A ‘snake bit me’…. I was so overwhelmed by pain, anger and bitterness so much so that instead of rushing for help…. I spent so long searching for that snake….. just so I could ask it, ‘how can you be so evil? How can you bite me…. I needed to spend time diving into the Gospels to really understand Jesus, who He was, how He served and loved people. I needed to lean into my identity in Jesus and realize my identity isn’t in anything else. I needed Jesus do a work in me and fill me before I could pour out. I have no idea what to expect on this mission trip, but I’m ready to say YES to whatever God places in my path. I’m ready to see Him show up and move! I’m ready to be obedient even if it seems scary. Terrible things happen. We all know the pain, and wonder: Did I do something wrong? I know the feeling of worrying that something is your fault. I also know this feeling: that everything will fall apart if you don’t do everything perfectly. Both worries reflect the same inherent misbelief. That we have control. Instead, let's do our best and trust the Lord for the results. We'll mess up. But God can and does redeem mistakes. Stop giving yourself credit for how things turn out. You don’t deserve it. :) We are in the Lord’s hands, no matter whether we act perfectly or not. Our responsibility is to do our best. To love, to serve, to give. Then it’s out of our hands, and the Lord brings the fruit. “Let go and let God.” Yes, you will ache inside for the struggles and losses you endure. Though thankfully with time, the ache dulls. Meanwhile, you have other ways and other people to love and serve, both today and in the future. Last Fall, our daughter Naomi flew the coop. I miss her so much. Yet, within 2 months, she met her now fiancé. They are well matched. Truly God bought brought them together. As difficult as it was for me to say goodbye (and still is) look what happened. God makes all things beautiful. Ok, I just can’t help putting this all together. Let go and let God + He makes all things beautiful = Let go and let God make your life beautiful. <3 God is there, bearing our burdens and transforming our struggles into beauty we couldn’t ask or imagine. We can only just “let go” and pursue things for His glory. Even down to how we eat! We call it: Eat God's Way. Seeing behind the facade is the first step to finding peace. You’ll learn that peace is expensive. Not having peace in your home will deteriorate your health and mental well-being. The years I spent with my ex husband, always on edge, afraid he would have an out burst. Always let me on edge, encased in fear, worried about what others saw or thought and the embarrassment that would follow. When I finally left, the doctor noticed every time I talked to him my blood pressure was through the roof. I was on the verge of a heart attack. I left the hospital on three different blood pressure medications. And still had high pressure. After I left him, I realized he was the problem. Blood pressure went back to normal after I left! Here I am three years later no high blood pressure, perfectly healthy and living free. I’ve never been so happy in my life. Even to be myself. I love it. There’s a peace in finding yourself. I am so glad that I let go because maybe I wouldn’t be here right now. To tell you my story, my truth. Believe me I’ve got receipts too. If you know me you know that I’ve struggled to do this in life. Always keeping myself busy and pushing myself as hard as humanly possible, just like the Energizer Bunny. Constantly looking towards the future, striving for the next thing. The present moment was never enough - I wanted to control what was next (hence anxiety.) I’d keep going and going until I’d just crash physically, or become very irritable. “Being still”, wasn’t a phrase in my vocabulary. I’d “relax”, but my mind just kept going. Life can be very overwhelming if we let it. My faith has taught me a lot about myself - some good, some that needed (or still needs) improvement. It’s taught me to slow down, sit in the discomfort that may come with that stillness and just, “let God.” I still get overwhelmed and when I do, I shut down. But I shut down on my own now, and focus on truly, “being still” and being with God. Yes, I can sometimes isolate for a bit, but I’ve come to realize that if I don’t stop and, “be still”, God will find a way to make me stop. We live in a world of instant gratification where busyness has become a cultural norm. Our expectations for ourselves and for others have become completely unrealistic. It’s no wonder that anxiety disorders and mental health issues are at an all time high. We can’t sit still!! Every single time I find myself getting carried away with life, this verse surfaces either in my Bible studies or my daily devotionals.
