On Saturday, I was very lucky to fulfill a long-held wish by going to see @mousetraplondon the world famous play by #QueenOfCrime @officialagathachristie ❤ Based on Christie's radio play Three Blind Mice, which she wrote as a birthday gift for Queen Mary's 80th birthday in 1947, The Mousetrap opened in 1952. Now in its 72nd year, it is famous for being the World's longest running play, and it is still playing to packed audiences. St Martin's Theatre (which has housed the play since 1974, after it moved from The Ambassdors Theatre next door) is spectacular, and makes for a very intimate setting, so you can really feel the tension building during the 2hours 20mins of the performance. The set, which epitomises the Great Hall of a once grand house, now turned into The Monkswell Manor Guest House, is impressive. It was the perfect backdrop for the wonderful cast who pulled out all the period-piece stops to immerse you in Christie's 1950s murder-mystery, playing the kind of roles that are typical of her excellent novels. As a 'partner in crime' my lips are sealed about the secrets of the play, but I can tell you that it was the most amazing experience. I was held spell-bound, fooled by all the devious red-herrings and gasped along with the entire audience when the truth was finally revealled... it was also much funnier than I was expecting. Christie's ability to imbue humour into her writing is often underestimated, in my opinion! I loved it, and have finally been able to pick up my 70th anniversary edition of the play, which I have been afraid to read for fear of spoilers. Along with the script, it is full of fascinating detail about the play, as is the programme, which you really must get if you go to see the show, as they stamp it to record the number of the performance you will be seeing... number 29563 in this case! For fellow trivia-hounds, you will find lots in the book and programme to amuse you too. I think my favourite fun fact might be that Christie was inspired to write Three Bilnd Mice by a very real, and quite shocking case, which must have made her birthday gift something of a surprise to Ivor-Novello-musical-loving Queen Mary! 😁

This is an ex-library book from the US, which I found in my small town in Norfolk, UK. (A mystery in itself!) Spider's Web is an Agatha Christie play which premiered in 1954. This novel was written by Charles Osborne adapted from the play. I can't say I loved this. I think what worked for the play didn't translate well into a book. The plot seemed very far-fetched and the characters were ridiculous, which probably made it very entertaining to watch but not to read. Trip down memory lane 🎭 Danes se gre pa za malce drugačno objavo, ki predstavlja kar pomembno prelomnico v najinem kreativnem ustvarjanju, saj je bil to takorekoč najin prvi skupni projekt - oblikovanje in izdelava scenografije za gledališko predstavo Mišolovka, avtorice Agathe Christie. (Če še mogoče nisva omenila, naj povem, da sva oba že več let aktivna člana ljubiteljske gledališke skupine @gledalisce.mozirsko.) Od nekdaj sem bila navdušena nad gledališčem. Bolj kot sama predstava me je zanimalo kako potekajo stvari v ozadju. Kaj se dogaja v backstagu, kaj je potrebno, da predstava sploh zaživi, kakšen je proces izdelave, kakšen “kaos” se odvija v zakolisju med živo predstavo … S predstavo Mišolovka sem imela prvič priložnost to izkusiti tudi na svoji koži in bilo je vse in še več 🤩 Vsi smo si želeli na oder postaviti nekaj novega, nekaj kar gledalci že dolgo niso videli. Želeli smo se odmakniti od minimalizma, ki je bil prisoten pri mnogih predstavah in mislim, da nam je to uspelo 🤗 Težko je opisati, kako zadovoljujoč občutek je, ko se zavesa dvigne in iz dvorane zaslišiš vzklike “uauuu”. 🥹 Pri sami izdelavi scene smo morala biti kar kreativni in iznajdljivi, saj je bil budget precej okrnjen, kot je to v navadi pri ljubiteljskih projektih. Polovico pohištva in dodatkov smo našla na Bolhi, ostalo pa smo si uspeli sposoditi pri pozameznikih, za kar smo jim še danes hvaležni. Pri izdelavi scene nama je pomagal tudi @jacksy_s55x, ki je tudi avtor timelapse videa, ki si ga v celoti lahko ogledate na youtubu (link v bio). Morava se pohvaliti, da smo za omenjeno predstavo prejela posebno priznanje regijskega selektorja za scenografijo na 54. Happy Sunday, #bookishpeople! How has your weekend been? Ours got off to a great start on Friday when we saw the touring play of Agatha Christie’s #AndThenThereWereNone in the beautiful @theatreroyalbath1805. Having recently reread Christie’s book of how ten strangers are lured to a solitary mansion off the coast of Devon, where they discover the true reason for their presence on the island and one by one begin to die, I was keen to see how this best-selling crime novel of all time would be adapted for the stage. A simple set features a sheer, voile curtain dividing the stage, which brings a ghostly and atmospheric feeling to the production, and allows for effective delineation of the indoor and outdoor action and creating scenes from the past. It also becomes more disordered as the tension ratchets and the action descends into chaos. Director, Lucy Bailey has made some adaptations to update the play for a modern world, but otherwise faithfully tells the tale of this popular #classiccrimenovel, which features some great performances from Sophie Walter as Vera Claythorne and David Yelland as Judge Wargrave. David is an esteemed actor with an enviable CV. Yet he is as real and as down to Earth as one can be. A gent, a pro. A support. A friend. And a great guitarist to boot. Today however, I had a wet but wonderful afternoon in London seeing Witness for the Prosecution - set up as a courtroom trial it's a great play with wonderful actors and in a fabulous setting at County Hall. 🎭 And Then There Were None 🎭 QOTD: do you enjoy seeing theater productions or have any favorite books that have been turned into plays? 🎭 Yesterday, my husband and I traveled almost 2 hours to go see this play as part of our 5th year anniversary celebration. And Then There Were None was one of my favorite books to teach middle school students and Agatha Christie is a favorite author who was beyond brilliant with unseen twists in her superbly crafted murder mysteries! 🎭 I had strong feeling of nostalgia for my days in theater productions and my absolute favorite experience working on The Mousetrap when I played the magnificent part of Ms. Casewell 🧐 while my acting days were not many, they are very very fondly remembered (despite a recurring dream where I need to remember all my lines from The Mousetrap since I’m back in a makeshift production that I’ve promised I could do without any rehearsals for the past 17 years 😂). 🎭 Hard to believe October is almost over! As we open our 2023/24 season with world the renowned Agatha Christie’s “And Then There Were None” we have decided to delve a little deeper into the writers history and background... Many of our visitors and fellow thespians have heard of the term “Method Acting” but have you ever heard of “Method Writing?” Us neither! But it would seem the famous writer decided to adopt this technique when she put herself in her very own missing persons case in December 1926. Sparking one of the biggest organised searches for a missing person, 36-year-old Agatha Christie made the decision to take the upheaval of her personal life into her own hands. Following the death of her mother, discovering her husbands affair and filing for divorce, Christie decided to flee in the night. Her car was found several miles away from her home in Guildford, Surrey, abandoned by the edge of a chalk pit. It was assumed suicide as detectives scoured through documentation to her secretary and husband in the days before she vanished with over 1,000 policemen, search dogs and 15,000 volunteers searching for a body. Eventually, 11 days later, a female under the name of Teresa Neele was discovered to be staying at a spa resort in Harrogate. Despite adopting the surname of her husbands lover, she was recognised by the staff and guests as the one and only Agatha Christie. The police were notified and the case closed. It's easy to understand how Christie was able to create some of the worlds most famous crime novels the world has seen when she was able to adopt that much creative flair into our own life. 🪦review🪦 Witness For The Prosecution by Agatha Christie ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Queen of Crime has done it again!! I wasn’t sure how Christie was going to pull out all the stops with such a short script (I’m used to her novels being 300+ pages) but my jaw hit the floor on those last few pages. The killer was obvious but the motive not so much. Some of the characters (*cough* you know who you are *cough*) are so easy to hate but so brilliant at the same time. I need to see Witness for the Prosecution on stage - someone get me front row seats please 🔪
