Space and nature - nature in bloom - the vibrancy of the flowers - a sense of space and calm- the charm of the rough edges - living in a town you can feel hemmed in , your space can feel encroached upon by traffic noise and people - take elements of spaces you visit - be it literal or more as a source of inspiration- the places which soothe and calm your system - a colour, a plant, a feature or zone a space - in doing so we create an anchor in our space which transports us to a place and time which felt restful and healing - this is “layering resources “ - when we connect to our anchor we are resourced on a sensory level and also on an emotional and feelings level #designpsychology #mentalhealth #polyvagaltheoryintherapy #designandmentalhealth

The Safe and sound protocol is such a wonderful modality, I have helped many clients over the last year with varying challenges, I always feel so humbled and rewarded when my clients report how much better they feel after they finish the program and our sessions. 😍 the safe and sound protocol coupled with trauma informed nutritional support and mental health coaching is a beautiful therapy supporting the nervous system. As my clients listen to SSP I understand the importance of holding space and co regulating with them. The need to connect is biological. Seeking comfort from others doesn’t make you needy or too much. If your partner is unable or unwilling to offer co-regulation, it’s going to feel bad. And if you struggle to self-regulate, it’s going to feel even worse. The answer isn’t choosing one over the other. It’s learning how to support both. It’s figuring out ways to safely connect while also developing tools to self-soothe. If you’re left going, “Wtf does that mean? What does it even look like?” — schedule an intro call today. 📲 Descubre los libros #Eleftheria accediendo a nuestra web: editorialeleftheria.com/ #TeoríaPolivagal #Terapia #Polivagal #DebDana #StephenPorges #Porges #Anclados #Aplicacionesclínicas #sistemanervioso #corregulación #debdana #ejerciciospolivagales #polivagal #regulación #polyvagaltheoryintherapy #teoriapolivagalenterapia #polyvagal

My nervous system was humming last week with the beautiful weather we had … the grey drizzle today has really affected my system and I was really able to track the impact. I have felt lethargic and withdrawn all day and lacked any ventral inspiration .. the environment can have such a big impact on our nervous system and how we feel. So I have decided to embrace the dorsal rest and digest state and am finding ways to create a soothing environment for my system by lighting candles, bringing out the fluffy textures and getting cosy .. embracing the winter mood by manipulating my environment through lighting and texture to create a comforting environment for my whole system #designinterior #psychologyinteriordesign #designpsychology #environmentalpsychology #polyvagaltheoryintherapy

Repair is a process, not an event. It’s more than, “I’m sorry” and it’s felt deep in the nervous system. If you’re struggling to “get over” a breach of trust, a moment of disconnect or a major let down in your relationship, it doesn’t mean you’re stubborn or incapable of letting something go. It just means you need more repair. And you’re allowed to have that. Save or follow for more relationship help. And send to that friend who might be struggling to move forward ❤️ #sorry #repair #process #relationships #polyvagaltheoryintherapy #polyvagaltheory #nervoussystem #love

When you develop an ED, it always starts as something that feels “positive.” It is a brilliant resource developed to help us cope and survive emotional pain or protect against feelings on inadequacy or overwhelm. It’s a weapon of defensive. Until it stops working. Until it starts hurting us. Until it becomes the very thing that we now have to try to survive and overcome. As trauma informed therapists who utilize multiple externalization methods to help clients disentangle from their ED, our approach is to honor the weapon we picked up to defend it before we work on laying it down. We utilize art therapy, IFS, and parts work to navigate the painful process of healing and rising up and away from our weapons, while thanking them for their role. We believe you can find healing and transformation. *image source unknown #innerchildhealing #healingfromwithin #therapyworks #therapist #therapistsofinstagram #polyvagaltheoryintherapy #edtherapist

The amygdala hijack! The amygdala hijack refers to a rapid, overwhelming emotional response triggered by the amygdala in the brain’s limbic system (we have two- one on the right, one on the left) In moments of stress or perceived threat, the amygdala can override rational thought and decision-making, leading to impulsive reactions like fight or flight. This phenomenon highlights the brain’s innate survival mechanism, but it can also interfere with logical reasoning and emotional regulation. Swipe above for a deeper and more in depth explanation how it relates to trauma and what we can do to heal 🤍 🙋🏻‍♀️Hey, I’m Léa, a trauma and polyvagal informed coach, somatic practitioner, yoga teacher (incl breathwork) and worked in this space for 10 + years. Transparency, trust, understanding, kindness, and respect are some of the ways safety is communicated. In the absence of these traits, it’s normal for survival responses to activate. That can look like high anxiety, a desire to control, feeling disconnected or being depressed. The problem isn’t in your (in)ability to cope, it’s in your relationship with that person. So how do you fix that? That’s where I come in. Alexithymia is a personality trait characterized by difficulty in identifying and expressing emotions. While its causes are not fully understood, factors including genetics, early childhood experiences, and neurological differences are understood to play a role in this presentation. Alexithymia is estimated to affect around 10% of the population, with higher prevalence in certain conditions like autism spectrum disorder and psychosomatic illnesses. Engaging in mindfulness-based activities, such as the “let it rain” approach, can aide those struggling with Alexithymia to recognize and identify their emotions, investigate corresponding triggers, and thus, empower them to tackle their stressor(s) head-on with self-compassion and awareness. After all, without a little rain, there can be no flowers. ☔️🌸 #rain #selfregulation #mindfulness #polyvagaltheoryintherapy #dbtskills #cbtforkids #recognize #investigate #feelings #letitrain

You are more than just your brain; your whole human body is made up of magnificent, complex, and interdependent systems that impact your mental health, so it makes sense to work with a therapist who is holistic, somatic, and mindful of these interdependent systems. By respecting these complex systems, a holistic and mindful therapist can help you connect with your somatic experiences, emotions, and moods through guidance during sessions, homework assignments, and psycho-education. With guidance, you are empowered with knowledge and understanding of your whole body, especially your autonomic nervous system (ANS). Polyvagal therapists can educate you on the 3 branches of the autonomic nervous system and help you learn to recognize what state you’re currently experiencing. Practicing mindfulness of your nervous system and how your body is responding to situations, interactions, or the environment can help you turn down the volume of the loud, critical, judgmental, and shame-provoking voices within you. Flourish therapists bring polyvagal theory into their work so you can learn how to make anxiety your friend, develop emotional flexibility, and comfort distress with self-compassion.

Polyvagal Theory teaches us that our bodies have different states, like the “green zone” when we feel calm and safe, the “yellow zone” when we feel a little worried or nervous, and the “red zone” when we feel really scared or upset. Understanding the autonomic nervous system (ANS) helps us recognize our body’s reactions and learn how to regulate our emotions. #polyvagal #polyvagaltheory #polyvagalparenting #polyvagaltheoryintherapy #stevenporges #vagus #vagusnervestimulation #vagusnervehealing #internalfamilysystems #ifstherapy #trauma #traumahealing #traumarecovery #ptsd #ptsdrecovery #anxiety #mentalhealth #therapy #therapist #psychotherapist #psychotherapy #lgbtqiaplus #vagusnerveexercises #psychology #dissociation #fightorflightresponse #fear #fearresponse #neurobiology

It's the small moments in everyday life that offer us glimmers back to a calm and regulated nervous system. Glimmers are simple and often micro moment cues to our nervous system that offer us a pathway back to being feeling safe, relaxed, and connected via stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest). These are often small everyday experiences that present a moment of joy, such as viewing sunrise or sunset, spending time in nature, feeling a gentle breeze on your skin, smiling at a stranger on the street, smell of fresh flowers or cuddling a pet. When we take a moment to slow down, pause, breathe, and tune into these powerful micro moments, they can have a positive impact on our mental health and well-being. If you make repeated bids that get ignored or rejected by your partner, your nervous system will enact a survival response aimed at protection. This can look like sympathetic energy that says, “Ask for reassurance, do more, try harder” (which can land as needy or clingy to the other person) OR your system might send you in to collapse. It tells you, “Pull away, take care of it yourself, and stop asking for help.” While both responses are appropriate and adaptive biologically, they aren’t helpful long-term for fostering connection and getting needs met. They don’t support feeling valued as a partner. Do you struggle to make bids? Are worried your needs won’t get met? Have you experienced your efforts to connect getting rejected? I can help you gain skills to communicate your needs, respond effectively if/when your bids get ignored, and increase meaningful connection with your partner.
