Last night we were entranced by the solar disco of the Northern Lights 💫 Beams of green, hot pink and orange illuminated the clear night sky, as the strongest geomagnetic storm in 20 years rippled above us. The sky pulsed last evening as the horizontal and vertical waves of colour danced across the sky. The sliver of the moon and the big dipper shone bright through the waves of green and violet. At one point the vertical lines of colours appeared to meet at the top of the sky in a bow, almost as if they were undulating violet and green cello wrap surrounding the bonbon of planet earth. Well worth standing in the dark farmers fields at 11:00 pm with two of my besties. I looked carefully when I got home from work. I looked directly north, saw a lot of stars, and the gorgeous setting crescent moon—but not the Northern Lights. Dang man. They came in strong in Oregon—I’ve seen pics taken by friends outside of Portland. Stunning! I’ve seen Eugene city pics of the auroras. I even saw one taken from a rooftop in downtown DC! If I want to see them tonight, I’ll have to set the alarm. They come around late, between 2:00-4:00 am. More coronal blasts are coming our way this weekend, six at least. Tonight and tomorrow the light show will continue. The story that’s going around in the Reyaverse is that Brother Sun is trying to inspire us in this moment of crisis on the planet. Millions of people witnessed the total solar eclipse, coming into a shared wavelength of awe if only for a few hours. And now this! Talk about a shared wavelength of awe! The lights could be seen in Italy, Alabama, Portland, Kansas City. Brother Sun is reaching out to us. Thank goddess for our atmosphere. Aurora borealis last night. Such an amazing spectacle to see. It kept evolving into new patterns and colours as the night went on. It’s been some time since my last post. We’ve had a lot of ups and downs in our family over the past two months, from a death to a wedding, so posting to social media was at the bottom of the list. With us being well into May, I’ve been thinking about post schedules for National Speech-Language-Hearing Month; sometimes feeling frustrated that I haven’t posted, let alone planned anything yet! But about last night. Let me tell you - it’s something I needed. Maybe something you needed as well. The northern lights were able to be seen in CT and it was a magical experience. There was something about this experience in particular that was so overwhelming yet peaceful and I was in complete awe. It really brought be back to my why. Why I do what I do. And how in awe I am of my clients. We work together to see the light among the darkness. Stuttering awareness week is happening now. Many teenagers I’m working with are struggling. So with that, my first #PSA for this week is to please be mindful. Please be aware of your reactions and the language you use when you talk with someone who stutters and when you speak about stuttering. This truly goes for anyone who communicates in a different way than you do. More to come this week and month.
