Meet Grace. Grace is a beautiful, grown-up fairie. And she isn't called Grace for no reason. She is elegance personified, she moves lightly and with grace, gently tiptoeing through the flowers. She's never loud, never mischievous, only ever kind, thoughtful, and poised. She looks after all the little fairies too, gently chastising them if they become too rowdy and naughty - especially the twin cornish piskies - you'll meet that troublesome twosome another day! Grace is accompanied by Dandelions and the humble Daisy here. There are little flying seed heads scattered all round this light, but they are pesky things to capture on camera! This is a subtle, simple, and charming design. No glitter, knobs or bells and whistles - that's just not Grace's style! Grace is loosely based on my beautiful daughter, Amber, both physically and in temperament. Wired with rechargeable led lights that only require a 20-minute charge and last for 5+ hours. It provides a soft, gentle accent lighting. This would be perfect for someone who likes understated style, not as flamboyant as my little fae folk, but just as beautiful. Meet April. April is a pretty little garden fairy, who likes to dance and prance around the garden. Her favourite flowers are crocus and daffodils. April's wings are green, purple and yellow - her favourite colours, as they match her favourite flowers! I created April on a beautiful bottle and decided not to frost the bottle first - sometimes I do, sometimes I don't, I'm fickle like that! Photographing a clear glass light is even harder than the glazed ones, as it picks up the image from the back, too. There are crocus and daffodils all around the bottle, so it's a 360° design - perfect for a table center or in a little niche, crook, or cranny! If the walls are pale in colour, she throws pretty light against them. It's wired with rechargeable led lights and offers up soft, gentle, accent light. She's wonderfully portable too, so you can take her wherever you like, maybe in the garden of an evening - but please don't leave her outside! She's not waterproof. The lights take 20 minutes to charge, and last 5+ hours. April will be coming with me at the weekend to the @callingtonmindbodyspirit fair on Sunday. Angel Lamp This is now wired & finished; it has been tested extensively and is ready for sale. I just have to stick the felt to the base tomorrow to protect surfaces and put the "live, don't stick your fingers in it" label on the back. It offers up a really good, warm illumination and is fitted with a low energy led bulb and mains powered UK 3 pin plug. The cable is approx 2 meters. This really does look better in real life - it's an absolute nightmare to photograph, as are most of my lights. The mains powered ones are the worst, as they blow out the images and make other bits too dark. This is a beautiful, bespoke piece of art, and only the second angel light I have ever made. The original one is different colours - I strive to make each one unique. The first one went to live with someone special, and it makes them smile daily - which means my work there is done! Hopefully, this one might find it's forever home at the weekend at the @callingtonmindbodyspirit fair on Sunday. If you would like these Angels to grace your home, please dm me. Drops of Ocean Handpainted Wooden Pins 🌊 These are a new thing I am making to go with my Drops of Ocean earrings. Every single one is unique. And every single one is handpainted with my unique paint mixes. A little drop of ocean for you to take with you wherever you may go, so your heart is never far away from the sea - wearable art 💙🌊💙 I thought these would be a good thing to share to take part in #mermay with the lovely Louise @phoenixfeathersart. I don't think they really fit with any of the prompts, but if you look at them long enough, you can hear the sea in your imagination! Because these are brand spanking new, and this is their first appearance, I'd love feedback. I work in complete isolation, so until I do an event, it's just me, my art, and living inside my own head! So, other people's thoughts or suggestions would be most welcome 🙏🏻 I'm about to go and decide if some of my little paintings and pictures are worth getting prints done. I've had a very helpful local print company advising me..... Extracting Humans from the Landscape with Dale Rio (@Dale.Rio.Photography) will meet every Thursday from 5 pm - 8 pm EDT (except 5/23: 6 – 9pm EDT) via Zoom for 6 weeks. Human activity has impacted every corner of the globe, including remote areas where human beings aren’t physically present. Places – waterways, forests, deserts, etc. – have been mapped and assigned names, throughout history mythology has conveyed stories of the natural world, and pollution travels on the air and seas. Is it possible for contemporary photographers to tell visual stories about the natural world without referencing humanity; human history, activities, folklore, industry? In this six-week practice group, we’ll explore ways to extract human beings from the landscape and create projects that tell stories of place independent of human impact. And we will debate whether this is even possible. As much as I love the ocean or the mountains, my earth day reflection is to be thankful for and look out for the micro-ecologies in our daily lives — the single flower coming up through the crack in the concrete or the one birds nest you always pass on the way to work. I am so excited to share these new owls with you! I attended a fabulous workshop yesterday led by @maxineleu at @thedrawkingston for Eco Arts Week in Kingston, NY. I have always wanted to learn how to use Tetrapak as a printing plate. Maxine showed us how and informed us about how these packaging materials are recycled (or not recycled, hey NY State!) #tetrapak #tetrapakprint #tetrapakprintmaking Basically it’s an etching process which I am familiar with but on a recycled material I wasn’t familiar working with. I loved it! So thanks to Maxine and to D.R.A.W. Kingston for making these special workshops happen! I will be playing more with Tetrapaks for printmaking in the very near future.
