And Why am I Mr. Pink? I had to try this wine simply for the name. I couldn’t have been more surprised and delighted when I found it to be delicious. A Sangiovese/Syrah blend rosé from the Underground Wine Project collab between Washington wine makers, it’s now housed under @mark_ryan_winery I’m in ❤️ with this rosé. Dry, aromatic and fruity. 🍓, 🍑, 🌺 🌸 🤤 Not too sweet. Crushable. Pairing this wine with a Tarantino-style soundtrack from the movie from which this infamous line originated, seemed too obvious. I decided I wanted to answer a question first. What was the reason one of my favorite actors was cast as the character of Mr. Pink in the 1992 film Reservoir Dogs? The story goes; Quentin Tarantino saw Steve Buscemi act in the 1986 ‘Parting Glances’. A 🎥 about to male lovers, Robert and Michael embarking on a long distance relationship, against the backdrop of Michael's ex, Nick, still involved in their world, living with AIDS. Nick was Steve Buscemi’s first major film role. Quentin Tarantino was noted to have said that Buscemi’s performance in this movie was so real, he didn’t believe he was acting. In fact, the character of Mr. Pink, was written by Tarantino for himself. He played the role flawlessly in Tarantino’s eyes. The movie continues to be one of my favorites as well. The soundtrack of ‘Parting Glances’ contains music by Bronski Beat; a Brit synth-pop band formed in the early 80’s. A band whose vinyl had been on my list for a quite a while. Finding this gem, Bronski Beat ‘Age of Consent’ was serendipitous. I’ve selected the beginning of ‘Smalltown Boy’ to sample. One of their best known songs and one I think many will know. Over sharing today. Since I recovered from #Covid in June, it took all of July for my sense of smell and taste to recover, I have not trusted 100% my ability to evaluate wine. Since last week, I think everything is working. Possibly better than before. I might be overly sensitive. In a good way 🤔😁 Example this 2017 Red Wine. My sensory memory says it is light and tasty. Today, for me, it is just plain decadent in richness of body and flavor. Blackberry juice, dark chocolate, smooth coffee nibs, hint of licorice, with a long tasty finish. Bottle open since 8/22. 57% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc. I also like to pair wine with music. Have not played this album in some time. Otis Taylor, Truth is not Fiction, 2003, perfect music pairing with this #redmountainava #colsolare red wine. Delicious. Vocals are center stage, his voice larger than life. Strings of violin and guitar thrums go right through me. Taste of this richly flavored wine and richly voiced music delectable together. I am spoiled. Truly.
