TAKE. THE. CHANCE... ...and see what happens! If you told me 4 years ago that this is where my life was taking me... I don't know that I would have believed you. Back then, I was still teaching and dreaming of a life I had not yet created. I loved teaching, but I was looking for a new adventure... I remember my husband begging me to come with him to Connect. And out came the excuses: -who will stay with the kids? -what about the dogs? -it's going to be too expensive... -but I'll have to write SUB PLANS 😱! Reluctantly, I went with him. I felt like a fish out of water. I didn't know anyone. I felt like I didn't know anything. I was so overwhelmed. However, It wasn't long after that first Connect event that I made the decision to leave my comfort zone in the classroom & take my place as a leader. I never really considered myself the "Leader" type, but here I am killing it 🤣 I screwed up so many times. I spent long hours learning and working besides our team. I found support with my peer groups. Because I knew that I couldn't do this alone! I found out that #Leadership means making choices that might make you unpopular. I learned that a Leader never stops: modeling, learning, listening, working... I discovered that leading meant having courage to take chances. So here I am, back in Vegas for my 4th #ConnectGlobal event... thanking my husband for believing in me and in who I didn't know I was going to become. BUT the real question is: WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? Let go of your FEAR and go take that chance (except maybe not on the slot machines 🎰) And even if nobody else does- I believe in YOU & I am here to support YOU! P.S. Yes, I am drinking coffee at 4PM. Sugar Cookies! 🍪🍪🍪 My first attempt at some drop sugar cookies. The first three shots are the "control" batch. I didnt deviate from the recipe at all. The next three are at a higher temperature to try and get them thicker or puffier. They didn't really change much besides the crispier edges and darker color. The last one is "control" temperature but on parchment paper instead of a silpat mat. I have to say this is probably what I'll be using next time with possibly smaller dough balls. Overall, they taste good which is a good thing by my standards 😄. The next attempt will be soon and I'll be using a tip given by the author of the recipe to increase the flour amount. Then I'll rerun these tests again 😁. Among my passion for books and art, gardening is my sanctuary, a space where I find peace and serenity. My garden is a refuge where I'm not judged or displaced, but rather valued and cared for - perhaps, through the care I nurture my garden with, I try to cultivate self-love and tend to my own worth. Among my plants, I feel a deep sense of belonging and purpose. The hate, judgment, and segregation of the world fade away, and I'm able to forget about my depression, anxiety, and fears. For a moment, I forget that I often feel like I don't have a space where I truly belong. In my garden, I am free to be myself without masking my pain with smiles. Though my kindness comes naturally, it's hard to remember that there's a reason to keep living. My depression is strong, and despite my best efforts to keep it at bay, lately, I've struggled to find solace from the nightmares. I feel like I'm disappearing, and there's no way back. But in my garden, I am me, without apology or pretension. Gardening is my escape, and for now, my answer. May we bloom and thrive, may we weather the storms and see the sun of a new spring, and may our beauty and resilience be the light that guides us through the darkness.
