will have a garden or partner with farmers. Every day that you ignore your physical health is a day that you potentially get closer to poor health. Your body copes well, but can only take so much damage and neglect. I've always been the "nice guy" when it comes to encouraging people to take health seriously, but how I talk about this stuff on the outside doesn't often reflect the urgency I feel for you on the inside. 1. Convenience Foods Somewhere along the way, we became convinced that the only thing you need to do when you get hungry is to have "something on your stomach." Problem is, your body has fundamental needs for NUTRIENTS. Half the stuff we eat ain't even food. That causes your body to malfunction (known as being "overfed and undernourished") 2. Transportation Trains, planes and automobiles are great, no doubt. Problem is, we don't walk ANYWHERE now. Your body is made to move, and when it doesn't, it works less and less efficiently until it literally starts to break down (muscle atrophy, heart problems, high blood pressure, etc.) 3. Individualism Our society has moved us away from the close bonds with family and friends, and more towards a sort of isolationism. Studies show that being isolated and lonely have clear, detrimental effects on physical health. And NO, social media is NOT a substitute for real human relationships 4. "Busyness" Culture Hustle is cool and necessary sometimes, but being in hustle-mode non-stop results in missed sleep, an unbalanced lifestyle, and a perpetual state of stress which, again, harms your physical health 5. Being Isolated from Creation We are literally made from the "dust of the ground." Yet, we are the most isolated living beings when it comes to being connected with God's creation. This results in us missing out on our main source of Vitamin D (sunlight), proper melatonin production, exposure to beneficial bacteria found outside, fresh air, and so much more. Staying inside all of the time increases your exposure to indoor toxins found in household cleaners and building materials. It's not that you shouldn't talk about living a healthier life, reaching specific fitness goals, and so on... It's just that if all you end up doing is TALKING about losing the weight, or TALKING about disciplining your sweet tooth, or TALKING about exercising, or TALKING about getting off of BP meds one day...what's the use? And plus, do you really have time like that? Your body is resilient, but it can take only so much abuse and neglect. Everyone has heard the phrase, “If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.” Well folks, that ain’t true! 😂 Out of all of the jobs I’ve had, there have only been two that I can say I LOVED. Being a kid ministry leader at my church, and being a health accountability coach. And both of them required me to PUT IN THE WORK. Back in 2020 when the pandemic hit, circumstances required me to step out of ministry, and it broke my heart. 💔 I grieved the loss of a team (and dear friends) that shared the same goals and vision for our ministry. But then GOD. He knew my heart missed all of those things. He knew I was looking to serve others beyond the walls of my own home, and He knew that I desired to have my cup full again. While I was working to save my sanity through prioritizing my health (which was freaking hard to do through COVID), I started helping others do the same. And there it was - the answer to my prayers. I decided to take a leap of faith and grab the opportunity to serve others in a capacity that I am extremely passionate about, while working from home, with a powerful platform to connect and reach others who need help with their health. 💞 Do YOU need this type of help? I’ve been making some pretty great food choices lately and it has me feeling real GOOD. 😌 I spent the month of May and beginning of June suffering from mild gastrointestinal issues. There was a lot of internal chaos and stress and it was manifesting itself physically in my body. That’s the brilliant thing about your body, it reveals symptoms so that you will turn your attention to finding the root of their cause. Most of the time, the root of our symptoms result from dis-symbiosis in our gut. After I lost the first 70lbs., my weight plateaued and as a result, I stopped pooping 💩 regularly. (Sorry if that’s TMI…) When the doctor told me that I would "just have to learn to adjust" to having a BM 💩2-3x a week, (yep, a week!) I began trying everything under the sun--Metamucil, Miralax, psyllium husk, cleanses, detoxes, even colonics and enemas.
