Cara... Esse filme aí com certeza alguns vão me xingar pela indicação caso venham assistir, mas pô, eu assisti do começo ao fim sem pausar uma vez sequer.... O filme INTEIRO se passa numa sala fechada, em um "círculo" de pessoas com uma máquina no meio deles que literalmente mata alguém a cada 2 minutos. As pessoas não sabem como foram parar naquela sala, quem elas são, ou porque estão ali... Se você tentar sair do seu lugar, você morre também. Então eles descobrem que todos tem direito ao voto, e todos ali podem "votar" em quem será o próximo a morrer. O filme é isso, longe de ser um filme nota 10, mas te prende do começo ao fim tentando fazer você adivinhar o final (que na real eu já tinha sacado na metade do filme), mas ainda assim foi foda de ver. Circle is a morality class brought to life in cinematic form.It is riveting and enjoyable, and it constantly makes you think, and sometimes subconciously, choose too. Fifty people wake up standing in a circle in a dark room, which they believe to be within a spaceship that abducted them all. They’re playing a game, in which every two minutes one of them dies. Who get to die is decided by a majority vote. A tie means a quick revote between the ones who tied or all tied ones die at once. Lastly, people can choose to step out of the red circles in which each and everyone is standing, resulting in an automatic death and two minutes more for all the others to decide who’s next. A pretty interesting movie to watch during the quarantine, it is an interesting philosophical study. Since Circle showcases just what we ourselves do in our lifes too, by judging a person whom we meet in less than a minute, based on our own morals and preferences - intelligence, race, wealth, looks, gender etc. In Circle it happens too. The characters literally choose who gets to die until the last man standing. Young people want old people to die first and people of color assume that privileged white people want them to die first. A great discussion on morality. But what’s lacking is a serious attempt to figure out a way out, which would add explanation to why they’re in the situation they’re in and which would add further layers of depth to the concept and moreover there really should be more to the story than simple ethics put to the test, and that’s not what happens here. Most of what happens are exactly as you’d expect them. It's a very well written and acted movie, it's socially relevant and a great case proving that when the going gets tough, our true colours really come out. Circle keeps the level of suspense alive as we try to figure out how this all will play out all building to a final revelation that says nearly as much about human nature as does all the talk leading up to it. The heated dialogues are my favourite. Unpredictable ending and definitely a good film to discuss and dissect with your friends afterwards. Circle (2015) Directors: Aaron Hann, Mario Miscione Starring: Carter Jenkins, Julie Benz, Michael Nardelli — Filmed almost entirely in one room, Circle had to have a really compelling story to be successful. While the idea was interesting, everything else wasn’t lol. In this room, people have mysteriously woken up here and are being killed one by one. If the writing was better, this movie could have been good, but it got to the point where I didn’t really care what happened in the end. The acting wasn’t terrible, but the characters and dialogue really hurt the film. It became a constant, annoying shouting match in that room. But my biggest issue with Circle was that they couldn’t help but bring up every single human sociotype in a really tacky and annoying way. Regardless, it’s worth a watch because the idea should be unique enough to hold your interest. ANOTHER HAPPY DAY. (2011). Writer/director Sam Levinson's debut, son of Barry. Drama/dark comedy about a shattered family that Lynn (Ellen Barkin) belongs to. The family is brought together for a wedding, and one terrible weekend. Most of the family members have issues, and the drama piles on with a lot of unpleasantness. It's well acted, Barkin is great, as is Ellen Burstyn, and Ezra Miller, and Jeffrey DeMunn is amusing here. There are a few great scenes, the best being a scene between Thomas Haden Church and Kate Bosworth, and a dance sequence at the wedding with different music over it, getting across how artificial a lot of the fake happiness is there. The film has good intentions, deals with medical conditions in a mature manner, some impressive scenes blocking wise between Barkin and Ezra Miller shows Sam Levinson does have some talent as a director. Dramatically, a decent amount of this is quite unsatisfying. I didn't like some of the cinematography, and it's score seems to belong in a horror film. En tiempo real, deben identificar a sus captores y decidir cuál de ellos merece sobrevivir, en un juego macabro que nadie sabe cómo puede terminar. Opinión: Me parece una falta total de respeto que cuando buscás esta película te aparece que es UN THRILLER QUE DA INTRIGA. Es una de las películas más predecibles que tuve el disgusto de ver. Primero decís ‘uh, qué onda que están ahí?’, se deducen las reglas y cuando los personajes dicen dos líneas ya te das cuenta de todo. Son personajes súper estereotipados [que tocan temas ya sobreexplotados en el cine, como el racismo y homofobia, de una manera muy plana y patética] que están viendo quién es el que sobrevive, cuando ya es obvio quiénes son los que van a quedar en ‘la final’. Me dormí como cinco veces mirándola y cada vez que me despertaba era lo mismo. Sí, es cierto que te muestran hasta qué punto llega el egoismo, la unión para la supervivencia y quién es quién a lo último. Pero pudieron haberlo hecho mucho mejor, como, no sé, SAW, que son personajes bien construidos y que te hacen plantearte posta tus posturas o tus ideales. Personalmente, la considero una pérdida de tiempo. Encima, para el colmo, dura re poco, pero se me hizo ETERNA cuando la vi y no podía dejar de decir ‘ahre’ cada vez que algune hablaba o se morían lxs que sabiamos que moririan. Circle (2015) Director: Aaron Hann and Mario Miscione Duration: 1h 27m Rating: 3.8/10 ~ A lot of my slander for this film is mainly because I can’t stand films that don’t change setting. All Is Lost and Devil are the two films that immediately come to mind. A lot can be good in these movies especially if the acting is strong and the overall message is big enough, but if these aspects are missing you get a giant mess. In this film, we have a big cast of 50 or so victims and the plot follows everyone trying to stay alive as a laser kills one person every 2 minutes. The topics this film delves into are interesting and some of the acting can be tolerable at times but other than that I thought this film was a big dumpster fire. The controversial social conflicts it reveals show the viewer a bunch of stereotypes that reflect today’s culture. This social awareness is cool to see but they could have made the ending wrap into this and deliver a real punch but they decided not to. The ending is so bad, even worse than the last film I reviewed. Not only does it not satisfy the audience but it doesn’t even fit the feel of the film. I envisioned some big twist that changed the direction of the film and made us think about what we just watched. Needless to say, I got my hopes up a little too high. The acting was very generic and a few people had some dynamic characteristics but there were no memorable performances. The last survivor was the best performer and provided the only satisfaction throughout the duration of this mess. The cherry on top was the shitty VFX that made this feel like a b-movie straight off the Sci-fi channel. Movie Review - Circle (2015) ••• R , 87 Minutes ••• A group of fifty strangers find themselves in a dark room facing execution and must decide who among them deserves to live. ••• Circle has to be one of the most underrated things in the existence of our planet. Hardly anybody’s seen it and the ones that have usually talk about it like it’s some sci-fi trash on the level of Replicas.Last night I talked about creative premises, and this continues that streak. It’s such an interesting idea, but not because of the situational mystery or the frequent deaths. Instead, it leaves the door open for an interesting study on human nature, along with our values and beliefs. In this situation, should older people be targeted since natural causes would catch up to them first? Should pregnant women or children be spared or should everyone be on an equal playing field? Should foreigners be targeted since they can’t contribute to the conversation? Are married couples not as likely to be targeted? The idea leaves so many questions that the film does a great job of exploring. The acts are distinct, beginning with trying to figure out what’s going on and eventually turning into a numbers game as two factions compete for the majority. It gets really interesting and the writers are able to keep it that way despite being confined to a small room and having nothing but conversation to drive the movie. As the characters’ true motivations are revealed, you begin to sympathize with some and root against others. It turns it into a twisted reality show as you hope your favorites survive and almost cheer in a sense as the racists and homophobes drop to the floor. My biggest issue is the acting. There aren’t any big name actors and everyone is fairly inexperienced, making for weird line deliveries throughout.
