It has been an absolutely gorgeous day again today. What's going on? The weather does know it's a bank holiday... well, it was nice while it lasted. Tomorrow is set to be a traditional UK holiday 🌧 🤣 Anyway, we have been busy cutting the grass in one of the fields, this is where we planted 50 trees last year. This field is next to a river, so the trees work hard to stop it from becoming too boggy in the winter. So we need to keep the grass in check while they settle in. My Raspberry bush, nestled in a fabric growing bag, sprouted some offshoots amidst the cracks. I love colour, but there’s something so calming and peaceful about greens and neutrals. Hanging out yesterday evening in the garden. 💐 Walking out to check on the new pollinator bed, I saw the tricolor beech had *finally* unfurled its leaves. This tree is a super slow grower. It takes forever to leaf out (I’m impatient!) All is easily forgiven because it’s a *gorgeous* tree (“gorgeous” spoken like Joanna Lumley.) In the last few years the branches have begun to take on a weeping form. Aside from the tree distraction, the pollinator bed filled in well. Looking back at my notes – I’m so glad I wrote this stuff down – a good number of plants returning! 📖 Speedwell, phlox, bee balm, hummingbird mint are just a few of the newly planted things coming back to life. It’s exciting to watch and refer back to my chart (pictured.) Being super duper excited about how my newest notecard samples looked, I’ve been eager to collect more blooms to create another “bouquet in a basket” option. Those wrap around, so there’s image on both the front and back of the cards. They came out beautifully. It’s been fun watching every garden bed here fill in this spring, and now it’s changing over already! Tulips fading, ranunculus coming in. Bearded iris *finally* flowering, alliums up straight and tall like toy soldiers. It’s pretty rad. 💚🌱 Wherever you are, what do you see going on in the world around you? Hello! We had a beautiful morning in the garden today. It was good to be out there after a weekend spent mostly indoors with lots of naps 🌧 My plan for the garden this year is to not buy much and instead save up for a landscaper to help with a couple of bits, including laying a patio. My favourite daffodil is a Narcissus Poeticus, also know as the Pheasants eye, I love how delicate they are, and that beautiful ring of red around the pale yellow corona that gives them their name. As anyone who's followed me for a while will know, I had three peonies for several years which between them produced just a single flower every year (one amazing year I had two flowers!). After three years waiting for more I gave up and this spring I replaced them. I ordered two peonies, but the seller sent an extra one free. It may not be very warm outside but all the rain we’ve had has made the garden very lush and the borders are filling out nicely. The tulips are at their best ..
