Charlotte's Mom here: This afternoon my cat, Puff, crossed the Rainbow Bridge. ๐ She was my last cat of 5 and was 20 years old. Puff was a Tortoiseshell and had that Tortie attitude! There are so many sweet moments that I never shared because I didn't like the way I looked. (Why do we do that?) Thankfully I knew that moments were still worth snapping pics. I'm so glad to have all these pics that tell a story. This was morning coffee most days, lol. I would tell him he didn't like coffee and he would tell me "yesidoooo!" Today at Harry's appointment, my vet and I started talking about Baby Doug since it was his birthday last week. I have new fears with my boys that I'm trying to navigate and I mentioned a couple things that have been lingering in my mind. I fear that someday, in all the research I do, I'm going to stumble upon information that shows something curable that mimics lymphoma on fine needle aspirates. I think I can finally start releasing that. I also frequently think about how I never actually said "goodbye" or "I love you" or anything in the moment that I can remember. I was holding him on my lap and he couldn't see my face and I couldn't see his, but we were together. I said this too. I told her I wanted him close and to be on me but I was worried about his fever and discomfort. It made sense to me at the moment. She listened and validated. I feel really fortunate to have such a great relationship with my vet. She is so amazing and understanding and I know Doug was special to her and so many at my vet office. I think I gained a bit more acceptance just voicing some of these things and I did not expect that to happen with a visit with my Harry. โค๏ธ Harry is my other miracle cat, defying crazy odds years ago and I'm gonna need him and all my babies to do that for a long time. Anyway, I know Doug is with me and I'll carry him with me forever. I know he needed to be free and I know that love does not end with death. He was a special little soul taken far too soon and the depth of my sadness represents the depth of our bond. I know he's been with us every single day. Take your cats to the vet. Get them established if they aren't already. Cats deserve healthcare, both preventative and sick. Just like dogs. Iโm the reason this Instagram account exists. Four years ago today, I went over the rainbow bridge and my parents were so heartsick that Mommy taught herself how to use Instagram in my honour. My picture is up on their shelf and they still call my favourite counter โXeusโs Islandโ. They also still laugh about the joke I played on them from beyond. When they adopted two little girl kittens to help them fill the void I left, I waited a few weeks for Mommy to notice that Lucy had a set of balls!! There's a daffodil that grows and blooms in the ditch by my driveway year after year. I don't have any other daffodils anywhere and it's always one bloom. Today, I noticed it and thought of Doug. I ran to the store and it was super cloudy, even kind of ominous when I left, and when I was coming home, the sky was extra beautiful. I thought of Doug. My sweetest little shadow, my constant companion, the one who taught me so much about unconditional love, who accepted me as I am, who checked on me, who kept me accountable, who never tired of my shenanigans, who knew on every level that I was trying my best for him, and who made me better in so many ways. Since losing Baby Grey Iโve hardly slept. It hurts too much to go to bed where he would always cuddle with me so I stay up most of night and then sleep on the couch. He was my soulmate pet.
