What a great weekend! 🎉 I have a happiness hangover! 🤕 😆 It was bittersweet too y’all! 😭 💗 On one hand, I’m so proud of my #yoga babies rocking their final projects & graduating yoga #teacher #training! 💕 We invited our friends & family to join us. We had special ceremonies at the studio & at the temple. We didn’t want the weekend to end. 💖 🎉 🧘🏻‍♀️ On the other hand, I’m sad because this was our last weekend together. 😭 💔 We have grown so much, we have done hours & hours of yoga & meditation & dharma talks. I’ve grown accustomed to taking these deep dives into yoga with some really cool people & I will miss them dearly. 💔💔💔 Special thanks to my assistant, Julie @theyogicyclist. We settle into an asana for 3-7 minutes and slowly relax our muscles to allow the deeper drier tissues–the connective tissues that wrap our muscles and make up our joint capsules to be safely and therapeutically stretched, stimulated, and strengthened. The alignment rules of the postures are also simple, but more importantly, they are functional and organic: We listen to our bodies and lead ourselves into the shape that follows the natural contours of our spine, pelvis, and hips. Level 1 classes are designed for those who have had very little or no previous exposure to yoga but are eager to learn and start experiencing the amazing benefits of a yoga practice. This level is appropriate for those with current health/physical concerns, those who are recovering from an injury, or those who are feeling low on energy. Expect to do a slower-paced class with more rest and relaxation offered than in our other class levels. The teacher may begin to introduce more challenging poses as the student is ready. The grounding, meditative practice was a way to find balance and clarity during those turbulent teenage years. Later, when he began a career in the culinary arts, he found that #yoga was a great way to care for the body while in the demanding environment of a professional kitchen. Like seasoning a great meal, by adding a pinch of spice or a dash of sweetness, Jacob enjoys offering a functional approach to yoga, encouraging students to find that “just right” sensation in their own body. He believes that yoga is for EVERYbody and is passionate about sharing the benefits it can offer at all experience levels. Jacob’s love of yoga is rivaled only by his love of family, friends and food. When he’s not on the yoga mat, Jacob can be found in the kitchen, the garden, taking care of his pets or on an adventure with his wife. Andie (Mel) Moore has been studying Psychology since she was 14. Terry, her greatest teacher and mentor gave her a lesson on the differences between the left and right hemispheres of the brain and their different functions. His lesson to her was to explain it to as many of her friends as possible until she didn’t need to refer to her notes anymore. So at 14 years old, she was educating kids on the school bus on what it meant to be right brained dominant. The following year, she started teaching and counselling at summer camp. Her qualities in leadership have not come easy, or overnight - but she has persisted in showing up, learning how to hold presence, and to become better and better at making complex topics easy to understand for most people. With a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelor of Education + 1000s of hours in continuing education in yoga, mindfulness, neuroscience (and more), she is very proud to present KUUMA U. A yoga university. This is where she will not only teach you how to teach yoga, but also share her vast array of knowledge in many topics that support an education in yoga. The details of the program will be announced soon, but we wanted to share our plans with you so that you can start to imagine yourself participating in something like this. There will be local, online and international options, you can go at your own pace, take it all at once or over time. You may also choose to take individual courses or the entire program. Upon completion of the course requirements, you will be certified with the Yoga Alliance, as well as a Bachelor of Yoga Education Degree Certification with KUUMA U. To test the sacroiliac stability and see the range of nutation and counternutation available at the hip. Normally the spine makes up for the weakness and lack of mobility at the hip. When we have healthy sacroiliac movements, it makes up for safer and sharper postures.
