Today we have another round of "moderately weird or offish but also not entirely bad" pictures of me from Matthew's camera roll. We got to go to the beach together a couple weekends back since the friend I was going to go with wasn't feeling great, and we saw some of the sights there are to see, including the wreck of the Peter Iredale and Forts Stevens and Columbia These last couple weeks (months? 😅) have been kind of hard on me, and any little escape is valued. I'm not going to be pretend that one trip to the Oregon Coast wiped my mind clean, but it is pretty much my favorite place. It's peaceful, I guess. You suddenly become calm ... even or perhaps especially when the weather is wild. Peace has become my greatest desire. I'm usually rather unflappable around children and animals, or when dealing with anything related to the field of writing, but I have areas where I am anything but. When alone, I'm prone to overthinking and stress. I'm unwilling for that to be the rest of my life. I've accepted that not everything is going the way I want it to go, and I wish I were taking that in my stride. I wish I were the type of person who could easily brush off disappointments without tucking them away in an unhealthy manner. I wish I was quicker to find the middle ground between apathy and agony. But I'm not. I'm a slow learner when it comes to life lessons. And in some ways, accepting that I won't be perfect any time soon is a great blessing because it enables me to say, "Well, if I keep obeying, God's going to wrap up teaching that lesson sometime before I'm 92." This is not to say I don't take personal accountability for my thoughts and feelings (and of course, I work to control my actions). Rather, I choose more and more to not beat myself up for every sign of immaturity, and I choose not to see myself as somehow CAPABLE of being perfectly mature & just choosing not to. No, I'd click the "perfectly mature" button if I could, but I can't. So instead, the goal is to focus less on how I have failed and more on how Jesus has already succeeded. May we all focus more on His goodness than our strengths OR weaknesses.

The Sand Bar at @mcmenaminsgearhart is nestled between sand dunes on the @gearhartgolflinks1892 course. You can walk there if you're not playing golf...and it's definitely worth it! God's Thumb is a 4.3 mile out-and-back hiking trail located in Lincoln City, Oregon. This popular Oregon coast hike is considered moderately challenging. The trail leads to a basalt formation known as “God’s Thumb” or “The Thumb.” The basalt formation juts out from the cliffside, offering beautiful coastal views. Hike to God’s Thumb on the Oregon Coast, and remember to leave no trace! 🥾 Accessibility: The trailhead for God’s Thumb is at the Knoll at Cascade Villages Head Trail. There's plenty of street parking along the street which ultimately ends at a cul-de-sac where the trailhead is located. The hike is 88 miles from Portland, OR. 🌲 Trail: The hiking trail via the Knoll to reach God’s Thumb is 4.3 miles and is considered a moderate hike. The trail is well-maintained and easy to navigate once reaching the Knoll. The hike has some steep sections and is a series of inclines and declines throughout the hike. 🌄Views: The spectacular views of the Oregon coast only become available at the end of the hike. The views make the hike well worth it. From the top of God’s Thumb, enjoy unobstructed views of the Oregon Coast, including Cascade Head and Lincoln City. We were lucky to have a clear day on our hike to God's Thumb. The beautiful Oregon coast views on this hike may be more limited on a cloudy and overcast day.

$7. That was too much to just go see a lighthouse, but Aimee and I are Gen Z-ers, and once you get in line as a Gen Z person, you don't turn around. You just drive up to the window and pay your $7. And yes, we were bitter about it, but goodness, Yaquina Head Lighthouse was worth it! Not so much for the lighthouse but for the beach beneath. A rock beach. Practically unheard-of in our area. Reminiscent, somehow, of England and Ireland, even though I have no idea if that's actually accurate. But goodness, it was gorgeous. It functioned both as a research trip and simply a way to relax and enjoy some clattering ocean-on-rocks noises. What unexpected surprise have you met with lately?

Don’t get (or take) the opportunity to hike much at the coast. Mostly a matter of logistics, so when a chance to do so coincided with a short visit for a few days, I went searching for a decent trek. Found a great out-and-back hike that started near sea level and climbed to a vista on Cape Perpetua, roughly 1200ft up. The day of this hike was also on the significant side, it marked a year since I was laying in the ICU. So incredibly happy to be joined by @embergreeneyes. As a business owner, social media is essential. As much as I genuinely love connecting with folks, I promise I wouldn't be here so much it it weren't part of the long-term marketing strategy. No one ever says that. Folks are always complaining about social media, but then businesses are all "I love it here!" when nothing in life is actually that polarized 😂 IG is a tool. Social media is a tool. If you're not gaining at least as much as you're putting in, I believe that's an inefficient use of time. But I know not to put all my eggs in one basket. IG is one of many tools, all of which come together to result in hundreds of inquiries each year through my website. This session from 4 years ago on the Oregon Coast is some of my best performing on Pinterest. I don't understand Pinterest all that well, but I'd encourage photographers to make better use of it. It's literally just pretty pictures on a search engine. Kinda like how IG used to be 😊 IG posts only do well if they're new content, keeping up with the times. I feel less like I'm racing against some invisible clock when I'm making marketing plans for not-IG. Anyway, I just think it's interesting. There's something about strangers still liking photos I took years ago that makes me feel less like a content factory, and more like someone sharing art 🧡
