This day last year Lily-Anne had her last tube feed! 😱😭♥️ I can’t believe we are here at the YEAR mark! I am so so so proud of Lily-Anne and all of her growth with drinking and eating this past year. I seriously feel like this was forever ago, but also not that long ago. TRIGGER WARNING. These images may be hard to see. But I’m sharing them because this is the reality of CHD. Miles surgery went amazing! They were able to save the pulmonary artery!! This will hopefully mean Miles won’t need another heart surgery! The surgeon was very happy with the repair! Miles did have a fast heart rate coming out of surgery but that has leveled out. Hopefully his heart rate will stay at a normal rhythm. If it doesn’t that’s not out of the ordinary. Miles is on meds for pain, blood pressure, help heart function, etc. He has a nurse totally in charge of just his care. He is receiving outstanding care! His blood pressure has had moments where it’s been too high or to low but they have figured out good medication dosing to help even it out. Miles did receive some blood during the surgery which is pretty normal. If Miles continues to do well they will slowly take him of paralysis starting tonight around 11:30 pm. Tomorrow morning they will start to wake him up off sedation if he continues to do well. Miles is so strong! We’re so proud of our boy❤️ Miles was all smiles this morning before surgery. Back in April I got the pleasure to meet sweet little Sonny in person🌞🫀 He immediately went for my hair with a huge smile on his face (as pictured) and I absolutely fell in love. This little boy is nothing short of a miracle🤍 I also got to meet his wonderful mom & dad who happened to have the blanket I made for Sonny in the back of the car! I made Sonny a blanket back in June of last year and according to his mama, it’s very loved💛 Sonny was born with a congenital heart defect and has been fighting from the start. At just 1 month old following a failed surgery to place an LVAD, little Sonny was put on ECMO. By 3 months old Sonny had already faced open heart surgery and countless complications. On February 12th, 2023 Sonny’s family got THE call that a donor heart was available for him. Sonny went into surgery and received the ultimate gift of life- a heart transplant🫀 Unfortunately the struggles didn’t stop there as Sonny endured a major stroke only about a week after his transplant. But in true Sonny fashion, he fought his way through and after 245 days in the hospital, he went HOME🤍 Sonny is now 1 year old (2 in August!) and his family is navigating life post-transplant as well as other medical struggles like feeding difficulties. Today we had a choice. A choice of what memory our Little Heart would have. Today we chose fun. Appointment days are long, it's a two hour drive, a 5 am wake up, and a lot of big emotions. Yet another appointment, another test, another doctor talking. But once and awhile there is a chance, a chance to choose fun. Today our Little Heart will remember seeing penguins, eating treats, playing with her family, and the shark umbrella she got to buy. Today she might remember the ECG, and the new nurse, the blood pressure cuff, and the doctor who talked a lot. But that already feels like a distant memory. Happy 3rd birthday my sweet [wild] boy 🤎✨ I dreamed about him years before he was to come Earthside (even though I couldn’t imagine being pregnant again after losing my twins). Being pregnant with severe HG & during a pandemic was a wild, intense (scary) experience.. & then he was born. I thought I’d be able to relax with him in my arms, but being dangerously close to losing him at birth due to an undetected congenital heart defect was terrifying. I spent every day, all day + night with him in the NICU after open heart surgery, for a month. We were told he’d likely have cognitive & developmental delays from the prolonged oxygen deprivation he experienced for hours after birth (due to an inadequate newborn exam). Something that still haunts & angers my family & I to this day. We signed him up for PT, as is recommended for infant’s with #CHD . We realized very quickly he was meeting milestones early, to the surprise of all his doctors. For the 1st 4-5 months of his life he was consistently below the 30th percentile for height & weight- which is also common as growth delays are expected in children with heart conditions. By his 1st birthday & ever since he remains in the 90-95th percentile for height & weight. His pediatricians have commented they’ve never had a child w/ a CHD grow this healthfully before. In a recent preschool assessment he tested above average in a variety of categories including emotion intelligence. He has surpassed all limitations & expectations 🤍✨ I don’t take for granted that I/ we could be living a very different life… if not for amazing surgeons, if not for his own perseverance & resilience, if not for the ancestors who have protected & guided us every step of our journey. He is high energy, deeply curious, wild, stubborn, loving, intense & funny (he knows this too). We are so much alike in a lot of ways - which I love- AND it’s required me to grow in so many NEW ways. Everyday I go to bed exhausted by his intensity & need for constant physical contact… & am so grateful for this beautiful little human & all the love he has to offer. I know he was born to change the world so I promise to guide him to his calling, whatever it may be.
DNA Contamination in Pfizer COVID 💉 Exceeded 500 Times Allowable Levels A new peer-reviewed study raises concerns over inadequate testing methods for measuring DNA impurities in COVID-19 mRNA vaccines. Genomics expert Kevin McKernan critiqued the study’s methods but argued that contamination is still over allowable limits and that current regulations are “entirely unfit for purpose.” David Speicher, Ph.D., co-author with McKernan and others of a preprint study on DNA fragments in Moderna’s and Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccines, expressed similar concerns. PCR can quantify only a particular DNA/RNA sequence targeted by the primers used, he told The Defender. If there are any breaks or mutations in that target sequence, the “DNA will not amplify and the loads will be under-reported.” “There is also an assumption that the DNA in the vaccine is only from the plasmid and not bacterial or any other source,” Speicher said. Patti, along with her colleagues Melissa Hildebrand (GME project manager) and Lauren Petty (Senior Compliance Administrator) presented “Coordinator Well-being: The Benefits of Establishing Healthy and Realistic Boundaries” at the conference. The presentation focused on how to establish healthy professional boundaries to promote career development and reduce the risk of burnout. Our sweet friend Tucker was headed into surgery this morning! He was feeling brave and ready in his Brave Gown! We got an update from his mom: surgery went smoothly and Tucker is now in recovery. We have news! 🫀 The team at The Freemans have decided they want to go ahead and try conventional surgery first. It was discussed with us that this route has higher initial risks, but better long-term outcomes. They’re going to do the Ross procedure, something which we were told last year he couldn’t have due to his heart Anatomy and previous surgeries, but they believe that with an aortic root widening, that they could make it work. It’s a very long and complicated open heart op, and currently they are the only hospital in the UK who will attempt this on Toby. Miracle workers 💪🏼🫀 This involves them taking out his bad aortic valve, widening the area to make room for his healthy pulmonary valve. Then replaced the pulmonary valve with a donor valve. Now there are no guarantees that this will improve his left ventricle function, but they do know that if his aortic valve was functioning better then theoretically his left side wouldn’t be struggling so much to compensate. This surgery gives his heart a chance to recover. So the plan is, Ross procedure, ECMO to allow recovery (heart & lung life support), and then they observe. If he starts to improve, amazing, if he doesn’t he then goes back into surgery onto the Berlin Heart and we list for transplant. If the surgery goes south and they can’t get him off ECMO safely, then it’s an emergency transplant. This is a risk, but a risk we have to take to give Toby a chance at a “normal” life. If there’s another step before transplant, we have to try. We’ve got a couple of weeks before the big day. If your child has a CHD, they will probably have several cardiac MRIs. This is a noninvasive imaging procedure that uses magnetic technology, not radiation, to create detailed images of the heart. For most children, sedation is required for this procedure, which is never fun for a parent. A breathing tube is also used to control your child's breathing during the MRI when taking images. Contrast dye is also used for the imaging. If this is the first procedure for your child (it was for us!), it can all feel like a lot. But don't worry, we're going to walk you through it.
