Sunday Hike. The Old Man of Coniston 803m, Dow Crag 778m, Buck Pike744, Brown Pike 682m. What a wonderful and picturesque hike up one of the most well known mountains in the Lakes - The Old Man. Evening all 👋👋 So decided to bob out on Thursday night. The conditions were looking great so I had a jaunt back up to the Green Crag area. Well it’s a terrific old view, however it is definitely a challenge to photograph. The reason being there is so much going on. After loads of exploring and wandering I finally decided on this composition as I really liked the foreground rocks and to me really illustrated the rugged nature of the landscape. The light managed to squeeze through the bank of cloud to the West for a could of moments and cast some lovely warm soft light on the scene. 📍 Y E W B A R R O W This stand alone fell, is set out in the Westen fells of the Lake District, more specifically Wasdale Head. Standing at 628m it's ranked 122 out of the 214 Wainwrights. There is a carpark right at the base of the fell (cash only) There are 4 routes up the fell, 3 from the car park and one from the Scafell car park just up the road which is the shortest but straight UP. ⚠️⚠️⚠️I've enclosed the map of the route that we took as a warning. Where the black dot is on the map this section is called Stirrup Crag, and this isn't for the average walker, this was to my mind more a climbing section. 🛑 Everyone knows their own ability/limit, so think twice before you do this as once you start you have to see it though as your not going to want to try and come back down it. 📍 Beacon Fell & Tarn 🗺️ 3.75miles / 6km 📈 270m This is one of my favourite little walks, and perfect for a post Bakehouse breakfast leg stretch. One of Wainwright’s outlying fells and only 255m, but packs a punch with views. Last weekend was spent exploring some of the Western Lake District. This is not an area that we would come to much before moving here as it was quite a bit further away. For a few brief seconds on Saturday afternoon my fingertips were the highest point in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🙌 It was the first good weather weekend in what feels like forever, so I headed out to bag some more solo Wainwrights and decided to go for the highest mountain in the country via the Corridor route. I've been up Scafell Pike many times before, but never via that route. When I realised it would take an hour to drive to Seathwaite I figured it'll be (almost) as quick to walk to the start of the Corridor route from Langdale 😆 The day was an interesting lesson in mindset and expectation management. I usually like solitude in the fells, especially when I'm hiking alone, but I knew Scafell Pike would be busy on the first properly nice weekend of the year. And wow it was busy. Swipe to see just how many people you can fit on a mountain summit ➡️ It was great seeing so many people out enjoying the mountains. I'd usually get annoyed with crowded trails like this, but rather than getting internally frustrated by all the people, I accepted it and felt the buzz of all the people conquering their own personal challenges to reach the summit. The Tour of the Lake District Day 3: Eskdale - Wasdale (High Level Route) Distance: 24.72km Time: 7h 26m Ascent: 1361m Decent: 1448m The first part took me back on the route that I did the night before, but it was so beautifully different - it's so hard to explain. Continuing down to the very tip of Eskdale blew my mind. Not only following the magical River Esk with such amazing pools but the beauty of seeing the wild side of Scafell Pike, Sca Fell, Bow Fell, and Crinkle Crags. It is a view that very few venture to see. Waterfalls there were many and they were vast and amazing. I climbed under Throstlehow Crag & Scar Lathing to emerge on to Great Moss. Great Moss is a vast, flat area of marshy ground, and it was difficult to navigate across with dry boots. After Cam Spout Crag, the path gets rocky and steeper and then steeper still. Then you amerge at Mickledore Col between Scafell Pike and Sca Fell. And here I met the first person in 4 hours!!!! A rocky path leads me up and around to Scafell Pike. Once all the pictures were taken, I headed down the main path to Wasdale, which was hard going on a laid stone path (but completely get due to erosion and volume of traffic). But this is where you see Wast Water in all its glory. Where the path splits, I took the Wasdale Head route for a well earned pint.
