Jours 5️⃣ - Circuit au nord de Londres Je chausse mes chaussures et, qu'importe la météo qui prévoit des aléas, j'attaque avec ma première étape : 📚 the British Museum et ses trésors. Parmi eux, il y a des partitions de musique (ici, celle écrite par Mozart lui-même), de paroles (comme celles des Beatles), les premiers livres sacrés de toutes les religions (ici, la Bible de Saint James), les cahiers de travaux d'il y a 2000 ans, les premiers livres Folio imprimant les pièces de Shakespeare, la proclamation d'Abraham Lincoln et j'en passe... 🧹 Un petit passage à King's Cross pour passer à côté de la voie 9 3/4 (où une queue terrible se pressait pour une photo payante). Il y a quelques années je ne crois pas qu'il y avait eu autant de monde et que ce soit payant. Ensuite directement encore plus au nord... ⛪️ Petit arrêt à la Saint Pancras Old Church qui date du 4e siècle, dont le patron est le martyr romain Pacracr de Rome. C'est l'un des plus vieux sites d'adoration chrétienne en Angleterre et où un certain J.C. Bach est enterré. Un petit cierge et une petite prière (tradition familiale) obligent. 📷 Puis on "grimpe", on "grimpe" sur Primrose Hill pour prendre de la hauteur sur Londres. Une belle vue panoramique se dévoile alors, au même moment, des giboulées éclatent dans le ciel et nous arrosent de grêle et nous grondent de tonnerre. Cela dure cinq minutes, juste assez pour nous mouiller et faire éclater les couleurs des environs. 🏡 On redescend alors jusqu'au Regent's Park. Je pense que c'est l'un de mes préférés à Londres. Au centre, c'est une imbrication de jardins : jardin anglais, jardin japonais... on change de pays, d'odeurs et de couleurs à chaque virage. The Ian Livingstone event @britishlibrary last night was brilliant - warm and generous and (in places) hilarious. So inspiring to hear someone who went on to become a world-class businessman talk honestly about their first steps and to hear him call it “living the dream” to “turn a hobby into the day job.” So often people create a success narrative based either entirely on luck or entirely on strategy. This was a true glimpse into the meeting of creativity and opportunity in 1970s London … and the willingness to spend six months living out of a Bedford van while he and Steve Jackson got their act together. “You probably couldn’t do it now,” he said. “There was so little competition we could fail without going out of business.” Truly inspiring. On a pu explorer une zone incroyable où on a pu voir des livres sacrés de tous les pays et toutes les religions. Et puis bien sûr on n’a pas coupé à faire un tour par la boutique où il y avait de belles pépites ! Cette bibliothèque est incroyable, si vous passez par Londres prévoyez bien 2/3 heures minimum pour ne rien louper. So it goes....browsing through the bewildering array of music on the @superfly.records website I got intrigued by the Syliphone record label, which started me digging.. Syliphone was a record label started in 1967 by the government of Guinea and funded by them as it engaged in an effort to revitalise the indigenous arts of the country after independence was gained in 1958..the government wanted to instill a sense of nationhood and so the concept of authenticite was introduced..this policy intended to explore the culture of the past for inspiration but integrate it into the country's future ..Syliphone became an important part of the distribution of the music of Guinea until 1984 when upon the death of Ahmed Sekou Toure, who was Guinea's first president the label was dissolved.. An extraordinary 82 albums plus 75 singles were released by Syliphone, and this particular atmospheric album containing 16 songs from a host of various performers...revel in each and every one of them.. There's more... Step forward Dr.Graeme Counsel, ethnomusicologist of Melbourne University, who oversaw during a period of 5 years the preservation and digitalisation of every Syliphone vinyl recording.. they were then incorporated into the Syliphone Archive which contains well over 7000 songs recorded in Guinea. In 2016 the Archive was made available through the British Library and their Endangered Archives Programme but currently you can't listen to it...because bizarrely the British Library suffered a cyber attack last November which is still playing havoc with their online services..so it goes.. #newmusic #whatimlisteningtonow #syliphone #superflyrecordsparis #thebritishlibrary #guinea

The British Library is one of the world’s largest libraries and the biggest library I’ve visited so far. The King’s Library collection in a glass tower in the middle of the library is spectacular. Not only does brian capture the likeness of each of the characters, but he manages to convey the mood and atmosphere of thra. The detailing on the landstriders face is just incredible every whisker and curve is captured. Brian had this to say on the behind the scenes featurette the world of the dark crystal The landstriders were designed really as a mode of transport, part of the brief was they had to run like the wind, this was a phrase that stuck in my mind and how do you design a creature that could move fast. We found that a man on stilts could cover a lot of ground with little effort, and the moment was magical there was our creature, the beginnings of it there was a creature that could run like the wind.
