I believe rest is resistance, vacations and breaks are essential and that time away restores our ability to meet the demands of our lives. At the same time, when we are burned out and overwhelmed, we gravitate towards extreme solutions and feel the need to shimmy through the escape hatch. Our task in this very challenging life is to find a way to make things bearable enough tghat we don’t want to run away. We had renovation plans for part of the garden this Spring, but there has been an increase in the number of birds choosing to call it home for the nesting season this year (most likely due to the improved conscious effort to feed them over the colder months) and nests are popping up in the most inventive of places. Naturally, renovation plans have been paused until after the nesting season and the renovation itself will not negatively impact nesting sites in the future. Over all, it's quite a humbling development really; though this has disrupted our plans, who are we to disrupt Mother Nature's. #respectnature 🧡 P.S. In a funk? Here are 5 quick ways to shift back into ease and joy ✨ We all know these days. Life just doesn’t go as planned. We get bad news. We fight with our partner, co-worker or our kids. Or we just feel achy and off. 😬 In moments like this, we often think that we are going to feel sh*tty forever. But just like with a gray sky, emotions change, moods lift and pain goes away. And reveal the blue sky again. ☀️ And gladly, there are simple ways in which we can support this process. Here are 5 ideas for the next time you are in a funk: 1️⃣ Stretch & move Yes! As simple as that. ✨ Get up, maybe even go outside and stretch a little (alternatively you can also go for a little brisk walk). You could also do 5-10 minutes simple yoga or qigong to reset your body! 2️⃣ Do a quick round of EFT 💛 Have you heard of EFT - also called tapping? It is a quick way to shift back into ease. If you are new to tapping check out Brad Yates on youtube (Tap with Brad). He has many great videos for every situation you can imagine. 3️⃣ Cold water 💦 If you are deep in a funk, try to take a super cold shower for a minute or two (you can also jump into a lake nearby). If that is not feasible put your wrists in cold water or wash your face with cold water a couple of times. 4️⃣ Breathe 🧘 You have probably heard about this one before. The breathe is one of our most potent tools do shift our nervous system. It doesn’t really matter if you do box breathing, 7-8-4, physiological sight, etc… Just pick one and do it for a couple of minutes. 5️⃣ Talk to a friend 🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Connecting to others when in a funk is easier for some people than others. But if this feels like an option for you, try calling a friend or just chatting with a co-worker or even friendly looking person at the coffee shop. When we connect with others we tap into the power of co-regulation! All these tips shift your nervous system from fight, flight, freeze (where we usually are when we feel off) back into a rest and relax mode. ✨ Try it out! * As always let me know what you think and what your experiences are! Some needed glimmers today ~ Glimmers are gentle moments, obversations, where beauty, joy, or a sense of wonder or gratitude can be noticed and felt..or a feeling of being deeply interconnected - essentially they are the opposite of triggers. When I am feeling pain and frustration, which happened quite strongly for me this morning, I could notice the parts of me blending with these feelings and the narratives that get stimulated from them. When I touch into this, it is important for me not to ignore these experiences but to give space to them, gently hold them, practice some self-compassion And...also open up to what is present around me to invite in what is here - moments of beauty. Which for me right now is picking the first veg of the season, some lovely swiss chard from the garden that will get put into a stir fry tonight, and I also noticed the first rose that has bloomed - and it's just gorgeous!
