Sometimes, a piece of painting means more than just something pretty on the wall. As a multimedia artist, I delve into perceptions of bias through my watercolor and alcohol ink paintings: Glitched and UnGlitched. Glitched challenges viewers with its obscured portrayal of three unknown faces, prompting questions about identity and projection. The impossibility of discerning the faces through glitchy perceptions raises introspection: Who are these individuals; and could one of them be the viewer’s own projection? Conversely, UnGlitched offers an unfiltered view of two androgynous figures embracing amidst a fluid kaleidoscope of colors, revealing a shared humanity. These pieces are crafted to evoke reflection on empathy and self-awareness, fostering dialogue and highlighting the importance of recognizing filtered perceptions. Without transcending biases, genuine communities cannot form. Moreover, a sense of belonging will never coalesce into a community if our minds persist in projecting onto others. As of last week, I now have two permanent murals in my hometown..Monterrey, Mexico!! Si Señor!! 🕺🙏🏼❤️ One is in the house where I grew up (last slide), and this newest one is at the college I graduated from 15 years ago… La Facultad de Artes Visuales de la @uanlred /// It’s quite surreal to think that years ago, I was taking classes in the very classroom where this mural is now located. I never would have imagined that one day, I’d return to create a mural on the same wall I used to gaze at as a student in this university. Two sweet little abstracts… Are You Here? and I Am Listening 18” x 24” Acrylic and Oil on Canvas They work as a pair or individually. I think they’d be great with a floater frame, either black or natural oak! Now about these… Inspiration translates “to breathe in” or “of the Spirit.” These paintings were inspired by my love, @dave.riccio. He was sharing a story with me and I immediately saw the vision of these pieces while he was talking. Once he finished, I had to ask him to please tell me the story again so I could close my eyes, breathe in, and capture the memory of what Spirit was telling me. I painted them the next day. Pink Battle Witch is back! With a new magical robe and handmade sleeping dragon egg trinket gifts! Yesterday I attended my local Escondido Renaissance Faire once again in my Battle Witch character. It’s been a few years now developing this character’s wardrobe and accessories. Some of my favorite mentions is my magic orb powered sword, my tea cup with holster, magical herbs ready for use at any time faceted to my belt in a array of bottles, and ofcourse my hat that’s always changing adornments for each time worn. 🔮🗡️🌙✨ This time I wanted to make a magical robe that embodied a sorta “out of time” traveler look. As if this battle witch had appeared through out eras collecting materials on her adventures to make this mystical robe threaded with the secrets of magic itself. I love experimenting with the mixed metals for this character look as I sewed champagne gold lace trims, gold moons, and silver star charms; I really did enjoy seeing it all come together. The robe itself is constructed with upcycled thrifted items, such as a satin pink night robe, a reddish brown wrap dress, a table cloth, table runner, and some harvested materials from older sewing projects. 🪡🧵 ✨ One of my skills as a creative artist is to look at things not as they are presented, but look at the possibilities of how they can shine. ✨ I really enjoy developing this battle witch character with sewing and crafting projects to lvl up the overall look each time I get to embody this side of myself. I view myself as many personas, I am a fairy, a witch, a mermaid, a unicorn, and many other magical lights shine within me. Being able to make and wear things I love allows to celebrate myself. It’s one of my favorite ways to go about life. ‘Ruminator’ Charcoal and chalk Patel on paper 120.5 x 51cm 2023 I just realised I haven’t actually posted a picture of this piece completed so here she is. A representation of how it feels to be shrouded in the weight of constant rumination which is common within mentally ill people but I feel it has been exasperated for me with additional autistic and ADHD symptoms. Known fact: Juicy mermaids float 🍈🍈🧜🏻‍♀️ I actually did this one a while ago but was undecided as to whether it was finished. With this one I decided I definitely didn't want to create a mermaid with the typical beauty values that media forces upon us. I hate to criticise my fellow artists but I am so beyond bored of seeing endless art posts of clichéd beauty standards and stupidly unrealistic body proportions. Isn't it a bit easy following what is consistently packaged up to us and sold as beauty? I’ve been thinking…. Being an artist is about expressing oneself as well as bringing beauty into the world. For some that could look like social justice art, awareness to a cause, or a personal message for the world. For me, I think it means to bring beauty into spaces but it also holds a responsibility to be true to myself. I feel I cannot “willy-nilly” my message. What is my message you ask? My message is one of simplicity. Find out who you are without regard to others judgment or opinion and love that version of yourself with all your might. Wherever you are on that journey, be with it. Walk gently and explore, be patient and kind to yourself. Whatever you find, don’t judge it. Be with and accept the version that shows up. All will be well.

Today here at home, I started and finished a new crystal wire wrap tree project in my workspace for jewelry projects, and sculptural projects like this one, my bedroom, my work table is actually my bed that I pull the covers back and place a large cork board on it that I use for the flat surface, and wheeled my swivel chair over to the edge of the bed. I used various colors and sizes and types of jewelry wires, I used a nice crystal, and I also used some mini underdeveloped pinecones that you find specific times of the year near pine trees, these pinecones fall off quite tiny and preserve and dry quite well if you take care of them and put them in the right place. I used a ton of design techniques with the jewelry wire to make the base of the wire pine tree, and also it’s foliage on top. I used a smaller gage of wire to attach the mini pinecones to the crystal wire wrap tree. I made sure all parts of the project were nice and sturdy, tightened properly, and not too pointy! This is a completed work of art, a done art project, and a finished product as well if I ever end up selling it someday. It’s a beautiful and complex yet amazing sculptural art piece, if I do say so myself!
