I put myself forward to join in the @permaculture_uk discussion "Permaculture For All: Overcoming Barriers in Permaculture: Neurodivergency" earlier today. I feel it is a very timely and relevant subject, and for me personally. Doing Zoom calls is very much out of my comfort zone, and has some knock on effects (I was shaking and sweating to be honest - that's just the reaction my body can have to the unknown and these types of social interactions and being put on the spot to speak. No, it never gets any easier the more you do it, not for me at least). But I knew this was a subject I wanted to be involved with, share my voice in, and will help towards positive changes. It was a positive experience and a great bunch of people I hope to get a chance to reconnect with. I'm back on with a Permaculture learning journey I started back in 2011. These things can take time. I was undiagnosed back then and it has been very interesting and positive to re-visit this field with knowledge of my own neurodivergent traits, and had a "eureka moment" of how permaculture design models benefit mental health and can provide helpful solutions for non-neurotypical brains; whilst the whole concept is based on creative thinking. I felt "heard" and "hopeful" (we were asked how we felt at the end of the session).
