The surgery at the VA Hospital exceeded expectations for everyone involved. Over a decade ago, I was shot, and yesterday the skilled VA doctors and exceptional medical staff successfully removed a large piece of the bullet from my thigh, along with some smaller fragments. The sound of the bullet hitting the table was reminiscent of a scene from a movie. I was amazed by its weight and the remarkable resilience of the human body, which managed to push it out after all these years. I attribute all the credit to God, who worked through everyone involved and kept me alive all those years ago. Yesterday was truly a remarkable day, filled with gratitude. I guess you could say I fell off the edge of the world that day.. And thankfully, I did, or I'd be in a much unfit place for what I was becoming.. I remember all was grey.. a haze.. one that I'd actually prefer not to remember. nevertheless, I remember finally opening a portal there, and as I walked through it, it was like I fell into a million more.. As I went down, I felt a million different feelings.. Mostly pain and sadness.. but I got answers to many questions.. I gained new armor, wisdom.. and a piece of myself back.. I remember right when I thought I was going to hit the bottom.. Something shot me back up.. There I felt like I was flying, I felt free, untouchable, I felt like I could do anything.. And I gained even more pieces of myself back.. From hell, to oblivion, to infinity. ....I must have done something right then to go back up instead.. And here I've stayed.. though there are still battles when you're up, they don't last as long I've come to find.. regardless of how much of a storm they come with. And maybe that's also what it's about. Withstanding the storms here without eventually giving much of yourself at all overtime. ... The hardest fight I ever fought was against the system. . Hazing in the military led up to my suicide attempt in 2015, followed by my mothers suicide six months later and my sister two years later. . Had the hazing and harassment in the military not ensued, I'd have never shot myself. Had my mother not taken me on as her patient, she wouldn't have taken her life. Had my mother not died, my sister wouldn't have killed herself over the grief of our mother. . The hardest fight I've ever fought was against the system. . Built to treat people like a number never truly involved in the mental health of the very people who signed their lives over for their country. Built to create criminals at a low level and exploit them vs. catch the real ones. . Society, more than ever, is becoming a proud collective of judgment over curiosity. Crusifying their neighbor while proudly wearing a patriot hat. Condemning those with mental health issues never once wondering what tragedy got them that way. Praising a recovering addict only to shut them down when they are at their weakest. . The hardest fight I've ever fought was against the system. . Resisting drugs set up and orchestrated downfalls by them simultaneously struggling to stay sober and be better than I ever was physically and mentally. . This game called life is not the romanticized soldier on a screen screaming for help from PTS, and his buddies come to the rescue. . This game called life is a battle of PTS behind closed doors where those we trust secretly make it worse. Root for your failure. Deliberately prevent your growth. . Suicide prevention isn't just for the soldier/civilian struggling. Suicide prevention is a wake-up call to those quick to condemn one. . Hazing in the military was a domino effect to the death of my family. . Had one soldier made the choice to step up, none of us would have fallen. . Those who judge a man at his weakest have already seen the extent of his strength. . Those who help a man at his weakest will never know the full extent of it. . I've realized a lot about the people I've put my faith in. To learn some of the things I've learned has made me realize that holding off on doing the right thing is a colossal mistake. The weight of God's hand was on me for 8 very long years and being stubborn to His Will is a Death Sentence. #jonahandthewhale Hind sight is always 20/20, but seeing everything for what it was is a sobering notion. The upside? I'm learning to put my trust in myself and my intuition. While also putting 100% of my faith in the Providence of Almighty God. It's been one revelation after another ever since early February and I'm grateful for the peace it's brought me as well as those who have continuously been in my corner; calling, texting and reaching out to see how I'm doing. You are all loved and I'm truly blessed to have you in my life. 🙌 💪 TL;DR: 1.) Faith is a muscle that only improves with practice and exercise. 2.) Only God can save someone. 3.) Replacing emotional pain with physical pain is one hell of a coping mechanism. To 2024 pains that will fade and gains that we make pushing through the darkness! 🕯 Stay in the fight y'all.

Whether you step into the ring for the 1000th time or the very first time, you are always going to feel fear, you are always going to feel emotions that flood you the same way as the first time you step onto the mats. Watching my little warriors step onto the mats for the first time yesterday was something not every coach has the honour of seeing and experiencing with them. I’m beyond grateful and proud to have been there with them every step of the way yesterday. No matter the circumstances, win or lose, knowing that these young kids have the heart to put themselves forth and give it what they got is already a big win on its own. Many turned to look at me during their fight and said to me “I’m so tired, I can’t do this” but after a few words, they were back fighting through their tears because passion is going to beat fear everytime. This is the next generation of martial arts and it’s so exciting to see how many strong fighters are coming out of it. Let’s raise a community of little warriors who find happiness and joy in what they do at their gyms. Let’s raise a community that allows them to become friends with the opponents they share the ring with. Let’s support one another and help make the martial arts community stronger and better than it already is. Forever blessed to be part of this family and I’m excited to see what the future holds for the next generation of martial arts.
