Rebel Moon - Part 2 The Scargiver sees the return of everyone from the first film and follows directly from where it left off. A voice over from Anthony Hopkins at the start explains what happened in the first film and fills in any gaps from between the two. One of my main criticisms of part one was how unfleshed out Kora was and that her team's motives for joining her were ambiguous at best. Much more exposition is given here which, although it seemed forced, made the characters feel more real. The first half of the film is a little dull with long scenes of harvesting wheat and turning it into grain. This is followed by long training sequences preparing the villagers for the arrival of the Mother world's (bad guys) dreadnought. I feel these sequences could have been cut down to smaller montages making the film feel less overbearing. However, once the action starts it is full on and this is where the film starts to comes into its own. Around 45 minutes are dedicated to the battle between the Motherworld troops and the villagers and other than speeding up a couple of slow motion sequences I wouldn't change much of it. The effects work well and I like Synder’s direction style, cutting between the various battle fronts keeping you on your toes. The film sets up for future installments while providing closure for this story arc. For me this is better than part one. It is shorter, still a tad too long but shorter nonetheless. There is more time spent getting to know the characters and the final half of the film is fast paced and well directed. I think you could watch this without watching the first and still take enjoyment from it. Rating: 3.5/5⭐ #rebelmoonpart2thescargiver #zacksnyder #spaceopera

Lesley manning This mockumentary that first aired on BBC 1 in 1992 on Halloween night, sees a news crew from BBC investigating a supposed haunted house and the family lives inside. Twist and turns around the crew because suspicious after certain events but the spirits don't rest and the results are shocking. A very well made and groundbreaking film in the genre. An earlier found footage film thats fun, spooky, and very entertaining. Recently released from Eureka Entertainment is Jet Li's 1996 action thriller Black Mask directed by Daniel Lee. There's a limited edition slipcase with new art. A limited edition booklet with new writing and then the two discs themselves. The set features three cuts of the film itself fully uncut Hong Kong version, International export version and The Taiwan Cut. Various different commentaries, new interviews and a tonne of audio/language options over the three versions too. This was a daft and fun film. Reviewing Hounded. I just watched this and it’s good. As for the storyline After a group of robbers are caught by the owners and set free in a field they realise they are the ones getting hunted and need to survive. As for the cast I liked Malachi Pullar-Latchman Hannah Traylen and Samantha Bond and others good too. Overall it’s a good film full of action tension and some twists. Muqabla (1942) was a pivotal film of Wadia Movietone. Directed by Nanabhai Bhatt under the name of Batuk Bhatt and Babubhai Mistry, the special effects genius of early cinema, Muqabla was a social film which had many elements of the stunt genre. This propelled JBH Wadia to make more socials with Nadia. Muqabla stages the story of twin sisters (both played by Nadia) who get separated at birth and lead contrasting lives of an ideal citizen and a criminal, respectively. This trope became extremely popular in the film Deewar (1975). In Muqabla, the filmmakers created a set which was transformable from a gambler's den to the drawing room of a house. Shah Rukh Khan's film Badshah (1999) also used this conversion of the set from gambling den to a drawing room. The film also had Nadia appear on the same screen as her twin sister through the split screen technique engineered by Babubhai Mistry and his team. In many ways, Muqabla was a pioneering and influential film in the history of Indian cinema. Today, Cinemaazi brings this important work of cinema back into the popular memory. Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, known as Dadasaheb Phalke, is celebrated as the father of Indian cinema, having made India’s first full-length feature, Raja Harishchandra (1913). His notable works include Mohini Bhasmasur (1913), Satyavan Savitri (1914), and Lanka Dahan (1917), the latter featuring cinema's first double role. Phalke's Shri Krishna Janma (1918) and Kaliya Mardan (1919) were also successful. Facing financial hurdles, he briefly retired but returned to direct Sant Namdeo (1922) and experimented with sound in Setubandhan (1932, re-released with sound in 1934). His final film was Gangavataran (1937). Phalke's pioneering work laid the foundation for Indian cinema, linking his filmmaking to the Swadeshi movement and impacting film aesthetics, especially in the mythological genre. No real news on plot or anything has been shared, kept tightly under wraps for now, according to variety. Personally, I've been a fan of 'SCOOBY DOO' since before I could walk. Hell, since before I could see properly haha. Scooby Doo and the gang have been there every step of the way and I am very passionate about the franchise. (Not so much how it's headed now..) with the exception of Velma and a few other adaptations. Whilst not for everyone, this film was a real pleasure to watch. The two leads in this film are, in my opinion, at the top of their game. I’ve seen each of them in other films but this one stood out to me because of their especially captivating performances. Taking place during the Covid-19 pandemic (when people around the world were instructed to shelter in place) ‘Together’ examines the rocky relationship of He and She as they navigate each other, the unfair nature of the world and grief. I especially liked the back and forth dialogue which seemed so organic. The characters consistently break the fourth wall as they dip in and out of politics, personal anecdotes and ethics. Life can often be messy and when art is self-aware enough to comment on this, I am very pleased. The monologues peppered throughout are some of my favorite moments in the film. The only note I would offer the director if we were having coffee would be that I wish the film explored more of the parenting aspects of the story. I feel like the relationship oft implied between the couple and their son was a missed opportunity. Fantastic film! Thinking that his dark stage piece will fit in nicely with the stories of the hotel they cast and crew manage to build up to opening night but like their predecessors before them the evil that resides has other plans. An interesting set up for this third I the series but I enjoyed it as much as the previous two chapters. It's scary, worth, and the story and lore build nicely. The ending is a little hokey but really doesn't take away from what came before it. Boy Kills world stars Bill Skarsgård, Jessica Rothe, Michelle Dockery, Famke Jansen and Brett Gelman. It is the feature directorial debut of Moritiz Mohr. (Little side note here both me and my wife recognised Michelle Dockery but couldn't place her. When the credits rolled and we saw the name I went “oh from The Hogfather” my wife said “oh from Downton Abbey” that should tell you all you need to know about our different tastes in TV and film. Thought I'd include this as we watched it on what would have been Terry Pratchett’s 76th birthday) Skarsgård plays Boy a deaf mute young man trained to be a killer by ‘the sharman’. The film is very quick to set up that Boy’s sister and mother were killed by a dictatorship family. Jansen plays the matriarch Hilda, with Dockery, Rothe and Gelman playing her siblings and children. We can hear Boy’s inner dialogue but he chooses to present it in the style of his favourite video game, a Street fighter esc arcade machine. After this setup we follow a fairly standard vengeance story. The action in the film is intense, graphic and gory with a running commentary provided by Boy's inner dialogue. The film’s plot is thin and there is little character development. But, it just about gets away with it as the whole cast commits fully to their roles. There is plenty of humour spread throughout the film, mainly down to Boy’s inner voice and the cheese grater scene puts Evil Dead Rise to shame. I've a feeling this film won't do brilliantly at the box office, I enjoyed it but it is a bit out there. However, I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't being referred to as a ‘cult classic’ in years to come. A very strong directorial debut for Mohr. Stephen Cognetti a small business group that runs a haunted house theme that changes venues each year stumbles upon an abandoned hotel in upstate New York that is supposed to be haunted. As they set up for their opening night tragedy strikes. When the footage of what happens that fateful night more is discovered about the hotel than was known. It is just an eerie, scary, and well done found footage film. I really enjoyed this one and the sequels as I watched them all this past weekend. I really don't know why I sat in watching these. In 1942, the Wadia brothers took different routes in their filmmaking journey due to creative differences. Homi Wadia founded Basant Pictures. He aimed to perpetuate the tradition of stunt films, while his brother Jamshed Wadia shifted towards socially relevant cinema. Despite their differing artistic visions, they maintained a strong collaborative relationship; Jamshed often managed screenplays and music for Homi's projects. Homi continued directing films for Wadia Movietone even after it was sold to V Shantaram in 1942. Interestingly, after this split, the first film from Wadia Movietone was Muqabla (1942), a one of a kind action and stunt film which introduced split frame editing to Indian cinema. And the first film of Basant Pictures was Mauj (1943). Afterwards, Basant Pictures adapted to changing audience preferences by producing mythological films, beginning with Shri Ram Bhakta Hanuman in 1948. Homi's flair for innovation was evident in the 1950s, particularly with Hatim Tai (1956), his first colour film, and the Tarzan-inspired Zimbo trilogy in 1958. Fearless Nadia, a constant in Homi's films, starred in her final stunt film Circus Queen in 1959. “I honestly thought it was a little interesting when the next Luca Guadagnino’s film was announced to be “Challengers”, a love triangle film between three tennis players. This is the man who has made such great, intricate films, like the Suspiria remake, Call Me By Your Name, and Bones and All. The trailers for this new Zendaya-led film looked quite good and I was excited to see it, but I was also both curious and worried that this wouldn’t live up the other films of Guadagnino’s. However, I was really impressed and delighted to see that Guadagnino creates another great film that shows this complex love triangle between three messy humans to near-perfection, with fantastic performances from Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist.
