we had horrible cold weather with strong winds and rain, but fortunately nothing died because of it, not even seedlings I had outside. everything is instead very, very dirty and I don't even know why. I'm guessing the wind. 🌱 verbena continued to flower through the cold and is prettier than ever! 🌱 salvia has started to open up too and it's such a beautiful purple 🌱 the white lavender is getting closer! 🌱 clematis keeps going but it's still more bushy on the bottom than on top. I'm hoping the warm weather will help her find her way up. 🌱 jasmine has survived the wind almost intact and has made some new foliage 🌱 I have two nasturtiums that are very pretty and are getting very bushy 🌱 the blubs are tiny still and I'm thinking I should've started with a smaller pot, but oh well. maybe by the end of summer they'll grow more. 🌱 marigolds have buds and I can't wait for them to open 💕 🌱 spirea vanhouttei is starting to drop her petals in the wind, but it's still cute to look at. I love the droopy stems on her. 🌱 spirea japonica on the other hand is struggling and I don't know how I can help her. I moved her to a sunnier spot (if we'll ever get sun again!) and I hope it helps. she has buds and I hope I'll see her bloom at least once. balcony updates 🌱 🌱 this weekend was very busy in the garden: - I've repotted my carex prairie fire 🔥 it's growing so nicely and it was a bit root bound. - I've repotted my primulas (again, poor things!) I don't know if I'll try to overwinter them or not, but for now I'll still take care of them.. if they survive the heat first. - I've tried putting my salad in the sun but she hated it so she's back to the shadiest corner. - I used to keep my hydrangea where she gets a lot of morning sun but she was upset so I moved her to a shadier spot and she's much happier 💕 🩵 - I've repotted my scabiosas and they're super happy about it! the pink one gets less sun because she's in the shade of the purple, but they're both doing great. - I've attempted to divide the saxifraga and I didn't realize their roots are so shallow and thin so they didn't fully survive. but I have some alive chunks in both pots 🤞 - I have also transplanted some petit dahlia seedlings with some marigolds. - mayleen is competing with jasmine on the trellis 💕 busy weekend indeed ✨💕 I wanted to transplant my cosmos and poppies too but we're gonna have a cold week after tomorrow so I'll wait a bit longer. 🍃 #urbangardening #containergardening #springhasnotsprung #smallspacegardening #gradinaurbana #gradinadinbalcon #balconygarden #plantsinpots #citygarden #gardensofinstagram #containergarden #pottedflowers #slowbloom #springbulbs #springhassprung

🌱last year I started my balcony garden journey in the summer and I experimented with some things and had mostly failures. I had growth and foliage, but no flower success apart from zinnias which were the real trooper! and all the pests on the planet lived on my balcony. 🌱 in autumn, I got lots of bulbs. two or three types of muscari, daffodils, lots of crocuses and some tulips and alliums. out of them all, only my tulips came through and a pot with some muscari. also had two or three pretty crocuses. but the rest just didn't want to flower. maybe I buried them too deep or it rained on them too much.. or it was too cold.. or I messed it up with the lasagna method.. or my balcony is just too shady.. or anything. 🌱this year, instead of going slowly to see what works and to feel less disappointment, I made a lot.. A LOT of impulse buys. I got maybe too many plants and too many seeds. more than what my mind and two hands can handle. pots over pots over pots. if last year I was fine carrying some soil in my backpack, this year I used my backpack but also made two huge orders for soil since I don't have a car, but I hope I won't need any more for the season! balcony updates: the temperature dropped a bit and the sun is hiding behind the clouds. most plants aren't happy about it, some are indifferent. 🌱the blueberry flowers are slowly opening up. 🌱the tulips are still looking nice and some are yet to open 🌱mayleen buds are taking their sweet time, but the plant is putting up so many new stems and leaves I don't mind at all! 🌱 the two scabiosas and the saxifraga I found on sale are adorable and I might have to up their pot size?! I'll attempt diving the saxifraga too! 🌱 rhododendron started to bloom so much! 🌱 acer orange dream is continuing to put out so many leaves I'm worried it gets too stuffy in the middle! but I don't know if I should prune it being so small still. I'll have to do some research on that. it's still my pride and joy on the balcony.. after the peony because peony came first! ✨ 🌱verbena doesn't like me anymore and it's dying instead of thriving. I don't know what I'm doing wrong 😔 🌱muscari are half dead but bees are still visiting so I don't want to cut them yet 🐝 other notes: *I have a fungus gnat issue inside the house, but now they're everywhere outside too! I'm starting to just accept them and squish what I can catch. I know I could have way bigger issues than fungus gnats. *I saw a tiny spider outside today and I didn't kick him out! I'm scared they won't have room to grow and die.
