actual photo of me celebrating returning to the necropolis today to wander most of the rest of it with my camera with no rain and only a light breeze. i didn’t make it up there while the blue skies were still around because i had arranged to meet @mrfly3oy for a paid gig: he paid me to watch him eat while i talked at him (hahaha or so he would have had one of the wait staff believe who, hilariously, claimed they knew a word for that particular fetish! way to commit to a joke!) but i did capture the blue skies and sunshine in photos of glasgow city taken with my d700 and some photos i’ll share shortly from my hotel room. john would have you believe he brought the sunshine with him from dundee, but it arrived a good four and a half hours before he did and it stayed on after he left, though tomorrow is looking dire, weatherwise. considering we only met over the course of maybe a week almost exactly 13 years ago at hospitalfield in arbroath where he was directing a short film and i was undertaking a residency, and since then, we’ve just been in contact through fb, we nattered easily about all manner of things in the two-ish hours we caught up (far less time than it took him to drive across and back!), though mostly about politics. i’m glad i thought to message him (albeit quite last minute) to see if he was free for a catch-up during my visit. #grave #statue #woman #headstone #inscription #death #sepulchre #glasgownecropolis #necropolis #glasgow #scotland #latergram

me finally admitting defeat and that the rain had won i managed to wander about 1/4 (i think) of the necropolis before finally giving in and walking back into town because the rain had graduated from drizzle and wasn’t showing any sign of abating. i wasn’t fussed about getting a bit wet, but had put up my umbrella to minimise the raindrops on my camera lens (well, actually, the UV filter i always have on it) and how many times i had to clean them off with the cuff of my jumper. the umbrella was fine when i was walking around, but a hindrance whenever i tried to take a photo, as there were sudden gusts threatening to lift it from my hands and a risk of me dropping my camera in my attempts to stop it taking off. eventually, i had to acknowledge it wasn’t practical. of course, as soon as I returned to street level, it let up for a bit, but not enough and not long enough to venture back up or even take my camera out to capture things on my walk to goma. if the weather allows tomorrow, I’ll venture back up and return to town the same way i did today, as there were so many things i had wanted to capture. #grave #statue #mourning #death #sepulchre #glasgownecropolis #necropolis #cemetery #glasgow #scotland #latergram

City of the Dead Before the rise of the Roman Republic, the Etruscans were the dominant power in Italy. Their land, Etruria, stretched from the northern banks of the Tiber to the southern banks of the Arno. These incredible burial mounds are Etruscan tombs, part of a vast necropolis where the people of Caere - one of Etruria's most prosperous cities - were laid to rest. Italy is a land of historical marvels, but this necropolis is truly awe-inspiring. To call it a city of the dead is no exaggeration. There are thousands of tombs, with literal streets wending between them. Some of the earlier tombs are simple sepulchres carved out of the living rock, but most are tumuli like these. The burial chambers within these tumuli are built like homes. Passing through the dark threshold, one finds themself in a central hall. Other doorways open up, leading into smaller rooms that resemble bed chambers. Upon beds of stone, the dead were laid to rest. Over generations, families would return to these tombs so that kin could rest beside kin. It all feels eerily peaceful. Aproveitando o dia Internacional da Mulher, gostaria de compartilhar estes registros e esta história: Este túmulo guarda os restos mortais de Moacyr Pizza, influente Jornalista durante a decada de 1920, no estado de São Paulo e Assassino Suicid4 de Nenê Romano, conhecida cortesã na mesma época. A obra que adorna o sepulcro, intitulada "A interrogação" foi esculpida na intenção de representar a grande dúvida do por quê Moacyr tivera matado Nenê Romano, seu ex afeto,por tê-lo rejeitado e em seguida tirado sua própria vida dentro de um taxi na capital paulista. Durante muito tempo, Nenê foi culpabilizada pela sociedade na época por sua morte e por ter levado Moacyr à este ato atroz. A sensibilização da sociedade com a morte do assassino foi tão grande ao ponto de esquecer totalmente a perda da da moça. Seu sepultamento foi neglienciado, sua história quase foi perdida, assim como seu corpo que não se tem mais localização. Mais uma mulher bonita, jovem e de espirito livre que decidiu não mais se relacionar com alguém e que teve sua vida encerrada, não só pelo homem que puxou aquele gatilho, mas também pela socieadade patriarcal que tentou transformá-la na vilã, quando na verdade foi vítima. The fourteenth station, Jesus is Laid in the Sepulchre. Jesus is the person the prophet Isaiah mentioned in his book, chapter 53 (in comment 5 below). But so many slanders have been made against Him and His mother that many people reject Him and live in darkness (Jesus is the light of the world - see in comment 7, Isaiah prophecy about Jesus' coming). Also His name in Hebrew is Jeschua meaning God Saves but they turn His name into Jeschu referring to their hate of Him, "may his name and memory be deleted ". This deceit has been passed by their teachers from one generation to the next for the last 1500 years, making them far from God's promise to Abraham "your descendants will be blessing for all nations". (Genesis 22:18) ref16 below. Jesus says to Pilate that His kingdom is not from the world (pls see comment 9) Jesus is God in the form of man (He is the second person in God the Holy Trinity, He is the living Word of God, beside God the Father and the Holy Spirit).In Genesis 1 w can see God calls Himself in the plural form not one time but three (3) times, Let US... (reference below).Also God showed Himself in the form of three (3) men (Genesis 18). Check out comment 6. Unortunately many people desire to have a man who is like and act God instead of God Himself. They are waiting for the soon coming antiChrist who will reign for just a short time. Jesus had us in mind when He picked up the cross with His extremely exhausted and weakened body (due to hunger and flagellation - whipping He had gone through). He wanted to save us sinners from the eternal punishment we all deserve. He is God's innocent and perfect sacrifice - God has loved us so much that He even sent His Son to save us. King David in several of his psalms writes about Him (comment 7 below) . Women of Jerusalem cried over Jesus, watching Him being tortured and so exhausted in carrying His cross. Jesus however mentioned to them to cry over their children for He knew that bad teachers would come and (1)....

The knight dreaming the peaceful dream of death is called Ramon Folch de Cardona-Anglesola. However, his life was much less peaceful than his afterlife. Born in Bellpuig in 1467, during his military career, he took part in the Italian wars commanded by Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba and the military campaigns in Northern Africa. His life was especially tied to Italy, where he served as viceroy of Sicily and Naples. He died in 1522 at the age of 55. His wife, Isabel de Requesens, known for her beauty, was only 25 or 26 years old, and she had been portrayed four years earlier by Raphael Sanzio. It was her idea to commission Giovanni da Nola for the sepulcher and effigy of Ramon. It was sculpted in Carrara marble in Naples, and it depicts, not only Ramon de Cardona’s eternal rest, but also scenes of his life in the turbulent and violent Europe of the early late 15th and early 16th centuries (photo 2). The monument, along with Ramon’s body, was transported to his birthplace Bellpuig, where it was installed in the convent of San Bartolome and later moved to its current location, the church of San Nicolas. . St James the Ascetic Saint of the Day January 28th . James misspent his youth. And then he misspent his adulthood. But after a while he got fed up with a life of pleasure - he cast aside worldly things and went to live in a cave on Mount Carmel. There he received many visitors seeking his advice and his exorcising skills but also some wishing to lead him into temptation. James’s new found goodness was a little erratic and a situation developed with a woman which, to cut a long story short, ended up with James regrettably murdering two people. You would think that any chance of sainthood would be out the window but James confessed to another hermit and designed an appropriate penance. He spent the rest of his days living in a horrible abandoned tomb to make up for what he had done. . James is the subject of Edith Wharton’s story ‘The Hermit and the Wild Woman,’ in which the hermit is a thinly disguised portrait of another James - Henry James. . The little princess between her parents on a monument also adorned with a griffin and a lion. The Griffin and the Lion in bronze is standing on a socalled “Tumba”, a kind of memorial tomb (the first of its kind in Denmark) with the corpses inside and figures on top in high relief bronze. Though I think that this one has some highly restored parts. The man is King Christoffer the II who died in 1332 and his wife Queen Eufemia of Pomerania. The lion and the griffin was part of their coat of arms and are seen too on the decorative parts of the Queens dress. I don‘t know what the little princess is called. Some confusion here, whether it was to supposed to be King Valdemar the Great, his wife Queen Helvig and their daughter the later Queen Margrethe I who is resting here. But …🤷♀️
