Also arrived in the mail. 🙂 The 2024 35th anniversary edition of The Durutti Column’s 1989 masterpiece ‘Vini Reilly’. This Record Store Day edition is housed in the previously unseen original artwork by @8vo_octavo - intended for the 1889 release. (Although I have to say that I prefer the Bob Dylan-riffing artwork actually used on the 1989 release! See third image.) Produced by Stephen Street this is probably as close as The Durutti Column got to making a ‘mainstream’ album. Still sounds amazing today, 35 years later. Genius. #thedurutticolumn #vinireilly

𝓢𝓹𝓻𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓑𝓮𝓪𝓾𝓽𝔂 🌱 I’m a bit late for posting this as I’ve been a bit unwell & burnt-out, but here is the tracklist for the latest @radiobuenavida mix from a couple Sunday's back. A mix of spectral ambience, synthetic bird music, accordion drones, acoustic guitar & zither, wordless vocals, psychedelic folk, downcast post-punk instrumentals and new age synths. I went a bit mad and finished on an all-time ambient-breakbeat bliss out from Terre. I’ve wrestled with playing something by her for a long time because of her political stance on keeping things offline but she is an absolute hero of mine and I hope I did her justice (and it is mixed!). The Factory dump, Part 2. At the end of the movie 24 Hour Party People, Factory Records founder Tony Wilson (Steve Coogan) is having a conversation with God, who observes that "Vini Reilly is way overdue a revival." It's a reference that signifies the enduring esteem in which Wilson held Reilly. Reilly's band The Durutti Column was the first Factory signing but soon became virtually a solo project (plus drummer Bruce Mitchell) for Reilly's unique guitar stylings, which have attracted any number of admiring adjectives and are never less than exquisite. I was stoked to find these four gems among the Factory records that showed up recently at my local secondhand record store: 1-2. Vini Reilly, FACT 244 (1989). 3. The Return of The Durutti Column, Australian release FACOZ 1002 (FACT 14 in the UK) (1979). 4-6. Valuable Passages, FACT 164, double compilation LP (1986). 7-8. The Guitar and Other Machines, FACT 204 (1987). The Durutti Column contributed the track Our Lady of the Angels to the Factory compilation album Young Popular and Sexy (9-10), released in the US in 1987 as FACTUS 17, which also features early Happy Mondays, The Railway Children, A Certain Ratio, and vocalist Stanton Miranda. 'No New Order' is declared boldly on the back cover design. All these LP's, apart from The Return of The Durutti Column, are stamped or stickered as promotion only or sample records, and are in brilliant condition.
The Durutti Column. Lips That Would Kiss/Madeleine. Factory Benelux 12-inch, 45 rpm, Belgium. Two early 1980's instrumentals from guitarist and occasional vocalist Vini Reilly. Often underrated and overlooked, he'd become a much bigger entity before the 80's were through, releasing acclaimed albums of his own, and also from his work and association with ex-Smiths vocalist, Morrissey. His work with Vini would be some of the finest of both of their careers. Este increíble disco de THE DURUTTI COLUMN lo conocí en mayo del 2002, día lluvioso y luego de ir a ver a Mogwai en el teatro novedades, fui a la casa de una amiga (quien me invitó al concierto) y al distinguir tortuosamente el fervor del ruido de aquel día, puso este discazo para bajar la histeria y el zumbido propio del mal cuidado de nuestros oídos (usen tapones). Aquel día olvide a Mogwai (un justo olvido) y me quedé con Vini Reilly. Al año siguiente compré está copia en Deifer Records, tienda que moriría precisamente ese mismo año, mi sueldo de reponedor del Líder tuvo fruto y se plasmó en un primer prensaje de Factory Records que luego sería reproducido en una precaria tornamesa de Lo Prado, la cual el maestro chasquilla del barrio le pondría un extraño artefacto que funcionaba como preamp, gracias por eso. #thedurutticolumn #factoryrecords #vinyladdict #vinylcollection #vinyljunkie #vinylcommunity #recordcollection #recordcollector
