I've been told if I would just politely tell those in charge that certain adjustments need to made here and there I'd probably be listened to much more. Here’s reality: no one listens because no one cares until the fecal matter hits the rotating oscillator. All those "in charge" want to shove a bit of money in each corner of the command, have everyone do their job, and shut up. And that's exactly why this happens again and again. Here's another truth nugget: you send your ill-trained, unread team out to perform, especially colors, and everyone is elated with the job barely done, while in reality, people across the internet, who also don't read their manuals, think "that's the way we can do it!" and they go out and repeat your performance. Duplicate that now with their performance and double the amount of people who now repeat the performance. Use the most conservative numbers you can think of. Now double it again and again and again, and again! I know, you blame me for all your woes. This is your fault, leadership and Nats bearer, you are included in this. Let’s meet 45 Jervis Bay’s Chiefs! CPO1 Hannah Thiessen – Hey guys!! I am the Coxswain of 45 Jervis Bay and currently run our social media. I transferred from 77 RCSCC Daerwood in Selkirk, Manitoba in September for school. Currently, I am pursuing a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology at the University of Saskatchewan but hope to eventually earn a Juris Doctor Degree. Outside of cadets and studying, I work part-time at American Eagle and volunteer with the university’s Access and Equity Services, as well as read and write. My favourite part about the cadet program has to be watching my junior cadets grow into leaders and knowing how big of a role I have played in that. I also greatly enjoy travelling and creating friendships with people from all over :) CPO2 Alyssa Whalley – Hey! I am the Regulating Petty Officer at Jervis Bay. I work with the Standards Team to ensure everything is up to par. Outside of cadets, I am an agriculture student majoring in Animal Bioscience at the University of Saskatchewan. In my free time I like to play piano and guitar as well as play with my band. One of my favourite parts about the cadet program is meeting different cadets from across the country while participating in our program’s great sailing opportunities. CPO2 Xander Heigh – Hi, I am the Chief of Stores at Jervis Bay. I work with the Supply Officer to ensure cadets receive correct uniform parts and I keep the canteen stocked. I also volunteer with our local Navy League cadets, NLCC H.M. Weir. Outside of cadets, I am a senior in high school and work at the Saskatoon Airport as a Ground Handler. Let's go after some of these common mistakes. 1. Guards, stop pointing this hand forward. I see this quite often and it shows a complete lack of awareness during training. Fingers are flared for everyone except the Army at a approximate 45-degree angle forward and down. 2. Left hand on the staff at the socket. No one does this except the Army. If there is strong wind, left on staff under and touching the right, which is at chin level. If you want, use the subdued command, Bearers, Ready Two to bring the left to grasp the staff at the socket and then use Bearers, Ready Slide to bring the hands up. 3. The POW is NEVER carried in a color guard. Ever. It's a novelty color, not a government color/flag. It was created and is owned by a private organization and Congress adopted it for one specific reason. The color is only carried as the PC for the funeral of a former POW. And only then should it have white fringe. The flag version has different guidance. 4. This isn't a mistake! This shows a gold-colored middle screw joint and that means the finials are most likely the battle-ax. 5. All organizational colors must have gold fringe except for the historic Infantry battalion color with the white diamond and anchor. That was adopted and made the NJROTC org color. That color does not receive fringe. 6. The front chin strap of the cover is decorative ONLY it is NEVER worn down. The only way to wear a chin strap down is to wear attach a second one at the rear of the cap. The second one usually has pull tabs and there is also a buckle version. 7. It's quite easy to allow the rifle to slide through the left hand, but you must grasp it at Present at the same relative position as when at Port. One more thing. 8. All staffs must be the same type and length.

Gibraltar Cup 2023 Wow, what a weekend! Friday saw the Team deploy into the field before being introduced to a Merlin helicopter in which they had the privilege of a ride and saw an aerial view of the area surrounding Woodbury Common Training Area. They then took part in arduous field assessments from Friday night through until Sunday morning. To top the weekend off, they then finished on one of the Commando Tests - the endurance course! This included both Peter’s Pool and the Sheep Dip! Definitely some more photos to come. What an experience. The lads dug out absolutely blind and gave it their all, hoofin effort lads! On the first Sunday of May, our corps had the opportunity to participate in the Battle of the Atlantic parade and ceremony at the Sailors' Memorial in North Vancouver. Some of our cadets travelled to Victoria to attend the ceremony there - with Anne, Princess Royal in attendance. This is an occasion to reflect upon the sacrifices that members of our armed forces have made in the past, and continue to make, in defense of our country and the way of life we enjoy today. NJROTC cadets providing a Sideboy #HonorCordon for CNO without a cadet as piper. The piper, a Sailor, is off to the right, far away from the cadets, but is in line with the cadets on the right. Sideboys (2-8 members in even numbers) are an interesting naval tradition that is similar to the Army's honor cordon (11-21 members in odd numbers) as they both are two lines of people facing each other as the honoree passes between the lines. Both are for the beginning (and ending) of a ceremony as well. We also have the #swordcordon that has six members. An excellent example of "cutting the cake" flanagan_njrotc. But what does that mean, what cake, and who is required to perform it? MCO 5060.20 states that the organizational staff is twisted clockwise while being brought forward from Carry to Present. It's a continuous twist in one count so that the "blade edge" of the spade finial points forward. The opposite action occurs going back to Carry. "Cutting the Cake" refers to the blade edge being turned forward to enable a cake to be cut, as it were. Any time you here the term it means to twist the staff. The Marine Corps requires color guards to use the light ash wood guidon staff with the flat, silver spade. Marine Corps, NROTC, MCJROTC, and Young Marines color guards are required to perform this action. NROTC (including USNA), because they carry both the USMC and USN departmental colors so the whole team must use the spade since USMC is never topped with any other finial. Ah, but what about NJROTC and Sea Cadets? Here's where an explanation comes into play. NTP 13B tells us that Navy and Coast Guard color guards are required to carry staffs with the battle-ax finial. That finial is only blade-forward and never twisted to point in any other direction. These finials never "cut the cake". Why do some Navy, NJROTC, and Sea Cadet color guards use staffs with spades? If they work jointly, they must use them, any other time, they should be using the battle-ax. On Tuesday, Jervis Bay held their Ceremonial Divisions! This month, we dedicated our time to Annual Ceremonial Review (ACR) preparation. Cadets practiced marching and reviewed how to receive an award. Ceremonial Divisions are held on the first training night of each month! Cadets perform a March Past and are inspected by our Commanding Officer (CO), Lt(N) McRae. This allows cadets to display what they have learned through drill and uniform training! A US @usnavy Sideboy #HonorCordon of @usfleetforcescommand aboard @cvn78_grford Sometimes the cordon can have a piper. I'm not sure why the cordon wouldn't, that's a study for another day. For this post, we will concentrate on the piper. A Boatswain's ("Bos'uns" why is it pronounced like this?) Pipe is a brass whistle used for signaling. Here, the signal is Piping Aboard. There's also Piping the Side and others. When handling the pipe, it's accomplished with the RIGHT hand and when a salute is required it is accomplished with the LEFT hand. The opposite of what is shown here. The left-handed salute is NOT "disrespectful" as I've heard some say about it. That's ridiculous. Over the centuries, a salute was rendered with either hand, it was just more usual to use the right because more people are right-handed. The hand salute was standardized just like cupping the hands at Attention. We didn't cup our hands in all branches of the US military until the 1960s. 👉Swipe and see my pipe that I recently acquired. Rancocas Valley Regional High School NJROTC(?) colors presentation for an awards ceremony. It must be Exotic Earing Day at the school. ⭐Some good technique displayed here, but inconsistently. ❔Why is the team not at Carry before going to Present? ❌Unit flag should only be carried with Nats, not the USN departmental. MCO 5060.20 tells us the makeup of the team: two color bearers and two rifle guards. You represent NJROTC, not the Navy, specifically. 👉Sword bearer isn't necessary at all, but since you are here, extend your arm fully at your side for proper Carry technique. Wrap your thumb and index finger around the grip and bring the rest of your fingers behind the grip (there's a photo of that in the MCO). Great job on Present position. ❌Since you have two org colors (which you shouldn't), staff angles should match to the right. ❌Left hands belong at the sides, not on the staff unless there is high winds. I wish there was a more revealing photo angle, but That's it. The colors gathered at Order, but I'm unable to see if they are just bunched up or swept back under the right arm. My guess would be bunched up with the left hands reaching across and holding the staffs. The reason the colors are bunched is because they are much too large for the staffs. The colors might be 4'4"x5'6" or even 4'x6' or possibly 5'x9' (neither latter dimension is authorized for the military) mounted on 8' staffs. 🔆Education is 🔑! . 🔹Read your manuals! For an international color guard of this sort, you make sure that you work with the best equipment, ensure your team is fully trained, and do your best to adhere to all relevant protocols. ⭐⭐⭐Excellent job, team! ❌All national colors must be at the same level. This is at the groundbreaking ceremony for a new intel complex at RAF Molesworth (UK). I drove from RAF Upper Heyford to Molesworth to pick up a couple pallets of out-of-date maps.
