Some basic etiquette. Share it with everyone you know. Set rules in place. People don’t know how to behave when you are postpartum. We are wildly British about it all. No one wants to make anyone uncomfortable and as such we end up missing cues, not saying what we mean, and generally wishing we had asked for more from people around us in our postpartum period. Equally people visiting don’t know what the parameters are for them. Will you be offended if they empty your dishwasher, is it implying you aren’t coping. They second guess themselves, no one wants to offend or over step. But really what we all need is fed. A cuddle. To have less housework to do. Maybe a cry on the visitor if it’s been A DAY. And to have some chance of scene for everyone. Another plea to make a clear and easy to follow postpartum plan. Because it really sets out the expectations for our visitors. And that can’t be a bad thing. The new parents are in charge of their postpartum, main character energy. Everyone else is the supporting act. That’s what you visit for. Not to hold a baby. 10 days till graduation!! 🎓So much has brought me here & I’m so grateful. Enlisting in the military at 17 to help pay for college, graduating high school a semester early so I could start school on time, earning $43,100 of merit-based scholarships, applying for tons of scholarships every semester, over 500 hours of clinicals, dozens of hours in the nursing lab, planning a wedding during my senior year, stressing every semester how I’m going to pay for my own school, getting over my fear of blood (& subsequently passing out), driving 12 hours every month for drill weekends (oftentimes studying places like the shooting range), thousands of hours of studying, being almost 8 months pregnant (running out of exams to throw up then coming back to finish), passing a comprehensive exam covering the last 3 years of nursing school… and I’m finally graduating!! In the spirit of maternal mental health week and the gorgeous theme, let’s talk about the rediscovering of your body. Which has undoubtedly changed. Undoubtably has more marks, is a new shape and has widened and come back together again. My own journey with my body in pregnancy was hard and it’s continued to be so. And so much of ourself and our opinions of ourself, and I guess by proxy our mental health is tied in how we look. How we feel about our bodies. I am still rediscovering myself. And the changes that have happened to me. There are still bits I don’t like. But rediscovery is beautiful. And so is your postpartum body. You were a home. You are a home. For someone else. And indeed for yourself. That’s both an honour and a huge responsibility. Be kind to yourself. You are forever a work in progress. And rediscovering yourself is really really magical. I can tell you that with confidence. Felt ALLLLL the love last week. 🥰 My sweet friend @jackiecrane08 threw the cutest little “sprinkle” for this baby boy and I with some friends from church. She always goes above and beyond! We made our own Mediterranean bowls and had the BEST dessert. Love these girls so much. 🤍 I’m currently 30 weeks, 2 days! 😱 April and May are always our busiest months with sports which has made this pregnancy just fly by. I’m still feeling great! Definitely get that pitting edema around my cankles after my 12 hour shifts in the ED. Varicose veins are still poppin, but not too painful. I miss sleeping on my back, but thankful for Treys squishmallow that I can put between my legs to sleep on my side. 😆 I got to see baby boy yesterday on an ultrasound and he’s BREECH. They tell me I still have time for him to flip…but that’s what they said with Trey and he never did lol! Best quote this week: Trey - “Mom, you don’t even look fat. You just look pregnant! Like, you just have a big belly………well….maybe a little in your thighs too.” 😂😂😂😂😂 Curtis and I almost fell to the floor laughing. #kidssaythedarndestthings #30weekspregnant
