The remote island of Nordstrandischmoor in The Wadden Sea is the remains of the much larger island Strand that was destroyed by a apocalyptic storm surge in oktober 1634: The Second Great Drowning. During the storm surge 6000 out of the islands population of 9000 people drowned when the dykes gave in. Some of the survivors resettled on the bogland of Nordstrandischmoor. . Seagulls and cormorants are usually my only companions when I visit the beach in the blue hour before sunrise. This morning was an unexpected exception though. Two wolves in sporty winterjackets entered the stage. Well....actually it was two Shih Tzu’s. But Shih Tzu’s are genetically one of the domestic dog breeds most closely related to wolves. That’s true! In Denmark a Shih Tzu is actually the closest you can resemble a wolf (genetically speaking) without risking being shot by poachers.
