👩‍🎤🪧 “WOMBS ON STRIKE” by @kristinaborg02 is a powerful soundscape inspired by conversations with eight women from Malta and Spain aged 30-45 who chose not to have children. These women challenge the stereotype of women as mothers, facing social stigma and taboo. In her work, Kristina explores their experiences, turning shame into resistance and sparking discussions on diverse life choices and striving for equality 💪❤️ In the exhibition held in Malta, Kristina’s work was placed between the two founding wheels on site ✨ 👩‍🎤🪧 “ÚTERS EN VAGA” de Kristina Borg, es un potent paisatge sonor inspirat en converses amb vuit dones de Malta i Espanya que van triar no tenir fills. A lot of Madagascar women in poverty feel ashamed to seek medical help during childbirth, leading to avoidable health risks and complications. Cultural and social stigmas surround childbirth and women's health in the country, and there is a need for improved access to maternal healthcare services and awareness campaigns to break down barriers to seeking assistance. #RagPickers form an integral yet marginalised segment of society, silently shouldering the weight of #urbanwastemanagement systems across the globe. Despite their indispensable role in #recycling and waste collection, rag pickers face challenges rooted in #socialstigma and hazardous #workingconditions. On International #LabourDay, ActionAid Association shares “A Workers’ Agenda for Just Futures” that delineates the need for a paradigm shift towards formalising the work of rag pickers, offering #socialsecurity measures, and fostering #inclusivity within waste management frameworks. #artistinresidence So happy that @paulina_siniatkina spent the month of April at our artist residency @kombinat.studiospace @spinnereileipzig. During her stay @paulina_siniatkina created a piece called 'Sanatorium' (acrylic on canvas 220 x 140 cm), her first visual reflection after visiting and researching Beelitz - Heilstätten, an old tuberculosis sanatorium near Berlin. Paulina has dreamt of visiting this place long ago as it relates to her main practice: she as a tuberculosis survivor herself works with collective trauma and social stigma associated with disease. Through exploring @beelitzerheilstaetten.official she hopes to create a dialogue of the past with the present: exploring the role of time in healing after surviving catastrophic events. 📸@paulina_siniatkina We were thrilled to exhibit all together at the SPRING RUNDGANG @spinnereileipzig CHECK OUT HER WORK👇👇👇 https://www.paulinasiniatkina.com #artandactivism #activistart #paulinasiniatkina #kombinat #kombinatev #halle14 #halle14_zentrum_für_zeitgenössische_kunst #spinnerei #spinnereileipzig #baumwollspinnerei #exhibition #presentation #workinprogress #art #contemporaryart #contemporarysculpture #artistinresidence #studio #artstudio #artist #artisttalk #leipzigart #artleipzig #leipzig #beelitzheilstatten #socialstigma

I am 1 in 4 🙋🏻‍♀️ . I was waiting till Mother’s Day to share this but it’s so fitting to announce my recent missed (silent) miscarriage during National Infertility Awareness Week! . At my 12-week ultrasound I found out the baby had already stopped growing before the 10 week mark meaning it has been squatting rent free for more than 3 weeks now. Initially I was shocked and annoyed in disbelief more so for the amount of testing I went through (including a recent NIPT that showed everything was normal) and money spent on IVF via donor sperm. BUT as someone with a background in neurosciences I was already educated in how common miscarriages are and wasn’t afriad to announce my pregnancy to friends 8 days after my embryo transfer knowing that I wouldn’t have any problem back tracking on my words when that day comes and it did! I’m so glad I shared my pregnancy early on with so many people because that also meant I received so much love and care from the same friends to help make the grieving period short and almost inexistent. . I had a very non-eventful pregnancy to the point I felt guilty for feeling so good and was always wondering if I am still pregnant after hearing the heartbeat at the 6-week mark. My body never reacted much to the hormones but it also failed to recognize the miscarriage as well which meant I never had a bond with this fetus inside me to feel sad. Staying present is my best advice for getting over a loss because most often times we grieve over the would haves and the could have beens but all those things are made up in our heads and hasn’t even happened yet (ie. you’re picturing your kid in all the clothes you got). One can grieve for as long as they want and need to but I was surprised at how fast my body started bouncing back to pre-pregnancy state the moment I accepted mentally that the bb is gone. . [A Slice of Pizza, A Dash of Diversity: Breaking Stereotypes in Cinema] Highlight Recap Prepared by our EOSA, the event on stigmatisation of psychopathology in cinemas last Friday (April 19, 2024) provided a little escape from the pre-exam period for students and staff. To show both stigmatised and realistic representations of some mental disorders as examples of comparisons, iconic movie clips were played while the participants were enjoying pizza, popcorn and donuts. After the screening, the participants had a little interactive game to revise the key concepts. Our EOSA then joined the groups to facilitate further discussion. The event received many positive feedback. We hope to see you in similar events in the future! #Cinema #HKU #BreakingStereotypes #Psychopathology #SocialStigma #StudentActivity #TGIF

Heather C. Jarvis, a former inmate at the Ohio Reformatory for Women, represents a growing population of incarcerated women in the United States, which has surged by over 500% since 1980. Released after nearly a decade behind bars, Jarvis's journey illustrates the challenges faced by women reintegrating into society, especially those with children. Despite completing programs and earning a degree while incarcerated, societal stigma and legal barriers complicate her reentry. Jarvis's experience highlights the need for comprehensive support systems for formerly incarcerated women, as they navigate the complexities of rebuilding their lives and overcoming systemic obstacles. #IncarceratedWomen #ReintegrationChallenges #PrisonReform #SupportSystems #FormerlyIncarcerated #LegalBarriers #SocialStigma #WomenInJustice #ReentryJourney #SystemicObstacles #ReformAdvocacy #CriminalJusticeReform #GenderJustice #SecondChance

The double empathy problem highlights the mutual understanding challenges between individuals with different neurological makeups. It asserts that empathy isn't inherently lacking in autistic individuals but is distinct due to their unique experiences and interactions within the social environment. Autistic individuals perceive the world through a distinctive social lens, often focusing intensely on details yet struggling with broader social cues and conventions. Empathy itself is a spectrum, with autistic individuals expressing it differently, often through commitment to interests or practical support rather than conventional gestures. Being on the receiving end of dominant social norms, autistic individuals face unintentional exclusion and stigmatisation, deepening the empathy gap. Neurotypical individuals, meanwhile, encounter communication barriers and misconceptions about autistic behaviour and empathy capacities. Understanding this problem is crucial for fostering inclusive interactions. It involves recognizing diverse expressions of empathy and embracing differences to bridge divides and cultivate a more compassionate society. #doubleempathyproblem #autismawareness #neurodiversity #empathygap #inclusion #communicationbarriers #understandingautism #socialstigma

What is Epilepsy Epilepsy is a chronic noncommunicable disease of the Brain that affects around 50 million people worldwide. It is characterized by recurrent Seizures, which are brief episodes of involuntary movement that may involve a part of the body (partial) or the entire body (generalized) and are sometimes accompanied by loss of consciousness and control of bowel or bladder function. Seizure episodes are a result of excessive electrical discharges in a group of brain cells. Different parts of the brain can be the site of such discharges. Seizures can vary from the briefest lapses of attention or muscle jerks to severe and prolonged convulsions. Seizures can also vary in frequency, from less than one per year to several per day. One seizure does not signify epilepsy (up to 10% of people worldwide have one seizure during their lifetime). Epilepsy is defined as having two or more unprovoked seizures. Epilepsy is one of the world’s oldest recognized conditions, with written records dating back to 4000 BCE. Fear, misunderstanding, discrimination and social stigma have surrounded Epilepsy for centuries. This stigma continues in many countries today and can impact on the quality of life for people with the disease and their families. ------------------------------------------- to watch Complete Video to treat Epilepsy Click here 👇👇 https://youtu.be/vdtWN8Fh6JQ?si=k0j8WUB4zMwrFu9h Click below to Subscribe for more videos👇👇 https://youtube.com/@healthěandwellness107?si=ZRGHvkSICieaInBT ------------------------------------------- #trending #trickshots #fear #socialstigma #braincells #braindisease #epilepsy #épilepsie #epilepsia #seizure #epilepticseizures #seizuredisorder #neurologicaldisease #lossofconsciousness #epilepsy #epilepsia #endstigma #epilepsywarrior #epilepsyfighter #epilepsysupport #epilepsyday #march26 #purpleday #purpleribbon #goodbyeepilepsy #stampoutseizures #epilepsyawareness #internationalepilepsyday #healthandwellness107 #healthandhealthyliving

Did you know these facts men face when it comes to anxiety? Plus check out our new you are more than your anxiety t-shirt! Link in bio!! 1. **Prevalence**: Anxiety disorders are common among men, although they may be less likely to seek help compared to women. Studies suggest that societal expectations of masculinity can contribute to men underreporting or masking their symptoms. 2. **Symptom Presentation**: Men often experience anxiety differently than women. While both genders may exhibit symptoms like restlessness, irritability, and difficulty concentrating, men might also manifest anxiety through physical symptoms such as headaches, muscle tension, or substance abuse. 3. **Social Stigma**: Traditional gender roles can create stigma around mental health issues for men, leading to reluctance in seeking support. Fear of being perceived as weak or vulnerable can prevent men from opening up about their feelings or seeking professional help, prolonging their suffering. 4. **Comorbidity with other conditions**: Anxiety disorders frequently coexist with other mental health conditions such as depression or substance abuse in men. Addressing these comorbidities comprehensively is crucial for effective treatment and long-term management. 5. **Barriers to Treatment**: Men may face unique barriers to accessing mental health services, including concerns about cost, time, or the perceived effectiveness of therapy. Tailored approaches that acknowledge and address these barriers can improve engagement and outcomes for men with anxiety disorders. #ownmyconfidence #socialstigma #mensstyle #menstigmaofmentalhealth #menshealthawareness #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #menanxiety
