This is Jedidiah Smith campground inside of the Redwoods State and National Park systems. There is a 25’ length limit. Our rig was no problem! We are a Winnebago View. 2021. 24D. There are plenty of sites we would not have fit into. This was site #60. The Smith River is behind this site. It is gorgeous! It is definitely tight driving in and you must go slowly and carefully. It’s worth it! We are here in the rainy season so lots and lots of water. I’ve been getting so many redwoods-oriented elopement inquiries lately, and I’m OBSESSED. Photographing couples in this magical setting is quite possibly my absolute favorite part of my job. Will it surprise you to tell you I also got married under these trees? 😍 Last week I booked a couple for their April elopement; they live in the Bay Area and were originally planning on eloping here in Guerneville (a redwood mecca), but then I threw a wrench in their plans by asking... “Have you thought about getting married up north in Redwood National Park area?” I presented a couple ideas of scenic spots and trails they could include in their day, and a few days later they emailed me saying they’d made up their mind: RNP it was! In case you aren’t familiar, the redwoods up north in the top corner of California put Guerneville and Sonoma County to shame. Did you know that part of Star Wars (forest of Endor) was filmed there? That forest is nothing short of spectacular — when my husband and I explored it for the first time a couple years ago, I was in a perpetual state of wide-eyed, mouth-open gleeful shock. Redwood National Park and the surrounding state parks are the kind of place where if you’re quiet and still enough, you just might sense a dinosaur grazing behind the trees over there. Christmas Eve I received the gift of meeting an ancient redwood tree in Jedidiah Smith state park. It was truly an indescribable experience, something I had dreamed about all my life, being the presence of magnificent Redwoods. Hell yeah 👏🏻 12/10 would recommend multiple days if you can. It’s a rabbithole of adventures and with a wild history and a diverse ecosystem. The many stumps littered throughout some of the areas is a gnarly reminder of the past, and surreal to think that these will outlive everyone we know today.. Are you nature deficient? 🍃 I visited the Redwoods National Forests last month and was introduced to the term “forest bathing” which means just walking slowing through a forest and taking in all it has to offer. 🌲 There has actually been studies done and books written on the benefits of forest bathing. Turns out spending time walking through a forest decreases depression, anxiety, stress and anger as well as strengthens the immune system, improves cardiovascular and metabolic health and improves overall wellbeing. 🤗 Not to mention that it’s is just visually stunning. Specifically walking through a forest vs just nature also improved sleep 😴 and reduced fatigue. Nature truly is the best medicine 🌿🌱🌳
