It’s been a year since my course “Create to Communicate” started at @gleneiraadultlearning who allowed me to bring my ideas and my artistic expression to the centre . Allowing me to do and fully be me! This has been years in the making using art, and movement throughout my teaching in ESL classes over the last 16 years… sounds a lot . Create to Communicate allows people from diverse backgrounds to explore and express themselves , building their communication skills through all mediums , painting , poetry, drawing, collage, clay, photography and movement. What makes it even more special is we build community as we learn making it even more meaningful and joyful. I’m so grateful that I’m facilitating this course that is so close to my heart. Today was the last day of the April cultivation series @elora_mill It was such a pleasure once again to share my passion in pyrography. So much exploration and creativity shared by each individual. Everyone's creations were unique and I'm excited that I could share this interesting medium with so many people. I love pyrography because you can create marks that are full of texture and depth with a unique tactile experience that effects all the senses. There is no other medium like it and I love that! Set up in Texas is pretty comfy. Hopscotching between two new paintings. Lately—- 1.) Love my work wife Ren- she tattoos while I paint or she’ll paint with me, sometimes we’ll talk sometimes we don’t but it’s nice side by side. Sometimes her two kids paint with us and we have real fun painting parties. 2.) still running and teaching myself to actually friggin stretch a little before these days 3.) there are about 5 foster dogs in the backyard that i go kennel by kennel to and get cuddles and kisses from at the end of the day. 4.) I’ve been very solitary most of my life and relied so much on romantic partners and my art. I’m finally realizing how unfair and limiting it has been to them / me/ experiencing life in its grandeur / my art life 🤓Culture messed us up on that one or maybe I just had it all wrong 😑 . 5.) Community is important and vital, even a small one, and friends that feel like family and actually letting people get to know you off the canvas too. 📢 NEW ORGANISATION ANNOUNCEMENT ✨ We've been focusing recently on. introducing the many amazing artists joining the collective. But we think it's about time to start introducing the many organisations we're partnering with. And to buck convention were going to start with our latest organisation @artmovesfife ArtMovesFife looks to strengthen ways in which local artists can have an impact on their environment and communities though collective journeys and shared actions. Set up by two Fife-based artists Gillian MacFarland @gillianadairmcf (also a Collective artist) and Kate Downie developed ideas around collective journeys, creating a drawing network of pathways and creative actions across Fife (not just the scenic bits), placing local artists at the centre of environmental change. These local journeys will become the test bed for discussion, ideas and art-making for positive environmental change through creative engagement. It places local artists at the centre of their communities as drivers for environmental improvement, which in turn will open new routes for walks, climate discussion and art actions involving the wider Fife community. We're really excited to be working with @artmovesfife and the exciting projects we'll be collaborating on. As an organisation we want to be continously building these relationship of collaboration. Spring is just around the corner, and so is the final flower design for the Wildflowers of Wisconsin crochet mural! Our last flower is the Swamp Milkweed and its pretty pinks are so cheery! In August 2023, I had the privilege of producing and launching the Show Your WEST-SIDE Art Prize and Exhibition. This was an adventure of passion, community, and art, drawing on a simple (and powerful!) idea… What if I created an art event that’s deeply personal and accessible to all artists in our community, regardless of their fame or experience? I dreamt of sparking a change in the conventional art exhibition scene. That dream quickly became a reality. With 10 amazing prizes donated from local businesses (totalling over $5000!) who are already on board for our next event, we were able to offer all kinds of beautiful experiences to our local community of artists and creatives. The response from the community? There were over 210 artists who were involved in this exhibition, which was free to enter and no commissions were taken on the art sales (unheard of in our industry!). There were also over 400 people attending the opening night! It’s been nothing short of heartwarming. Complete strangers believed in the idea, bringing support, patience, and willingness along with them on this incredible journey. I’m forever grateful. Sadly, Show Your WESTSIDE 2024 was due to run again this year but we have suddenly lost our venue. So, until I can find another similar exhibition space, we won't be able to have this wonderful community art exhibition this year. Footscray, I love you. I’m not going anywhere. If not this year, we have next. I have more art events for the community in the works too.. Through this work, Pinkston explores new ways of activating these empty spaces that she views as metaphors of the silences that exist in history. Last week, AART Artist Myra Eastman opened her studio and invited artists and friends to learn traditional Ukrainian Pysanka painting techniques to create unique, beautiful dyed eggs. Two years ago AART hosted a similar fundraiser in the gallery which raised money to help refugees in Ukraine from the Russian war. Proceeds from the is year’s sale of the eggs will benefit walk the Walk USA, a volunteer group dedicated to building community and engaging voters in the US.
