13/01/24: PET scan: on my CT scan they saw other tiny spots on my lung, adrenal gland and behind the breast plate so to be sure I was sent up to the Norfolk & Norwich hospital for a PET scan (positron emission tomography) which is a more sensitive scan than the CT scan. It was very similar to the CT scan but I was all wrapped up in the dark for 10 mins and I’m sure I had a little snooze while I was in there 😴😂! Thankfully those other spots were nothing to worry about - but they also said if they were then the targeted chemotherapy would zap them anyway ⚡️. #petscan #ctscan #nnuh #norfolkandnorwichhospital

'Seals at Happisburgh' - a low-relief panel, modelled in 'Soft-Sculpey' clay, circular picture, commissioned by the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital. Made over 19 years ago, approximately 12" wide and 3" deep, this lives in Buxton Ward, in the Childrens ward at the N&N. 'Happisburgh Lighthouse' wire art commission for the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital. Made 19 years ago, approximately 5' wide × 4' high, this lives un the main corridor of the Jenny Lind Children's Ward. It was good to reacquaint myself with the details: an assemblage of all sorts of sardine tins, wire, plastic bits n pieces, purse clasps, fimo-clay, pan scourers, hair clips, etc, etc. Wished I'd signed it more clearly - there's only one small tin boat with my initials on, but the main thing is it's still there and hopefully enjoyed by all the passers-by. This is my local hospital! I had my last surgery here by @edprosserswiss in Nov 2022. The care and attention was A*. I seriously rate this hospital and the endo team and knowing that the trial starts here brings me HUGE hope 💛🎗️💛 The hospital has welcomed its first patient to take the antibody, with the trial aiming to monitor the effectiveness of the antibody - called AMY109. I spent this morning hearing a summary of all the recent improvements that have been made in the Norfolk and Norwich Maternity Services Department as a result of service user feedback through the Neonatal and Maternity Voices Partnership. Most of the improvements @nnuhmaternityunit were around a better induction experience, the introduction of personalised care plans and ensuring feedback from a wider spectrum of service users. Things don’t change overnight and it can sometimes be very frustrating discussing the same themes over and over but having been involved for twenty years believe me your feedback helps to influence change! Remember both good and constructive feedback is equally helpful. Yesterday's knobbly knees, surgical stockings and TOAST. Why is hospital toast so delicious? Surgery went well, active endometriosis wasn't deep and has successfully been removed, and some old endometriosis scarring was seen. I got to see images from the endoscopy which was so helpful and validating for me! I've been on the waiting list for this surgery for 76 weeks, and whilst that left me incredibly grumpy for a long time, I couldn't be happier with the treatment and support I received yesterday at the #nnuh As there wasn't loads of endometriosis, the consultant and I talked about how the majority of my symptoms are likely due to my adenomyosis, which can't be remedied with surgery ... BUT hopefully the removal of the endo tissue will mean that I'll be better able to move my body, plus the combo of getting back to cold water will continue to bring me respite! Right now I'm a happy, bruised and swollen warrior. Time to recover and rest now. 🪄 #endometriosisuk #endowarrior #laparoscopy #adenomyosis #womenshealth

Please don’t worry about calling them, they are here to help. They may invite you in to be seen or direct you to the best point of care. If you are not quite 18 weeks yet , then they also have the 24/7 helpline - MEDICOM, dedicated to Maternity in Norfolk and Waveney available from the beginning of pregnancy up until 28 days after birth. This is where a midwife can call you back, usually within the hour. 💜What is the MNVP and how can I get involved? 💜 The Maternity & Neonatal Voices Partnership (MNVP) is a working group of women, birthing people & their families, commissioners, maternity and neonatal staff who work together to review & develop local maternity & neonatal care. The MNVP is independent, working with the public & the NHS, but not FOR the NHS. Our aim is to represent the families who are cared for at NNUH, hear their experiences & objectively feed back to NNUH to improve care & ensure all voices are heard. 💜 Your Experience Matters 💜 . We are really pleased to share our surveys in collaboration with the NNUH Patient Engagement & Experience Team and NNUH Maternity. The surveys include the NHS Friends and Family test questions and some further questions to allow you to tell us more about your experiences. There are surveys for antenatal care, birth, postnatal care in the hospital and postnatal care in the community. The MNVP will regularly review the responses and identify the themes to inform service change and development as well as evaluate things that are already in place. . The MNVP is a working group of women, birthing people & their families, commissioners, & maternity service staff who work together to review & develop local maternity & neonatal care. It’s made up of parents & their families, & MNVP leads, who work together to help develop & improve local maternity & neonatal care alongside teams at the NNUH. Our leads ensure that all voices of 'service users' are heard. The MNVP is independent, working with the public & the NHS, but not directly for the NHS. The aim of the MNVP is to represent the families who are cared for under NNUH, hear their experiences, & objectively feed back to services within the NHS, to improve care & ensure that all voices are heard. . How can I help? 1. Partner with us. We recognise that not everyone feels comfortable speaking out about their experiences, so we work with partner organisations to help us represent as many voices as possible. Our partners are well supported by various hospital teams, attend our quarterly meetings, share our online survey, & discuss feedback with us. If you work with women & birthing people, & are able to support us hear their experiences, then partnering with us is a no brainer! . 2. Volunteer with us? Our volunteers collect feedback from women & birthing people who have used the maternity services at the NNUH. They attend local baby groups & events, listen to experiences & share surveys. If you are friendly & approachable, & can spare a bit of spare time to support us, this is absolutely something for you! . 3. Share your personal experience! We are always collecting feedback about personal experiences from people who are you pregnant, or have given birth in the last year. . Update!! During the Summer, actually on my birthday, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. After many tests, biopsys, scans etc I have had two operations, the first to remove the sentinal lymph node and the second operation just over a week ago was a major 9 hr surgery for a mastectomy, lymph node clearance and diep reconstruction!! I have been home for a week and Graham has been running around looking after me, very well,I hasten to add! I am not posting this for sympathy but to say a huge thank you to the massive team of health professionals, from Staithe Surgery, to NNUH; Boddicia unit, Plastics team and to all my family and dear friends who have helped me stay so positive throughout what could have been a very scary time. When you go through something like this, you certainly realise how kind people are, kind words, little messages that have meant so much. It also is so humbling to be in hospital and appreciate all of the hard work that happens to make you better and just how many professionals it takes 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. This disease is common, it doesn’t run in my family and a few months before I had a clear routine mamogram so when I had a pain walking around Lattitude I almost ignored it, thank goodness I didnt, thank goodness Staithe surgery were on the ball and referred me immediately. Thank goodness the breast care team at NNUH were so amazing, and thank goodness I have had amazing care from my consultants!! So while I could have felt low and distraught, I am actually feeling very lucky, staying positive supported by the amazing people around me, you all know who you are, thank you so very much, big hugs XXX. #breastcancer #NNUH #staithesurgery

Early Christmas present! Finally no crutches or boot needed- hurrah!! 🕺🤸💃 Thank you NNUH ❤️ I can only get these boots on, all the others that I tried are too tight- as foot still swollen. I'm walking like a toddler as my leg feels like jelly and my ankle is stiff. Not quite the words my husband used- rude! Great event at NNUH today to talk about grief during this grief awareness week 2023 on behalf of Norfolk and Waveney Mind Grief is an experience that needs to be tended, not a mallady that must be fixed or swept under the carpet, especially when that grief comes from a bereavement to suicide. We say that this type of loss is like “grief with the volume turned up” which is why I’m so incredibly proud of my team that offer support, empathy and compassion as people navigate the most unimaginably difficult time.
