One final book, and I will have read all of Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot books. Just one more book, and I will have achieved my goal. On one hand I'm devastated that they'll never be a time when I pick up a Poirot story for the first time, yet on the other hand I'm simply glad that I've followed this the whole way through and have thoroughly enjoyed doing so. I'm not going to talk about each book individually, all of them have been fantastic and I'm still to guess the murderer correctly. Peril at End House - Agatha Christie ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ It’s a rainy Saturday and it wasn’t a great work week so indulged in a comfort read. A women escapes death a few times the last being in the presence of Hercule Poirot. Fearing her life is in imminent danger Poirot and Hastings take her under their protection whilst trying to solve the mystery of who wants to harm her. I read this in one sitting as it moves along at a rapid pace. The dialogue sparkles and the plot throws more than one red herring. I never try to work out the culprit as I enjoy being surprised & the misdirection and twist was very clever. Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This was my first Christie novel. It is a perfect book for a cozy evening. Needless to mention, Christie mysteries are timeless and fascinating. It is so beautifully crafted that it keeps you on your toes throughout. It has a stunning premise, compelling characters and such clever twists. Set aboard the luxurious train, the story follows the famous detective Hercule Poirot as he investigates a murder that occurs during the journey. I was a little skeptical as to whether I'll be able to understand the 1900s British novelist but I have never been so wrong. Maintaining the balance of absolutely gorgeous writing is clearly a no stranger to her. Whether they’ll be able to find the attempted killer before she’s found dead is down to Poirot with the help of Hastings… This is a classic. It’s well written (of course) and the plot is really incredible. What Christie does with this one has similar notes of The murder of Roger Ackroyd, and is very clever in doing so. Mais pour Hercule Poirot, le crime ne peut rester impuni et il va donc tenter le tout pour le tout, et tout mettre en œuvre pour arrêter ses dangereux criminels. 📘MON AVIS : Je vais l'avouer sans détour, cette nouvelle enquête d'Hercule Poirot est la meilleure que j'ai lu depuis que j'ai commencé la lecture des œuvres de la Reine du Crime. Dès les premières pages, j'ai été totalement embarqué dans l'histoire digne des plus grandes aventures d'espionnage. Le grand et célèbre Hercule Poirot va utiliser ses fameuses petites cellules grises afin de mettre en déroute une dangereuse association de malfaiteurs. Notre petit détective belge est fidèle à lui-même : arrogant au possible, mais d'une intelligence redoutable. Le rythme du roman est haletant, extrêmement addictif et oppressant au possible. J'ai plusieurs fois retenu mon souffle lors de ma lecture. Už dlouho se mi nestalo, že bych do konce knihy nevěděla, kdo je vrah. Recenze- tady spojení těchto dvou autorů oceňuji. Evidentně jim to funguje. Tak trochu švédská #agathachristie , kdy vyšetřovatel se podobá oblíbenému #herculepoirot . Jeho nová kolegyně, je gendrovým vyvážením, jak si to dnešní doba žádá. Kompletní charakteristika postav je velmi zdařilá a hned víte, kdo je potvora protivná. Těmhle dvěma věřím úplně všechno. A o to víc mě těší, že ani jeden z nich není zoufalý vyšetřovatel- alkoholik. Trochu bych snížila hodnocení za popis oblasti, to mi tam trochu chybělo, pro barvitost. Ale tak třeba s tím pohnou v dalším díle. Takže asi takhle. Krásný skoroléto na severu, vražda(y), spousta podezřelých. Není to krvák, ale příjemná detektivka. It takes you on a ride with Detective Hercule Poirot questioning each passenger on the train. 🚂 As the story progresses, it gets more confusing because you can not suspect anyone! It keeps you hooked, and the suspense keeps building up as you read further. The unexpected ending!🤯 I seriously did not even have the slightest idea😂 I'm not a big fan of slow burn novels because it really tests my patience😂 (I'm a very impatient person). But I really had an amazing time reading this one. I'm reading more books by Agatha Christie soon!

✨ #flatlayfriday ✨ Agatha Christie was my go-to author after I finished all the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew books and before I got serious about Stephen King. The grand dame of mystery, the Queen of Crime, Christie’s novels spanned decades (20’s-70’s) and she is widely regarded as one of the greatest writers of all time and is the best-selling author of all time with her novels selling more than 2 billion copies. Her most famous creations are detectives Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple, who incidentally never worked together. These books shown are mostly Poirot books. I believe I got these at a yard sale when I was a kid—someone was getting rid of a box-full. I also have several of her books that don’t have covers, which is the bane of my existence but when I was young I just wanted to read them, I didn’t care. Probably something like ten cents a book at a yard sale back then! These ones are all mid-60’s editions and when new were between 35-50 cents! All are US editions, some have alternate titles in the UK. I think my favorite thing about these are the old covers. Aussi bizarre, d'ailleurs, que l'entêtement d'Inglethorp à ne pas lever le petit doigt pour réfuter les charges qui s'accumulent contre lui. C'est vrai qu'Inglethorp n'est pas le seul à bénéficier de cette mort ni le seul qui ait eu l'occasion de se procurer la strychnine qui l'a provoquée. Il y a aussi les beaux-fils de la victime, John Cavendish et son frère Laurence ; il y a Mary, l'épouse de John, et Cynthia, la protégée de la défunte. Et c'est vrai aussi qu'on n'a trouvé aucun indice permettant de passer la corde au cou du coupable, ce qui ne veut pas dire que ces indices n'existent pas. D'un feu allumé en plein été, d'une empreinte dans une plate-bande et d'une tache de café, Hercule Poirot va tirer ce qui manque à la police officielle : les aveux du meurtrier et la solution de cette mystérieuse affaire de Styles qui est la toute première œuvre d'Agatha Christie (publiée en 1920) et l'une des plus astucieuses énigmes de ce maître du genre. 🕵️Mon avis : Après avoir lu ma dernière enquête de Poirot, il me fallait revenir aux sources, la première, histoire de boucler la boucle (un peu à l' envers). Dès ce premier roman, Poirot apparaît comme terriblement imbu et condescendant au possible envers ce pauvre Hastings, pas toujours bien malin, certes, mais touchant de candeur et de naïveté. Leur duo est posé. Même si ce ne sera pas mon Agatha Christie préféré, j' y ai retrouvé tous les ingrédients que j' aime : l' atmosphère so british, des personnages bien campés, et bien sûr.... Je me suis encore fait berner ! As it’s April, it means a new theme for #readchristie2024 We’re working our way through the decades so for this month, you just need to read a book published in the 1930s. I decided not to go for the official pick There are lots of titles to choose from so I decided to go for one I hadn’t read in ages. This one has a particularly interesting premise as Poirot must crack the case BEFORE a murder is committed. The traditional whodunnit mystery is back to front, and Poirot must solve the case before there is a body. I thought this was a really fun, and inventive twist on a murder mystery. Stories that feature both Poirot and Hastings are always enjoyable - although I forgot how savage Poirot can be towards his friend. I see them as a squabbling old couple😂 The solution to this mystery was quite ingenious; if you haven’t read this book before then you’re in for a treat. Ultimately, as long as you read any book published in the 1930s, you’re good to go. Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie 3/5 Being familiar with the gist of the story from seeing the recent film and several live stagings of the show, I wasn't kept at the edge of my seat as much as I should have been. The knowledge of certain major plot points combined with the verbose and sometimes slow feeling story made this a little hard to get into. There are a lot of characters and they're mostly very flat. However, there were lots of twists and turns in this book unique to itself and a fair amount of weirdness to go along with it, and the ending was a thoroughly enjoyable rollercoaster that really made up for its previous slow pace. Finally finished reading Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie! Took me longer than I wanted it to, but life was a little crazy. I’ve seen the movie 1.5x, and I have to say that this was the mystery that got me hooked on mysteries- which my current project is! It was about time I read the original- AND IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT! I finished it an hour or so ago, and I’m still misty-eyed from the beautiful ending. I’d say that the book is (unsurprisingly) better than the movie- which is already spectacular. I liked this version of M. Bouc much more, and I enjoyed the fact that Dr. Constantine was in this version. Agatha Christie e il mistero della sua scomparsa di Jared Cade edito da @giulioperroneditore 2019, €18,00. ✒️Ho imparato a conoscere Zia Agatha ( 1891- 1976) attraverso alcuni libri letti in un lontano passato, ma non avevo approfondito la sua vita, soprattutto il mistero della sua scomparsa. Ho rimediato con questo saggio biografico, quasi un reportage con testimonianze di prima mano, documenti e foto inedite, che fa luce sugli 11 giorni di dicembre del 1926, in cui la scrittrice britannica esce di casa, si allontana da Styles e fa perdere le sue tracce. È a dir poco ammirevole se penso che la più grande scrittrice di gialli di tutti i tempi e la più tradotta al mondo, sia diventata protagonista di una sua storia, una fuga pontificata nei minimi dettagli: viene spontaneo chiedersi dove finisca la realtà e dove inizi la finzione. Donna enigmatica e passionale, moglie tradita e umiliata, ma mente geniale nell'architettare la sua fuga, si è registrata con il nome dell'amante del marito, Nancy Neele, presso l'Hotel Harrogate Hydro vessando proprio lui, Archie, che si sarebbe angosciato per la sua scomparsa. Decisa a fargli pagare la sua infedeltà, non sapeva di aver innescato una delle indagini più seguite dalla stampa e dal pubblico... A Jared Cade, che ha scritto questa acclamata biografia, è stato concesso di accedere a diari, corrispondenze, documenti privati da parte di famigliari e amici, affinché potesse ricostruire fedelmente la sua scomparsa e raccontare la sua vita privata.
