Around a year ago I took this after we’d just finished our first run of our last show at drama school. My last scene had a very emotional monologue so I came off already a little weepy. We've performed our extraordinary show three times to audiences who, judging by their reactions and reviews, were moved and delighted in equal measure; we've struck the set, packed costumes, and cleaned dressing rooms. It's really over. I have an Anna-shaped hole in me now. I will miss this complex, passionate and emotionally honest woman. I'll also miss the amazing people I got to perform this with - not least my wonderful Vronsky! It's 12.50am, I'm eating a rubbish supermarket meal by candlelight, trying to wind down, because I got back a little while ago from a tech rehearsal that I arrived for just after 6pm. Tech rehearsals are pretty much always long, but I'm one of the minority that actually enjoys them. I love seeing the details of the show coming together: seeing how the lights, the smoke, the sound effects and the live music all enhance everything we've been working on for the last three and a half months. This is without a doubt the most phenomenal play I've ever had the opportunity to take part in - to have the lead, and to be going on this incredible creative journey with such an amazing, talented bunch of people has blown my mind. Quite simply, I will never have another part like this again, or an experience like this. A wonderful part in an incredibly moving story, a passionate director with clarity of vision, ably assisted by someone I go back with more than 25 years and trust implicitly, a talented cast, incredible musicians, skilful and artistic lighting and sound design, gorgeous costumes, a backstage crew so on it, so supportive and so friendly.... I am immeasurably grateful. I really do hope that anyone undecided about whether to come will take the plunge and get their tickets.
