When all else fails, we still have flowers 💐 Hobart went into a snap lockdown last night, you might have heard. It’s been a strange day, but we’ve had a masked-up walk, a video call with friends, I made Tommy’s birthday cake for tomorrow, and I got some flowers delivered to support a small business that otherwise would have been stuck with loads of unsold bouquets thanks to the cancelled Salamanca market. I do hope that the #absolutecock who broke out of hotel quarantine and has now potentially caused a Covid outbreak here is happy with himself 🙄🤬 However, I am deeply grateful to be double vaxxed, and to have a cosy comfortable home that I actually love spending time in, and a husband whose company I am never sick of, despite not having a night apart since 2019 😜 my thoughts are with those who are not finding lockdown as easy, and of course my dear friends on the mainland for whom this is very old news indeed. This is Buddleja and you see it everywhere in the summer. Not just cultivated in parks but in urban areas in the UK it often self-sows on waste ground so you’ll often see it growing beside railway lines, on derelict factory sites and, in the aftermath of World War II, on urban bomb sites. It smells like honey and attracts lots of bees and butterflies, hence earning the nickname “butterfly bush”.
