Many years ago a celebrity who shall remain nameless promoted the Daily Gratitude journal, where every day you jotted down 5 things you were thankful for that day. I didn't buy the book but I liked the premise. Telling yourself what you are grateful for is a good way to remember how blessed you are. Today's note is similar to that gratitude mindset. Dwelling on the negative, the troubles, in your life will do nothing but stress you out, and in some cases, make you sick mentally, physically, and spiritually. Remembering the blessings in your life - no matter how few you may think they are - is the best way to counteract the negativity. This may sound weird - okay, it's me, so it def. sounds weird! - but the first thing I do every day when I wake up is thank God that I did. Consider the alternative. And if you don't get what I'm saying, the alternative to not waking up is... got it now? Remember how much you are blessed and the day will go much better for you. Maya Angelou had one of my favorite quotes. "People will always remember how you make/made them feel." Here's my question for today: How do you make yourself feel? Do you consider yourself unworthy of love and blessings? Do you put yourself down in words, deeds, and actions? DO you look at the lives of others and feel yours is lacking, or not as good because you are lacking? Here's my truth: I grew up in a very rigid family and never felt loved. It wasn't something that was said in our house. In fact, my grandmother went out of her way to never say she loved me, instead enumerating all my failings: fat, loud, ugly, insolent. When I was at my lowest mentally and spiritually, when I knew I wasn't worthy of being loved by anyone, I remembered one thing that had been drilled into me since birth: God loved me. One day, that clicked. I figured if God could love me, that could be enough. And finally, because of that, I learned to love myself. I learned to consider myself and my life worthy; blessed; worthwhile. And when I finally did, I refused to accept that anyone else found me unworthy of being loved. I never got a chance to confront my grandmother with my truth because she died. I'd like to think I would have stood up to her and boldly announced she was wrong. That I was someone special. Someone deserving of love, respect, care. I'd like tot think she'd agree, but I kinda know she wouldn't have, LOL. KNow this today and feel it down in your soul: YOU ARE LOVED. YOU ARE WORTHY. YOU ARE BLESSED. YOU DESERVED LOVE, KINDNESS, CARE, and RESPECT. You are enough and you are everything. Feel it. Know it. Believe it.
