Visit to Stockghyll Force for a low level walk on a super windy day. Except I also went up Wansfell Pike and Iโm not sure Iโve experienced such gales before! Stockghyll is a gushing waterfall just up the hill from Ambleside. Head to the Baabars and youโll find the sign. I managed to slip early on, totally wrecking my shin that didnโt come out in full bruises until a week later. So poles came out and were helpful as I headed up into the wind. But a really nice circular loop for walking or running. I saw only a handful of folk out that day, including a couple runners heading up as I came down. Iโd previously been up the track on the east shore of Windermere as it heads towards Troutbeck and Bowness, so this time I headed down. It finishes in Skelghyll Woods, which by this point was soggy so all I could do was allow it to happen. Fortunately the hostel is just at the bottom of the trail. Nice 8km, but not easy! Just loved the contrasting colours between the flowing water and the surrounding woodland. Wansfell Pike, another mountain that's defeated me, there's quite a list now haha but I'm not a confident mountain climber really, especially when it's slippery after a few days of rain and the footing starts to go but I still feel like I've let myself and the team down and I do feel a bit deflated but it's important to acknowledge stuff like this. โฐ๏ธ It's a smaller mountain, the Wainwright is called Baystones and it stands at a nice 482m (1581ft!) We got about 360m up a seemingly endless amount of slippery steps, which is way over 2/3rds and still a massive achievement, right?
