American Fiction as some of you know is written and directed by recent Oscar Award-Winner Cord Jefferson. The film additionally includes several hilariously executed scenes with expert comedic timing, and a excellent supporting cast. Consisting of, Sterling K. Last entry. My personal choice for Best Original Score. American Fiction, which is outstanding, features a jazz based score that accompanies the film beautifully, and is itself a moving collection of compositions. The score was composed by Laura Karpman (The Galapagos Affair/Lovecraft Country/The Marvels), whose work I will now be poring over. I’m trying to think of the best way to describe this music. The jazz elements were almost a necessity, to match both the film’s subject matter and the main character. But the way each composition is written is…there’s so many different elements being brought together depending on the track. Mother is (Missing) is a quaint but lovely piano melody, being overshadowed by these experimental film noir elements. Bookstore is this mix of discordant notes and classic style. Hi Lorraine just makes me chuckle when I hear it, because it’s so good and upbeat, yet then very naturally takes on this melancholy that leaves you thinking. Each piece is a piece of this man and his life. So even when the music is rough, it’s still enjoyable because that’s who the lead is. And it keeps the overall tone the same throughout to create this sense of cohesion. The composition I selected to sample was My Pafology. Sharing the title of the book that sparks the main conflict in the film, it is a representation of this potential monster, and I love the combination of tones used. Because it’s sinister and yet, at times, the music creates this sense of Genesis as it ebbs and flows and builds. And right in the middle, a little classic jazz to tie it back to the creator, despite how different the rest is from that style, and from his. Love it. 5 / 5. Give it all the awards.

Sempre più spesso, però, Monk si irrita per la sensibilità culturale dei suoi studenti, fatto che rischia di mettere a repentaglio la sua posizione accademica. Allo stesso tempo, il suo ultimo romanzo viene rifiutato da molti editori, che rispondono genericamente allo scrittore che il suo racconto “non è abbastanza nero”… Il cast é buono, in particolare spiccano le interpretazioni di Jeffrey Wright nei panni di Monk (questa interpretazione gli é valsa la nomination all’oscar come miglior attore protagonista) e di Sterling K. Brown nei panni di Clifford (questa interpretazione gli é valsa la nomination all’oscar come miglior attore non protagonista). Film del 2023, la trama è molto originale e interessante. American Fiction is a great jazz score that also works great on album. Indiana Jones is maybe Williams not doing anything new, but what he does is the thing he's best at and there's never been anyone who will do it better. Oppenheimer is simply the most creative and best scote on here to me. It was my personal No. 2 of the year, so I hope it wins and I thibk it probably will. And Göransson very much deserves it. Monday’s fantastic screening and Q&A for @americanfictionmovie at the #eagletheater at @vidiots . I’d been dying to see this one for a while, but kept missing the Q&As. Finally, on what turned out to be not only the team’s final Q&A for the film, but also was the final Q&A of the #awardsseason. It was great timing, because they made it a super-sized, hour-long discussion, which was awesome. Panel featured Academy Award nominees writer-director-producer @cordjefferson , star @jfreewright , composer @laurakarpman , producers #jermainejohnson & @instamigios , and moderator @moviemantz . Film exceeded my high expectations, is truly one of the best of last year, and the chat was a lot of fun. A fan used his question to share how #AmericanFiction inspired him to make his own personal journey into a screenplay, which was followed by the audience shouting things like, “Ask a question!”, and “I don’t hear a question!” LA people take their Q&As VERY seriously. Was lucky enough to talk with #CordJefferson after, and he couldn’t have been nicer. I’ll be rooting for them all come Sunday! Hoy les vengo a hablar de una película poco visibilizada... Ja! CURIOSO (o no tan curioso) que esto solo refuerce el mensaje de la película. Hablemos de #AmericanFiction. En esta historia el escritor y académico Thelonious o #Monk para los amigos, enfurecido por los rechazos de sus complejas y elaboradas propuestas literarias, lanza una obra de ficción basura como broma intelectual... Y para sorpresa de nadie... ¡LA QUIEREN PUBLICAR! Las intenciones de esta película son transparentes: la adulación instintiva de las narrativas del trauma negro por parte de la clase blanca [Qué vergüenza y qué cierto]. Pero la historia funciona en dos niveles: en primer lugar, como esa sátira mordaz sobre la industria editorial estadounidense (que es perfectamente aplicable a la cinematográfica) y, en particular, su encasillamiento de los autores negros. Pero también igualmente satisfactoria es su descripción de la dinámica corrosiva y muy, muy complicada de una familia - que hasta podría ser la tuya o la mía. La película es muy segura de sí misma y es muy hábil a la hora de transmitir las frustraciones y conflictos sociopolíticos. Es extremadamente inteligente sin ser pedante y explica perfectamente por qué, probablemente, el #Oscar se debata entre #PoorThings y #Oppenheimer(? Uno de los momentos más brillantes es el modo en que sitúa al espectador en el conflictivo y creativo espacio mental de Monk. Lamentablemente un recurso poco explotado, pero bien ejecutado. Y acá freno para aplaudir de pie la interpretación de #JeffreyWright. La música, la fotografía y el montaje (todas #mujeres) está muy muy bien: prolijo, justo y acorde a la narrativa. Mucha comedia y mucho drama, pero sobre todo mucha reflexión. Una película que me hizo cuestionar mis propias acciones y hasta repensar un análogo a diferentes conflictos sociopoliticos. Muy interesante y acá no solo la recomiendo, sino también creo que es NECESARIO pegarle un vistazo. Let’s talk about stereotypes. It is not a good thing most of the time, no matter if it is with good intentions or on purpose. “Let’s ask him for advice on this. He is a (role), so he is supposed to know.” “Don’t get her mad. She is on her period.” I think many of us have had such experiences. They will make us embarrassed or furious sometimes, as it was like we were put into the wrong shoes but everyone thought they were fit. If we agree that “everyone is unique,” why do stereotypes even work? It is because we are loafing to think. Generally, we are uncomfortable with new things, and when they come to us, stereotypes will get us faster to pass that feeling. Also, a stereotype has its own advantage: the impression behind it. Here is an example: according to a friend of mine, you will get more popular around your female friends if you post more stories on Instagram with you holding a child, as they will be more likely to trust that you are generous and helpful. I think that really works, though I never try it. One thing I pay attention to in American Fiction is its score. Those jazz songs mark a strong impression of African-American communities. While I was just about to worry I was stereotyping the African-American, I checked it out and found out that they were a tribute to Thelonious Monk, an American jazz pianist and composer who has a similar name to the protagonist. アメリカン・フィクション (2024/2/27) ✍️ めちゃめちゃおもしろいコメディ！ 文学界を皮肉りつつコミカルに描いていた！ フィクションは文学のジャンルだけどそれを現実世界にも当てはめてて興味深かった 文学作品ってほとんどがフィクション、つまり作り上げられたストーリー その作品を売るために著者や出版社など作品に関わる人たちも嘘偽りを重ねてアドバタイズメントしているのが風刺的だったかな フィクション作品は全行程が “フィクション”なんだよって感じ 売上のためならどんなことでもするって感じの出版社も皮肉ってるようでおもしろかった また、ただのフィクションじゃなくて「アメリカン・フィクション」だからアメリカの一番の課題の一つであろう人種問題と同性愛問題もフィクションにうまく絡め合わせて批判しているようだった ジョニー・ウォーカーのメタファーがここ数年で見た比喩で一番しっくりきたし腑に落ちた ジョニー・ウォーカーは赤・黒・青の3種類あり（青ラベルがあるのは知らなかった）、右の色に行くほど値段が高くなる ただ僕が知らなかったように最も価値の高い青ラベルは一般的な知名度は値段とは非相対的に高くない 逆に赤ラベルや黒ラベルは青ラベルほど値段は高くないが一般的な知名度が高く、手にも取りやすい 文学作品やその他の芸術作品（音楽や映画も）はたとえ中身がなかったとしてもやはり大衆向けがヒットする傾向にあるのは否めない 批評家からの評価が高くてもカタブツすぎる作品だと一般ウケはしない そこの塩梅が難しいところだよね〜 #アメリカンフィクション #americanfiction #cordjefferson #jeffreywright #traceeellisross #johnortiz #erikaalexander #leslieuggams #laurakarpman #orionpictures #primevideo
