M3gan - 4K Upgrade Okayyy… This I didn’t want to give in to. Universal ff-ed us collectors on two fronts here. And neither way of dealing with it is the answer. First they only released this on standard HD Blu Ray. No 4K and packaged in a simple plastic Amaray case. No choice if you want the movie on disc. Then six months later they announce a 4K. But not only that, they create a gorgeous movie themed steelbook that almost no collector can resist! If we didn’t buy the Blu Ray there might not have been a 4K. But now that we bought both we teach them this practice of forcing consumers to double-dip is OK and something they could repeat in the future. They should release a Blu Ray AND an UHD at the same time. Who has the answer to this conundrum? Hey Universal! If I buy a physical copy from a movie, I expect a thing that can withstand physical handling of your product. Not something that almost immediately disintegrates upon touch! If you mean to save the world from a bit of plastic, this is not the solution. It’s just because of releases like this that I buy EXTRA amaray cases, solid ones, to replace the junk you supply. Please save the environment and deliver product that doesn’t have to be partially discarded the moment it has left the store. [/End Rant] This was a surprisingly good movie with more depth than you first give it credit for. A lot of fun too! Nice! Image quality was actually great, despite the standard HD format, which is adequate servicing the purpose of the entertainment it provides. A 4K release would have been better but I can see why some lower budget movies won’t be allotted the extra honors. It’s a big win we get a Dolby Atmos track! Well done indeed! There’s not much bonus material, but because of how things are with high profile studio’s releasing content on physical media, I can’t complain about the three features in the package. When I saw this in theaters there were a lot of people glued to their phone instead of the screen, which was annoying as hell. Seeing this in the quiet comfort of my home theatre will undoubtedly give a better experience. I have yet to see the unrated, more gory edition, so I hope that will also provide with something new. Home Release Review: “M3GAN” from EoM contributor Justin Waldman. This new absurdity from studios that don’t release monster hits in 4K is getting a little out of hand. There are so many great horror movies that are getting just Blu-ray releases as the highest quality of release or not being released at all, and it really does boggle the mind. However, when the movies do get the physical treatment, hopefully they at least come with something interesting like features as incentive to pony up the cash to grab a physical copy instead of a digital. Reviewing M3gan: I jus watched this and it’s good. As for the storyline After Cady is in a accident that killed her parents she goes live with her auntie Gemma that has made a Artificial Intelligence life like M3gan and it becomes her friend and helps her but it starts to be too over protected wirh dangers consequences. As for the cast I liked Violet McGraw and Allison Williams and others good too. Overall it’s a good film full of action and tension. 🎬🇺🇲 M3GAN (2022) 🐗🐗 Bom! Olha vou ser bem sincero dizendo que eu fui preparado para o pior, para ver uma bomba, achei que seria horrível e não foi o que eu vi, eu gostei do filme. É inovador? Não. É assustador? Não. É um filme imperdível? Não. Mas ele também não é horrível não, desde que você vá assistir sem expectativa nenhuma e imagine um CHUCKY DA DISNEY, porque brutalidade não vai rolar nesse filme não. Dito isso vamos ao que interessa, a história é simples e tem um ou outro buraco aqui e ali que poderiam ter sido melhor trabalhado, eu quis ver o filme mais porque minha noiva me falou que a Amie Donald que interpreta a M3GAN fez todas as cenas, já ganhou vários prêmios em torneios de danças e que o único CGI usado foi no rosto dela, os movimentos foram todos ela fazendo, dou muito valor para essas coisas e isso me motivou a ver o filme, mas as cenas que ela pode demonstrar seu talento foram poucas, infelizmente. As atuações são boas, nada uauuu, quem manda bem mesmo são as duas "crianças", a de verdade e a boneca, elas estavam bem legais e o filme tem alguns bons momentos até e com final previsível. Dolls are horrific, there's little doubt about this. Technology is traumatizing. And Megan is at the intersection of the two, but if I were to choose one, it's more techno-horror. After a young girl loses her parents, she ends up with her aunt, a young tech wiz who happened to have developed an AI powered robo-doll. Instead of taking on the parental role she was supposed to, said aunt delegates to Megan, who turns out to be way more than she was conceived to be. It makes for a taut movie, with strong visuals, that works well on a several levels. Even the tech logic is bearable, until the final act, where it starts serving the plot more than logic. 🎥 #Cinema: 👧🏼 #M3gan A amizade evoluiu com as bonecas falantes... de #Emília à M3gan O filme conta a história de uma menina de 9 anos que perde os pais em um acidente trágico e vai morar com a tia que trabalha no desenvolvimento de brinquedos em uma grande empresa. Naquele momento, eles estão desenvolvendo uma boneca revolucionária que interage e vai criando laços com a criança com o passar do tempo. É então que a tia deixa essa versão beta da boneca com a sobrinha para uma avalição sincera da menina antes do lançamento de mercado. O que não esperavam é que M3gan começa a tomar decisões próprias e a defender de forma violenta a menina na qual a boneca é "amiga". O longa consegue criar um bom clima de tensão que gera uma expectativa do que está por vir pela frente e desenrola a narrativa com calma e sem pressão de entregar grandes cenas de terror desde o início, o que funciona legal, mas pode decepcionar quem espera terror desde o início. Achei uma história simples e já vista algumas vezes em outros filmes com pegadas semelhantes (um exemplo é a mais recente adaptação do Chucky em Brinquedo Assassino de 2019). Em resumo, podemos dizer que o filme é uma espécie de um grande episódio no estilo Black Mirror (por sinal, saudades dessa série). As atuações não são o grande destaque do filme, mas também não era o que esperávamos muito nesse tipo de produção, mas temos uma protagonista que está muito bem e tem carisma... isso é o que importa aqui. M3GAN • • • “A robotics engineer at a toy company builds a life-like doll that begins to take on a life of its own.” -IMDb • • • From the story to the visuals, this movie is a treat! Though simple in concept, James Wan and Aleka Cooper turned this into something I have and will continue to want to watch again. M3GAN serves as an awesome antagonist because as beautiful as she looks, she’s down right terrifying. There are some kills and light gore that were pretty shocking to watch (in the best way possible). Though pretty one note, Allison Williams fit the stoic game designer who’s barely fit to raise her niece role pretty well. Huge shout out to Amie Donald who did a perfect job portraying M3GAN’s physical body. Both the dancing and singing was just so silly that it amplifies the soon-following terrifying moments even more. This is why I love James Wan. • • • For those who haven’t kept up, this film was originally rated-R but was changed to PG-13 after the internet buzz that surrounded it. Though the goal of reaching a larger audience was met, you can feel the censorship in its off-screen kills. I very much look forward to seeing the director’s cut. Regardless of how much Cady’s been through, she quickly turns into this insufferable brat (y’all know I hate mal-mannered children) so I commend Jenna for being a much better parent than I ever could be. • • • Final Thoughts: The horror comedy we never knew we needed. From what we have been groomed to expect from horror movies released in January, this is a pleasant surprise. While far from a perfect movie, this movie has a firm understanding of the fundamental core that makes for a solid thriller. The execution of the story is patient, gradually building tension through the first two acts & making the third act payoff all the more intriguing. The primary narrative maintains a consistent focus on its themes, with the writing elements of given scenes relating to the message & character developments. Unfortunately, I can’t say this movie is exactly consistent in its approach. When this movie acts self-aware, it is an absolute blast. It plays into its own genre tropes & embraces its own ridiculousness. However, when this movie takes itself seriously it is just dull & awkward. The characters can be unlikable & frequently have irrational reactions & decision-making skills. Really, this movie just thrives when it tries to have fun. The design & mechanics of the titular character are certainly memorable & add to the experience. In terms of disturbing content, this movie certainly pushes boundaries of its PG-13 rating. If anything, I feel like this could have benefitted from a hard R rating by indulging in more graphic violence, taking a more Terrifier 2 approach overall. I know, I’m VERY LATE on this, but I FINALLY got to see M3GAN. I was genuinely surprised with how much I LOVED this movie, it was SO GOOD!!! Right from the opening scene, they let you know this isn’t a movie to be taken SUPER SERIOUSLY. I also LOVE the social commentary the film provides on A.I. and technology raising kids. VERY good acting all around. I can see M3GAN becoming an INSTANT horror icon.
